The animations seem a bit stiff in the trailer I saw, especially compared to the smoothness of SoT. If a pre-rendered trailer on a next-gen system can't match the ones on my freaking Gamecube...
Maybe they can make the Prince fall asleep at the end of "Forgotten Sands", and then make another game next year (set between WW and TTT) in which the Prince wakes up from a shallow, frustrating, tedious nightmare.
I don't know what to think of this game. Personally I enjoyed the last Prince of Persia game and would love to see it continue. Yet now we are receiving a game that goes back to a concluded storyline from the last generation in which the Prince had a brother who had his own kingdom in trouble?
Somehow I feel like this is the movie game in disguise, that it's suppose to tie-in to the last storyline, which is suppose to be the plot of the movie trilogy. The font they use for the pre-order case has the same Bold Arial that you see on the movie posters, and I can't help and feel like there is a connection.
After all, the first movie is The Sands of Time and the movie is debuting in May 28, 2010. When is this game coming out?
They have already announced that the release of this game is intended to coincide with the movie release. You aren't in anyway wrong, they just aren't trying to hide it. They've only gone back to the previous timeline because of the movie. And in terms of business it makes perfect sense. Even if they don't share a plot; the movie and game will both provide marketing for each other.
@Atomsk88: IGN: Does the game tie into the movie in any way?
Michael McIntyre: The Forgotten Sands is a new chapter in our own universe, which we created with the original Sands of Time. The Forgotten Sands is another chapter in the SOT series, and is not tied to the movie in any way (other than being set in the same overall universe). We're extremely excited that, thanks to the movie, so many people are going to be exposed to this world which we love, and that such top-caliber talent is associated with it.
@Eseph: True, but at the same time it appears to me as though Ubisoft is trying to tip-toe its way around stating that, yes, this is a movie game. Pretty much every gamer knows the reputation movie games have, and so by relating this new game with a beloved story arc of the Prince of Persia series, it's giving Ubisoft a chance to at least get this game on shelves and peak interest. Problem is, it's peaking interest and letting on misguided connotations.
It may not directly tie to the movie, but it's still a game with the intention to relate to the movie. Next thing you know, they'll have another pre-sequel for Warrior Within and Two Thrones.
@dreamfall: Alright, but now I wonder why Ubi couldn't have been satisfied with the trilogy for what it is and left all the games of the arc alone for people who are interested to seek and play.
Was it necessary to make an entirely new game to be placed in a secondary position to provide some starting point to newcomers?
@Atomsk88: It's pretty simple. It's not a movie game, but they are capitalizing on the movie release by having a game with the same overall theme. Making the second entry in the new PoP wouldn't make sense if it had NOTHING to do with the movie, so they are revisiting the old locales to confuse unknowing buyers into purchasing their title.
@POWRDUPshawn: Nah, I understand why they're doing it, but at the same time you have to wonder if making an entirely new game was the correct method to bring people, and their money, into the SoT trilogy.
I know a sequel to the 2008 game wouldn't make sense, but quite frankly I want to at least hear something about there being a sequel instead of a cash-in for May 2010.
I liked Sands of Time and Two Thrones a lot more than Prince of Nathan Drake, myself, so I'm not as burned up about this as everybody else seems to be.
We'll see how it turns out, but I probably won't play it because I'll likely still be working on FFXIII and Yakuza 3 when it comes out.
@Archaotic: the only PoP game i have ever played was the last one and i want to see the story continue (yes i bought the DLC). the old ones never got attention plus IMO the graphics were crap.
@shaunmcilroy: nope. look i personally didn't like the games i am not discrediting them at all. hell with those i would not have got the last PoP. i just would rather the new PoP than the older ones (talking characters and story)
@Ezhno: So if you see a game, and the graphics aren't good you just don't play it?
That's a pretty retarded way of thinking, some of the best games ever didn't have good graphics for its time, it is correct for me to asume that you are the kind of person that would play a shitty game if it comes in HD?
Plus, in 2003 when sands of time was released, the graphics were pretty amazing.
@Ezhno: the SoT trilogy had talking characters and story. The voice acting was actually well done; well enough that people were upset when they changed the Prince's VA in Warrior Within, so they brought him back for Two Thrones.
There have been 3 "sets" of Prince:
Prince of Persia, PoP2: Sword and the Flame ?, PoP 3D.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Warrior Within, Two Thrones
Prince of Persia (reboot, next gen title).
The Sands of Time's story line is actually a great deal more complicated than the reboot's. With all the time travel, hoping around between games, 7 year gap in between game 1 and 2, and creating alternate timelines, it was a bit tricky to keep track of.
@2pado: no far from the truth hell i can still to this day play the first Megaman Legends (nowhere near HD or PS2) and love it. but at that time all the gametrailer/gameplay never intrested me. and i have rented them (well the first one) and tryed but just didn't catch on. hell i never like the Ratch and clank but just like PoP i give the studio all kinds of credit cause i would not have gotten a game like Resistance or uncharted from Naughty dog (god i hated Crash) or Infamous from the sly developer (hated sly also) even though those great games just didn't like them.
Maybe not a memory wipe, but perhaps whatever power he gains is only temporary. But think about it. This is a game about time control/travel. There's no reason the storyline couldn't involve him moving forward in time from Sands of Time, then having to go back in time to where Warrior Within would have started.
@Witzbold: Oh wow, "message the team was trying to convey." Yeah, talk about a poor job on that front of things. May as well had a PSA at the start of the game stating, "Hey, so we don't like how our military is becoming a corporate owned machine, but you play as some of those PMC guys anyways. Ok, bye now."
@Friedhamster: It's not much worse than Modern Warfare 2. "Yeah, war is bad. Terrorism is bad. Sometimes people even die! An- oh man FUCKING SWEET SNOWMOBILE CHASE GANGSTA STYLE, SHIT BRAH I GOTS TWO FUCKIN SHOTGUNS UP INS"
But anyway, the gun customization was...weird, but you have to admit the upgrades on the revolver made it look kind of awesome.
Not as awesome as an honest to god Mateba (which was a shitty revolver but at least it looked neat).
I'm just crossing my fingers that Ao2T40D (that's right) has the PP-2000 russian smg. I've yet to see it in a shooter, as airsoft or anywhere besides Vladimir Putin's hand.
I'm one of those people who cannot wait for this game. The first one was mind-blowing or super original, but i loved the upgrade system and the loose feel of the cover, as opposed to Gears' stickyness.
The best part, obviously was the co-op. Me and my friend have beaten every difficulty at least 4 times over. Every gun, all upgrades- we're out of things to do with the game! But we still play. Started locally, and now I'm stationed cross country, so Total Fistbump Destruction (We agree, it should be named this) is another way of connecting me to home.
@tornbhc007: I'm with you, man. I can't wait for this game. I'm a fan of the first one. I don't like any games that have that RTS-send-your-troops-out type of gameplay, but this was the closest thing to that that I actually enjoyed. Plus, the aircraft carrier campaign is one of my all-time favorites!
@5erge: @Gerard Delatour: The levels were pretty awkward, but I love the Aircraft Carrier too. They just kept coming in from everywhere. One I just couldn't stand was China. Too many lame back to back's with cheap, cheating rpg's.
If I had to sum up Tekken 6 in one word, it would be "cheap"
I think the age of fighting games are coming to a close. Street Fighter IV and now Tekken 6 have made cheap tactics and exploits a legitimate way to fight. Not cool. I don't care how good it looks, I've witnessed and used too many cheap ground spikes, wall rape juggles and exploits to rate Tekken 6 high.
Funny, from top Tekken players in the Sunnyvale CA area (where Namco and Capcom are, by the way), I hear that Tekken 6 is actually one of the most balanced of the series.
I was reading someone's rant on how Sagat was cheap in SF4. I don't think it's the age of fighting games coming to a close, more like that fighting games have become so popular again that people are forced to become as competitive as possible, which means using the most effective strategies and tactics available. And regarding exploits: The original "combo" system in Street Fighter 2 was actually a glitch; the designers didn't intend for players to cancel normal moves into special attacks.

@NeoChaos: @Arlieth: Yeah, there were always exploits in fighting games going back to Street Fighter. But have you seen some of the higher level combos in Tekken 6? Start a combo and end it with a launcher, continue the combo while the opponent is in the air, end that with a ground spike, continue the combo while the player is on the ground and if he happens to hit a wall, you can continue the combo with a wall rape finisher.
Don't give me that nonsense that it's always been that way because it hasn't. A lot of what I mentioned you can't stop once you get hit with it. You can't counter it. You have to hope that your opponent screws up the combo so you have a chance to make a come back. What I saw in Tekken 6 was annoying. Pass. I'll stick with Virtua Fighter 5. It's still the best to me. For every move, grab, technique in the game there's a counter. Not like alot of the shite I saw in Tekken 6
