And they're giving you just such an opportunity now.

Entering to win is simplicity itself:

Edit: Well, not when a sloppy job by yours truly fucks everything up. This version originally failed to include the link to the Official Brutal Legend site. That coupled with instruction No. 2 led a lot of people to believe that by commenting here, they were entering. Sorry, you're not. We have nothing to do with this contest. You need to go here to enter. My deepest apologies. - OSG

1) Go to the window, look outside, and verify that you are in the United States. If you're at a friend's house, look at your driver's license and make sure it has a U.S. address. If you're still not certain, call your parents and ask where you live.

2) Post a comment on this thread on the official Brütal Legend site. Note: You'll have to register a free account. That's how they'll find you.

3) That's it.

Electronic Arts will notify the lucky headbanger after one is randomly selected. For a closer look at the goods, check out this gallery.

Win an Eddie Riggs Figure from BRUTAL!

PlayStation.Blog announced the contest yesterday. Here's the deal - you need to play the Uncharted 2 Online Multiplayer Demo between now and Monday at 11:59 p.m. U.S. Pacific time. The drawing will be done at random - it's not based on time spent gaming or any other stats. You're entered by joining any open match from the demo's online lobby. Sony's giving away 10 per day, so that's 30 in all. Winning PSN IDs will be notified by email between Oct. 15 and Oct. 30 posted on PlayStation.Blog on Oct. 19.

And what do they win, Don Pardo? Well the Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter edition includes a replica of the Phurba Dagger, featured in the game, with a display stand; an art book and collector case autographed by developer Naughty Dog, "plus a host of downloads." <![CDATA[The Millionth Stardock Impulse User Wins A Gaming PC]]> Nearly a million users have signed up for Stardock's Impulse digital download program, and they're celebrating by giving out a $4,000 gaming PC to some fresh off the internet newcomer.

Stardock's Impulse is essentially their answer to Steam, featuring games from Atari, THQ, 2k, Capcom, Epic, and more, along with applications and utilities to help make your PC gaming experience run a bit smoother. Now in its 9th month of operation, Impulse is quickly approaching its one millionth user, expecting to be just behind Steam by the time the service reaches its first anniversary.

"By Impulse's first birthday, we expect Impulse to be the 2nd largest digital distributor of PC games and to have nearly all of the major PC game publishers on board," said (Stardock president and CEO Brad)Wardell.

To celebrate, Stardock is giving away a $4,000 gaming PC to the one millionth user, a reward process I never really understood. Sure, it helps drive new people to the service, but what of the nearly one million already signed up? What do they get? Gratitude is nice and all, but it doesn't run Crysis. I checked.

<![CDATA[Grand Theft Auto IV Elite Case is the New Black]]> Reader Mike sends us word that he was the lucky winner of the Grand Theft Auto IV Elite Sweepstakes Console nine months or so ago. And his prize just arrived.

The ebony black Xbox 360 Elite sports a slick GTA IV logo, which at first glance may look like a sticker but is actually embossed on the case underneath a clear shell.

<![CDATA[The Halo 3 Shwag Winner Is...]]>

Last month we sent you scrambling for Fahey's words of wisdom in a hunt for the answers to our latest trivia contest. The winner, we said, would get a Master Chief sack filled to the brim with Halo 3 goodies, from an Xbox 360 console to controllers, the game and other knick-knacks.

This morning we sorted through the winning answers and randomly selected one lucky person to win the sack o' Halo goodness. Hit the jump for the luck winner.

The lucky Kotakuite and Halo 3 shwag winner gets:
Halo 3-themed Xbox 360
Two Halo 3-themed McFarlane Xbox 360 controllers
A Halo 3-themed wireless headset
A Legendary Edition of Halo 3
A Master Chief duffel bag
Master Chief dog tags
3200 Microsoft points
Three unused Halo 3 Slurpee cups
A coupon for a free Slurpee
A limited edition bottle of Halo 3 Game Fuel
A Halo 3 Game Fuel T-Shirt
An Xbox 360 notepad
A first aid kit
Rations

And the winner is Andrea Bolner of Indiana. Andrea has already been contacted and emailed us mailing details, so there's no chance we'll have to pick a new winner. Sorry guys. If it helps we'll be giving out some more World in Conflict goodies, including a skateboard, as well as a Legendary edition of Halo 3 in the coming days/week.

Yeah, that probably doesn't help, but don't worry there will be just as many fun giveaways in the coming months.

<![CDATA[World In Conflict Game Off - Results]]> So the World In Conflict Game Off challenge has come and gone, and if you look closely in the smoking ruins of a small northwestern town you might catch a glimpse of mine and Crecente's battered bodies laying in pieces along a mile of crater-pitted roadway. Two rounds were played, one with Kotaku representing the US and the other representing mother Russia, and in both instances devs Vextor and Emma completely decimated our pitiful team in minutes. The third round we swapped partners, with Vextor and I facing Crecente and Emma. Showing what a difference a good partner makes, this time the game lasted until the timer ran out, and when the smoke cleared my team stood triumphant, waving the American flag while enjoying some hot dogs and apple pie. Remember, just because we were pathetic losers doesn't mean you have to be. Keep an eye posted for the aforementioned cool swag that we'll be giving away in the near future!

<![CDATA[The World in Conflict Game Off]]>

The Massive folks have challenged Team Kotaku to a little game-off in World in Conflict this week. They will be pitting two of the guys who helped create the game against myself and Fahey, in other words we are going to have not just our asses, but just about all of our body parts handed to us.

In exchange for this online pummeling we've agreed to undertake, Massive is going to send us videos of our digital disgrace for posting on the site and whether we win or not we take home some prizes. Not prizes for us, no, all we get is the public humiliation, the prizes will be for you, dear readers.

The Massive folks are going to hand over several copies of World in Conflict, some sort of autographed World in Conflict swag and some uber prize, perhaps a World in Conflict Skateboard or track jacket. I'm hoping to get you guys the board, because I've seen it and it kicks ass. No promises yet on what exactly we'll be getting for you, but it's going to be super cool.

Check back Friday evening to see just how horrible Fahey and I were whooped.

<![CDATA[Ellen Hands Out 360s]]>

It seems like video games are becoming the give-away du jour for talk shows nowadays. The latest is Ellen DeGeneres, who gave away a Wii before it launched. This time around she's handing out Xbox 360 gift packs. While it's quasi-interesting to know celebs are giving games to their audience, this particular piece of news does have some direct value to you.

Ellen decided to also give out 25 of the gift packs to people who register to win through her site.

The pack includes an Xbox 360, a one-year script to Live, Viva Pinata, Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged, Cars, Madden NFL 07 and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. The winners will also get an Audiovox XM receiver, a Ticketmaster gift card and the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition movie.box set.

With just 25 winners, the odds are fairly bad, but let us know if you win.

<![CDATA[Hey! That Ain't Candy In That SNK Capsule!!]]>

Prize games. Put in your money and win nothing. Hit any arcade in Japan, and find 'em by the boatload. Typical prizes: Sweets and stuffed animals. Though, some of these machines could be considered misleading. Take this SNK Candy Capsule. Hit the jump for the NSFW closer inspection.

Lean closer....

DSCF5809.JPG

THAT IS NOT CANDY. Rather, the capsules are filled with pieces of paper that say whether the adult video prize is given away or not. And from the looks of it, I think we've had some winners.

P.S. And no, "eye candy" doesn't count.

<![CDATA[DQ Offers Worst Ever Prize Replacement]]>

Reader Shannon writes to tell us that Dairy Queen is holding a contest this week involving scratch-off cards. Among the rather spectacular list of prizes is a Playstation 3 (which DQ inexplicably values at $400). But if you read the fine print you see that Dairy Queen reserves the right to substitute the Cell-injected, blu-ray-playing, WiFi-enabled next-gen console with a Playstation 2 if stock for the new console isn't plentiful enough at the time the winning claim is made.

Wow, that would so suck. You win a Playstation 3, but when you rip open the box you see an old, slim friend waiting for you inside. The good news is that the contest ends on April 30, 2007, so I'd think PS3 stock wouldn't be an issue by then.

I did some digging and found the online site to play the contest, but you need to either go buy a Blizzard to get a code or write away for a code before you can try.

<![CDATA[Daily Comments Winner]]> Commenter PulpAffliction wins yesterday's contest with his comments on our story about the New York Times Agenda Gaming Piece.

Articles such as this one always strike me as a bit of a fallacy. I mean, honestly, how are outsiders (*cough* Ebert *cough*) supposed to come to the conclusion that games can be art when even gamers can't agree. Of course games can tackle any subject matter that any other medium can, the difference is whether or not game designers are willing to sacrifice profits for their vision. It's exactly the same with film. If a director makes a hard hitting documentary (and his or her name is not Michael Moore) you can bet they wont be on even the top 40 grossing films of the week. It's sad but true, and it's just as true with games.

Don't forget to post away today for your chance to win. I will be randomly selecting a post tonight, as I will every day this month, and then deciding which comment about the post was the funniest, most insightful or interesting and hand out a prize to the poster.
Today's prize is a Battlefield 2 T-shirt and a copy of Amped 3 for the Xbox 360. Prizes cannot be exchanged.

<![CDATA[Daily Comments Winner]]> Commenter Intellectualdiot wins yesterday's contest with his comments on our story about a Toys R Us mole confirming the PGR3 360 Pack.

I was interested in this when it supposedly going to be priced similarly to the Premium bundle, and should that turn out to be the case, there remains a great likelyhood that I'll pick on of these up. Even though I'm willing to guess that 1,250 of points won't last me terribly long. Of course if this is merely a core bundle with all the limitations that carries in addition to PGR3 and the other assorted goodies, I'm back out of the X360 fold again. I didn't want the retard pack last Winter, and I sure as hell won't want it when the Wii rolls onto store shelves with a considerably lower price and a handful of potential AAA titles. Maybe I'm just more discerning than most (I doubt that), but I'd reason that Microsoft could either make this brilliant or idiotic based upon the small decisions they make with regards to content. It was a bundle that proded me into purchasing the original Xbox, and I wouldn't mind repeating history.

<![CDATA[Daily Comments Winner]]> Commenter munkee wins yesterday's contest with his comments on our article about the CDC denying their involvement with a slew of anti-gaming ads.

So, let me get this straight, the CDC want's to try to motivate the American youth to get off their fat lazy asses and to go outside and run, jump, skip, frollic, etc... As a gamer, I'm the first to agree with them, we all should give our thumbs a rest and discover a 3D world that no computer can ever simulate 100%. You want real life physics? News flash, that stuff's been around FOREVER! Sorry guys, but I say keep the Ads, if anything we should be supporting them, not getting pissed off at them. Give your thumbs a rest doesn't mean stop playing games, it means don't play games 100% of the time! We can be gamers and have an active lifestyle at the same time. No, that's not it, We can be gamers and should have an active lifestyle at the same time. That way we can be gamers longer :) So... um... yeah... that is all :)

<![CDATA[Daily Comments Winner]]> Commenter Nick Kostalas wins yesterday's contest with his comments on our review of cancer-themed Serious Game, "Re-Mission".

this is sort of difficult— as is clear— but ultimately i don't think they should have made the game if it sucks this much. i had burkitt's leukemia, and although i appreciate the concept (but does anyone not?), i would be pretty pissed if someone handed me this game during treatment. why the fuck would anyone over about ten years want to play this? it doesn't make sense— give me a pamphlet and a harmonica instead and i'll feel a hell of a lot better. they should have just re-skinned tetris attacks or something with little T-cells and leukocytes. then anyone would be able to enjoy the game, it would cost less, and you could waste more time. and i know it wasn't their intent, but with the presentation as it is, the game has a feeling of sharp backhanded condescension. there's a lot of this in childhood cancer services, but least of all would i want it in a videogame. you know what helped me? grand theft auto III. and it's not because it took my mind off of the treatment; nothing really can. it's because it was a fun game, and it was what i would have been doing anyway.

<![CDATA[Daily Comments Winner]]> Commenter Weatherman wins yesterday's contest with his comments on our post about the Nintendo World Store Etched Ds.

I suppose in 20 years this will show up on eBay and someone at Kotaku will blog it (they'll have to, because by that time Gawker will be owned by C|Net which will be owned by Gannett, which will be owned by Tessier-Ashpool which will be owned by General Electric which will be owned by Haliburton which will be owned by eBay) and it'll seem cool, and we'll get all nostalgic and bid on it for crazy money. Until then, I'm sure it'll just sit in the sock drawer while the owner plays with his DS Lite.

<![CDATA[Daily Comments Winner]]> Commenter Vabor wins yesterday's contest with his analysis of Take-Two's 10-k filing, inspired by our Thompson's Secret Letter to Take-Two Shareholder post.

Here's one problem: "The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 amends Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act to require reporting persons - directors and executive officers (including family members and certain affiliated entities) as well as 10 percent or more stockholders - to report stock transactions occurring on or after August 29, 2002 on Form 4 within two business days."

Bush's signed the act above into law in 2002 and the Rockstar Directors and Executive Officers aren't following the new timelines for reporting stock transactions. Also, as you can see below, the SEA of 1934 is referenced as the benchmark, but it's really the Sarbanes-Oxley 2002 act they should have been following. (See below)...that's probably one of things Jack Thompson has up his ass...

" Section 16(a) Beneficial Ownership Reporting Compliance. Based solely on a
review of Forms 3, 4 and 5 furnished to us with respect to our most recent
fiscal year, we believe that all reporting persons currently required to file
reports under Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 filed such
reports on a timely basis, except that Mr. Flug did not file two Forms 4 (two
transactions) on a timely basis; Mr. Winters did not file one Form 4 (one
transaction) on a timely basis; Paul Eibeler did not file three Forms 4 (three
transactions) on a timely basis; and Oliver Grace did not file two Forms 4 (five
transactions) on a timely basis."
