I have a feeling that this is going to fail, and it's going to fail hard. It's marketing to a crowd that has made no pretenses of wanting to use motion controls and is capitalizing on a concept, although improving it in the process, that another system already has a stranglehold on the market for.

Sony is forgetting that the Wii is not successful because of the motion controls but the fact that the controls were novel and innovative for it's time. It had an incredible amount of hype, great marketing and goodwill going for it. All of which Sony does not have.

Don't get me wrong, this might be fantastic, it might be a whole lot of fun, but I just don't see it reaching the amount of success they are aiming for.

I understand that these are just patents and it's still early, but this, to me at least, is a sign that Sony has no idea what they want to do with the thing, besides getting in on some Nintendo monies.

@NeVeRMoRe666: I get the feeling, like PSPgo, it was never meant to be a success. A sloppy first generation device to get out a few of the major kinks before unveiling the product that's built from the ground up. You'll notice that PS3 has become Sony's little experiment box ranging from 3D gaming to augmented reality amongst other things.

It's sort of that, "holy fuck is PS4 going to be amazing or what?"

I respectfully disagree. I think the three consoles right now are looking at three completely different implementations of motion control. Nintendo's implementation is solid, but their game library isn't. Microsoft's implementation is generating a lot of buzz, but without having actual buttons, I think they're more lost than anyone else. Between these two extremes, I think Sony is in a position to grab the middle ground: They seem to have the best ideas of both Nintendo and Microsoft's implementations.

I still think it's risky: I imagine that, as a controller add-on, it will be about as successful as the DK Bongos for the Gamecube (far less successful than the PSone controller with dual joysticks). But in terms of having a technical concept that works, I think Sony has some really solid ideas. The question is, will they actually carry through?

And as a frustrated Wii owner, will I care if they have an idea that's good but doesn't live up to its full potential?

I think Sony would do well to look into Tim's articles. They're imitating all the wrong things about the wii.

    Sigh.

The Orb on the end allows you to let go without fear of it falling too far in. It's a safety feature.

    Sony,

Usually when you see a bandwagon roll on by, it is too late to board it.

Any more peripherals and we will all be drowning in a sea of plastic.

I wonder if we'll need to open a new landfill to dump all of these things?

The main picture of the article lead me to belive that Sony were patenting a range of sleek, modernist taps!

I'm trying to think of some sort of hilarious quip to make here, but there's just so much that can be said. It's a little overwhelming. I'm sure someone else can sort this out. I'll take a back seat on being funny today (she says like she's ever been funny.)

But these sure are some interesting shapes.

In reply to Quantum Theory Goes Multiplatform
As a fan of the Quantum Theory series, I am deeply disappointed that Tecmo has decided to betray the Sony PlayStation brand by making the latest Quantum Theory game available for the Xbox 360. This has been a tremendously impressive looking release that will no doubt be toned down for the Xbox 360 masses. I have hereby deleted all my Quantum Theory trailers and changed my Quantum Theory wallpaper to Haze as that is an exclusive and thus a much better game. This decision strikes me as a terrible blow against the Sony PlayStation 3, and the brand in general, which I am deftly defending like an idiot. I hope to see this decision taken back, and wish for any other Quantum Theory fans to back me on this, as the series deserves more.

@sudo rm reality.exe: Not to harp on your position, but just because it's an exclusive doesn't automatically make it a good game. It's all opinion, but I didn't enjoy Haze.
Also, here's a Sony PS3 exclusive. Is this a good game?

@sudo rm reality.exe: Haze? lol i was taking this post so seriously for a second there.

It is always sad to lose a good exclusive but now that it is in the same sentence as Haze i guess it can no longer qualify as a "Good" exclusive.

@gamerking128: That's pretty much my point. This game looks forgettable as all get out and it held onto the "exclusive" crutch as the only thing making it somewhat stand out. (though saying it stands out at all is something of a misconception) My "protest" was entirely sarcasm.

@Connoisseur: Well, I seriously doubt this would have been a good exclusive in the first place. If you want my honest opinion? The one truthful thing in the above post is that Haze looks better than Quantum Theory to me, and that's pretty much a testament to how "much" I care about this game.

Sorry, Tecmo, but try harder next time.
