Comedy Central should start throwing in cautions that in order to enjoy the majority of the episodes of South Park, you have to actually have some intelligence. The people who are hating the newer episodes probably have no idea what last nights episode is actually about, and just sat and waited for some sort of butt-sex joke.
@Jim Wade: Aye, South Park has evolved so much since the days of Cartman with a satellite in his ass. It's barely the same show anymore. (And that's a good thing. Classic SP is hilarious, but new SP has quite a lot to say, while still being just as funny.)
Mostly because, as was mentioned, the interesting use of the story of Jesus to portray the economic situation in the US.
Also; because of that last little bit of fun-poking at how, for some reason, people have started to see Obama as some kind of savior to the free world rather then just one more politician.
I mean... honestly now... when people start considering him winning the presidency as a more important event then the moon landing, you know hero-worship has gone a little far.
@SketchyIndividual: "I mean... honestly now... when people start considering him winning the presidency as a more important event then the moon landing,"
Everyone knows that was faked. They just had a bunch of guys in a studio pretending to innaugurate Obama. You can tell by the shadows!
Jesus was betrayed for far less, 30 pieces of silver was what the life of a servant(slave) was worth in the bible, and in the old testemant, it was the price you had to pay if someone's livestock was killed and it was your fault.
no price is worth betraying the son of God, an innocent man.
@Adnoz: Well technically, Chinatown Wars is part of the GTA IV saga. The Liberty City they use in Chinatown Wars is an exact replica of the one used in GTA IV, minus Alderney. But considering that Alderney is in Alderney State, and Liberty City is in Liberty State, it makes a certain sense to leave it out, especially considering size limitations of a DS cart. However, Algonquin, Dukes, Bohan and Broker are all in the game, which technically makes it part of the GTA IV saga.
But also when you think about it, that is how Rockstar has handled the GTA series since the very first GTA. London, 1969 and London, 1961 were both part of the original GTA saga. And more contemporary, Vice City, San Andreas, Liberty City Stories, and Vice City Stories at Rockstar, are all considered part of the GTA III saga. So technically, whether they know it or not, the writers at South Park were correct in referring to Chinatown Wars as GTA IV.
Wow, just goes to show how South Park is becoming more and more for intelligent audiences and moving away from people who just like to hear cartoons cuss and do stupid things.
Last night's episode was so chock full of metaphors and irony that I had to watch it twice just to catch most of em. The episode was absolutely brilliant and did an amazing job of insulting stupid people regarding the economy and religious people at the same time. Only Matt & Trey are brilliant enough to be able to pull something like that off.
I guess South Park has outgrown a lot of its audience. I agree with ggp, this episode is Emmy nomination worthy.
I agree. If South Park was just fart jokes and shock humor, there's no way they'd be on their 13th year. Matt and Trey are masters of satire and use their characters so well. Yeah, sometimes they get whimsical and just do really stupid shows (which are also funny), but over the last few years, they've just been getting better and better. My only complaint is that they sometimes get too preachy, but they're pretty self aware and will do something whimsical afterward.

I just pictured Rockstar handing over a stack of cash with each mention...and a little ticker going in the corner to make sure they didn't miss one.

Maybe betraying kyle, yeah, but not Jesus.
