Ok first I am not going to be like some of you and bitch about how big it is. Second, I am now not buying a PS3 and buying a DSi LL. Third I am buying a keyboard for thing and using it as a laptop. I both hate and love Nintendo. I'm sorry but I have to see what MarioKart, Mario 64 look like on this wonderous beauty.
@Mit: Don't forget "worse at the same distance" seeing how it sports the same number of pixels as a DS Lite despite offering 93% more space to work with. In other words, it's just sorta asking to be made blatantly aware of things that smaller screens obscure while enjoying increased blockiness for general gameplay. Have fun with kart, bigd.
@Anemone: I'll be plenty fine with the extra blockiness, but I don't think there will be much of a difference with the perception of blockiness. The DSi screen is bigger and brighter than that of the DSlite and it doesn't seem any blockier, in fact, I am much more satisfied playing my games on the larger DSi screens than I am on the DSlite or the Phat. In summery, I doubt there will be much of a noticeable difference. :)
@Cochese: Now with moxie.: That's nice. I'm sure you're the sort who doesn't bother with anything other than composite and S-video hookups for your HDTV as well... I mean who gives a flying tear about resolution in relation to size and distance anyway; it's not like it's something anyone would notice anyway.
@Anemone: Actually, I use HDMI on both my 360 and PS3. I'm just not so jaded as to care much about a slight resolution dip. Did you stop playing all of your old games once you got a 360 or PS3? All of my consoles from the NES on up get a regular work out. And if you are asking about resolution, I just ran through the original Pokemon Red, even traded and got them all... again. I did it on a GBA with the screen stretched. Don't sound so damn jaded. Graphics are a nice benefit of each successive generation, but if the game is good, a better looking game won't render it obsolete. Is this your first console generation, by any chance?
@excel_excel: I hear they're working on a new DSi, and are going to call it the DSidontcareaboutthelackofagbas...! :p
I kid, I kid.
I just slightly miss the GBA slot. But only when I need some of those ruby or sapphire pokemon. :/ it's a good thing I still have a DSlite and a Phat...!
Weeell, at least they made the speakers look more pleasing to the eye. I didn't like the DSi's speakers, due to the fact that they were just two stereo speaker holes in the top. These look much more pleasing to the eye, at least.
@(Starman) Starman: They seem to be more like the DS Lite's. It also has the glossy exterior of the DS Lite (although it looks a little less prone to fingerprints?).
It's got the rounded edges too. It really looks like a mega sized DS Lite with cameras and no GBA slot O_o Kind of wish the DSi looked like that actually.
I'm probably going to get one for my mom. She's been using my DS and complains that some things are hard to see, and I want my DS back, so this seems perfect
At first, I was wondering "Why?" but that thing is freaking huge, so I can see why. For people with big hands or not so hot eyesight, this would be a boon.
@WhatTheFrag: Except for the fact that Eee PCs run all flavours of Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. The best that the Nintendo DS can come to that is running console Linux or Mac OS 8.
@DemanRisu: well of course that's there. I meant in a passing glance. Not like you're going to look at what someone's doing with their device when you're walking past them.
This is a great bundle. I like how they are giving movie vouchers instead of packaging a specific game. It's better to give the customer the option to pick what they want, while at the same time getting them to check out PSN. Quite smart actually.
When the Go was announced I was all for it. But I've decided that I'd rather have the option to have UMD's and DL, so I'm actually going tomorrow to pick up the Dissidia pack (along with a new PS3 slim). I would wait for this pack, but it's a bit of a wait, and the system is the same, and I wanted both games anyway, so I'll just stick with the Dissidia pack.
I'm all for the Go. I think it's great to offer this new version along with the 3000, specifically for those who are ready to make a jump to DL only. It's a sharp looking system, and surely a sign of where Sony will go when the actual PSP2 is launched.
Hmm, I was worried they were going to do a PSPGo bundle for GT, but my PSPPhat is getting a little old and i was looking at getting a 300 when/if it drops in price when the Go launches. But now I think I might just get this, looks like a great idea.
@BubbleF**kingBuddy: It still boggles my mind that people think that they are, or that the Go is a completely new and different system.
It's another option. Sony isn't competing with itself, devs aren't making "Go only" games, You don't have to upgrade, nor do people have to worry about UMD's not being made.
Sony has been very clear from the very beginning as to what they are doing. I fail to see what all the confusion is.
@Archaotic: I was thinking that myself, what's the point in hyping and releasing the Go, only to have little to no bundles of new, popular games coming alongside its release?
@Strife Fox †: They seem to be trying to downplay the Go and let the "hardcore" pick it up for now, while they use PSP-3000 hardware bundles to placate retailers like GameStop.
Ironically, the few GameStops I've visited in recent weeks have all removed PSP stock entirely from the walls and shunted it onto little end-cap shelves. GameStop HATES the PSP.
@Archaotic: I'm not buying a digital distribution only console. I prefer to actually own my games. With DD you do not own your games but instead you own the rights to play them. If a company decides to take one of their products off of the Playstation Network because it's no longer profitable and your copy becomes corrupted or deleted you are S.O.L because you'll never get that game again.
@Archaotic: Good way to clear out stock. UMDs are getting phased out, so the 3000 models will too eventually. The PSPgo is akin to the PS3 slim: the future.
@Archaotic: Probably because they realize no one with half a brain is going to spend $250 for a system with which 90-100% of their existing games are incompatible.
Not to mention $250 is waaaaaayyy too much to ask for slimed down five-year-old hardware. Remember, the original PSP launched at that price in early '05 in the US - almost half a decade ago.
Thinking about it some more, even the Wii is starting to become a stretch at $250, and that's a full fledged home console, not a portable.
@Ca$h (aka cold hard): As someone looking at buying their first PSP, the Go is really interesting. I couldn't care less about incompatibility since I have no library, I love the idea of having all of my games in one ultra sleek little device.
Unfortunately, unless I buy it in the first 10 days for the GT offer it really does become too expensive.
It's either right at launch or the next price cut.
@mangs: That's putting a lot of assumption on the idea that a lot of gamers and consumers are willing to give up physical media.
The PS3 slim is a $100 cheaper PS3 with all the same features, a great value. The PSPGo is an extremely overpriced gadget that has less physical hardware to offer and comes with a controversial media interface. Hardly comparable.
@Archaotic: It's weird, but I think the Go had this reverse effect of causing a lot of people who were on the fence to buy a 3000. I know that's what happened to me. I wanted a PSP once I heard about the Persona and Lunar remakes, then they announced the Go, and I was like 'Well, I like physical media. if I want to have a PSP that has a UMD, I better buy one now.'
@Numanoid: But you will miss out on alot of great used UMD's until Sony explains how they will transfer to the Go. Before long flights I usually pickup great games for $10 which still go for $20 -$25 as downloads if they're available (Killzone, Metal Gear PO, Field Commander etc.) Somehow Luminares used still goes for $20.
@SeattleTed is proud to like Robert Zimmerman: To be honest I'd rather have an all-in solution than deal with UMDs, even if I manage to find copies that are cheaper.
And yes, I'm still waiting for Sony's damned solution.
@Witzbold: I'd be in line to get one if there was official support for transferring UMD games, and if my windshield didn't suddenly develop a footlong crack. So much for durable PPC autoglass.
That's it? A tiny little "GT" on the front? The first time this rather-important-to-Sony franchise comes to the portable and the best bundle they could do was this?
It's almost as bad as the mediocre US version of the Dissidia bundle.
