Tony Hawk Ride is a good example of how the industry is jumping the gun, with this whole Motion control thing. I actually think Motion control is a step backwards. We're taking something that's easy and relaxing and turning into physical work.

Even assuming no government or corporate spies cared to watch you, there have been over a decade of trojans that will let the controller watch you through a webcam or listen through a mic if they are attached. That is probably why we eventually started seeing more webcams with activity lights on the front of them - to tell when the device is active.
To use a system like this for control, it would have to be a standalone unit without storage media, or network connectivity beyond sending command signals to the computer.

They'll jam all attempts from the NSA super satellites connected to an AI core to eavesdrop on you.

It sounds crazy because it is, but that doesn't make it less true... this looks like a lot of links, but it's about 30 seconds' Googling. :/

They want to make genetically engineered mosquitoes to deliver vaccines because they loooooooooooooove them.

Please, Gates... take your "philanthropy" and stuff it.

I don't think it would really be beneficial to tell him to scrap it. What else is he going to do with all that cash.
He could buy several luxury yuaghts and such, but that'd just be selfish.

Damn that philanthropist and his warm heart!

HOW COOL WOULD IT BE TO HAVE MOSQUITOES INJECT VACCINES. How is that not cool. I hadn't even heard of it until you put the link there - now I'm going to go out and donate all my money towards this.

I sure hope you've done your part in saving at least 100 orphans for the day. Otherwise, all you are is just one more meaningless commenter on the internet, while Gates is actually out there doing things to benefit the world.
So, what have you done lately that's so great? We'll love to hear it.

I would think that the free operation of humanity would be something that Linux fanboys would get behind.

I'll do something great for the world as soon as I make my first $100 million...
11/30/09
You don't need $100 million to do something great for the world. In fact, all you have to do is get off Kotaku and go out and volunteer. If not that, then don't complain and don't tell someone who is doing more for the world than you to "stuff it." If you're complaining that it's easy for him to be a philanthropist because he has that money, you may be right, but that doesn't mean you can't start now.
To be downplaying the work he has done is not only hypocritical but idiotic.

After all, if you want an accurate time line and life of the net, Ghost in the Shell from the manga to now has been pretty scarily accurate from events outside of the net and computing to events related to the net and computing.
As prosthetic and prominence of the internet advances the Ghost in the Shell style world becomes far more likely than just about any other.

It's hard to believe the original series started in 1989 isn't it? Now just as predicted we have neuron cultures interfacing with chips and controlling machines like fighter jet simulators...
