Man, I guess those are universal.
We are not alone.

Sorry, don't mean to spoil anything... just trying to remember...

I saw it in my Assassin's Creed II case. Figured they were trying to save some money. I'm okay with that. It's a recession. Cutting costs is okay. If it just happens make sense ecologically as well as economically, that's fine, too.

Also, how much of the population is this? Is this something the publisher really needs to worry about? I know there are people in Japan who play first person shooters, but I always thought there were a lot less there than in the West.

So can someone tell me if the characters speakJapanese with Scottish/American/Russian accents then?
Or is it just your normal fluent Japanese (which is what it sounds like in the video but just wanted to ask anyways)?

Actually if you want to know what that would sound like just go ask folks who are learning Japanese to speak Japanese and there you go.
Back to the main topic at hand usually the "tone" of the character is just determined by the voice of the VA usually. Unless its a comedy they wont really bother trying to add character to it.

So short answer: No.
Think about that next time you watch a dub with a British/Scottish/American sounding character. Whatever that may mean to the English audience was invented largely by whoever localized the game (FF 12 comes to mind as a great example, since so much emphasis was placed on localization and a number of English dialects were used).

I suppose the argument for wanting to have English voices in this game is the same reason that American movies are subtitled (not dubbed) in Japanese theaters. Many Japanese games, released in Japan have English voice overs (often so-so or just... ugh) to replicate that "American movie blockbuster" feel or perhaps it would fit better with the setting, like the clip above for a game that never got to see the light of day in the US...

Plus, some games just don't work in other languages.
MGS would be shit in Japanese I think, and this is another one. Sometimes we should just suck it up and read subtitles.
And honestly, if your complaining about reading subtitles, learn to read faster, I can read them and still see pictures just fine.

The problem is that you dont understand Japanese enough to realize the quality of the work that went into the product so you just brush it off by calling it shit.

Thank you. The JPN MGS VA has always been superior in my book (despite the fact that my Japanese isn't that strong).
Otsuka is a perfect fit for the character particularly that being a smoker in real life gives his voice the edge.
Let's not even start on Raiden...

English just makes it more immersive to me. It's like if I watch a Sony Chiba movie, and it's a dub, it feels stupid and weird and I prefer it much more in Japanese. And I like David Hayter.
Also, care to explain why the screenshot is funny :D

I think the image is funny because it's some CoD character about to shoot a Square-Enix store? S-E, being the Japanese publisher of MW2.
