<![CDATA[Kotaku: propaganda]]> http://tags.kotaku.com/assets/base/img/thumbs140x140/kotaku.com.png <![CDATA[Kotaku: propaganda]]> http://kotaku.com/tag/propaganda http://kotaku.com/tag/propaganda <![CDATA[Armada of the Damned Is All About Choices]]> I briefly sat down with Alex Peters, Propaganda's game director for Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned, who stressed the importance of choice in Disney's upcoming action role-playing game.

The game is an action RPG on an epic scale. How epic? Alex name checks games like Oblivion, Dragon Age, and Fable, saying that Armada of the Damned definitely fell on that end of the scale, through not quite as action-oriented as Lionhead's game. The game of course features a great deal of sea combat as well, allowing the player to sail from island to island, building their crew and taking on other ships in dynamic combat. It all comes down to choices.

It's fundamentally about choices. The choices you make and decisions you take change the direction the story is going...the outcome of the story, your character. You can be the pirate you want to be...you can do something else...create your own adventure. It affects the world around you; the economy and the way people react to you.

While there wasn't much more to show other than a trailer they've not ready to release and these screens, Propaganda's enthusiasm for the project is certainly heartening. The Pirates of the Caribbean is a very intriguing IP, and with the game set fifteen years before the first movie they won't have to worry about rushing the title to coincide with a movie release.

They've still got a good year and a half worth of work ahead of them, so check out the first screenshots, and we'll wait until we see some game play before we condemn the game to Davy Jones' locker.

<![CDATA[Turok - Awakening The Giants Part Four]]> Part four of Touchstone's five-part making of series Turok: Awakening The Giants is here, and finally they touch on the portion of the game I was most interested in - the voice actors. After a brief bit about level design, we get to see actors like Ron Perlman, Donnie Wahlberg, and Stargate's Christopher Judge take a turn at lending their pipes to to game's heroes and villains. I don't think I will ever get used to seeing Judge without that golden Goa'uld forehead dealie. They seem to have managed to wrangle up every actor with a deep, rumbly voice ever, so expect your bass to get a real workout once Turok launches next week.]]> http://kotaku.com/index.php?op=postcommentfeed&postId=350583&view=rss&microfeed=true <![CDATA[Turok - Awakening The Giants Part III]]> Touchstone's Turok making-of series Awakening the Giants continues this week with a look at creating the game's antagonists. The team at Propaganda lay out how the artificial intelligence was developed for both the savage, bloodthirsty dinosaurs and the cunning, strategically thinking human enemies. After a bit of speculation last week I dug around a little bit to discover that it is indeed Electric Playground's Victor Lucas - one of the nicest guys in the industry incidentally - narrating the series. Score one for my super-powered auditory senses! In this first segment the developers grant insight into the reasoning and inspiration behind the resuscitation and re-imagining of the five-year dead franchise while giving a brief glimpse at what to expect as the series continues. It's a highly polished documentary complete with professional narration and background music, and you can tell a lot of work went into it. Here's something you may not know about Eliza: I love dinosaurs. Wee Eliza, or Weeliza, grew up in a household where a dinocentric novel and its sequels were being brewed (the now-ancient Charon's Ark), and the obsession has not loosened ever since.

So why haven't I played Turok? I mean, ever. It's one of these series that I just never stay on top of, and by the time I think about them, the latest iteration is already out of date. I figure graphics are important, here. But the next-gen Turok is on the way, and here's the rendered trailer, featuring a massive t-rex that makes me giddy.

Waiting on actual gameplay footage to be able to estimate suckage.

<![CDATA[World War 2 Propaganda Remixed for BF:1942]]>

Thanks to Cathode Tan for pointing out this great gallery of vintage World War II posters remixed with Battlefield 1942.

Warning: If you're the type of person who gets offended by sixty-five year old relics of racial insensitivity, this is not the gallery for you! A couple of the posters being remixed are quite racist, featuring the squinty, buck-toothed stereotype of 'Tojo' favored by the Warner Brothers cartoons of that era. If you can deal with that by putting it in the context of a massive world-wide conflagration decades ago that resulted in the loss of millions of lives, you're probably safe to click. Otherwise, you should probably move on.

On the other hand, if you find yourself rolling around in the floor in an expanding puddle of urine anytime you read the word 'smacktard', this gallery is going to leave you a desiccated husk of a gamer by the end of the day.
