Sony's "Fat Princess" Makes Internet Upset

Bloggers are angry! Feminist bloggers! They're not up in arms about the unrealistic physical proportions of digital women or on-the-go near pedophilia this time, they're upset about the concept of Sony's PlayStation Network release Fat Princess. The cutesy 32-player hack and slash sees a rotund royal being overfed by the enemy, making her rescue and transport across the battlefield difficult.

Site Feminist Gamer writes that the Darkstar Industries developed title may "reinforce nasty stereotypes about women and the obese," calling the mechanic of excessively feeding the portly, titular princess "fat-bashing."

Princess Debut Charms Our Dancing Shoes Off

Back at E3, we had a chance to check out some of the titles Natsume is publishing in the US. Titles like Rune Factory 2 for the DS. It's of course the second Rune Factory game, which is best explained as Harvest Moon meets fantasyland. The game's going to be out this fall, and here's something I didn't know about it: Rune Factory 2 has over 9,000 words of text. That's a lot of text! For those not into the fantasy element, the DS and the Wii will both see new Harvest Moon games. Bring on the farming and marrying!

Fat Princess, On PSN, Could Be Our GOTS

It's not often a product description like this comes along, so I'm going to let it speak for itself:

Frantic and fun, Fat Princess pits two hordes of players against each other in comic medieval battle royale. Your goal is to rescue your beloved princess from the enemy dungeon. There’s a catch though: your adversary has been stuffing her with food to fatten her up and it’s going to take most of your army working together to carry her back across the battlefield.

Yes. It's 16v16, online carnage, as you fight over - and drag - a morbidly obese woman across the battlefield. There's 10 maps, five character classes, and one writer's captured heart.

Natsume's Princess Debut Contains Dancing, Romancing, Dresses

Harvest Moon publisher Natsume has a new IP - it's called Princess Debut, a "rhythm and adventure game for girls" coming to Nintendo DS in the fall.

It sounds a little bit rhythm-action, a little bit dating sim (not the hentai kind of dating sim, of course). Players become a princess and have 30 days to master dance moves and woo one of six princes to be their partner, over the course of a branching, event-driven storyline before the dance portion begins.

There are 20 different outfits, 14 endings and 18 different musical styles like Waltz, Latin, Dance, Tango and Ballroom. Natsume knows its audience (e.g, me) — I'm generally not into "games for girls" per se, but multiple endings, tons of unlockables, romance and rhythm gameplay? Seriously, I'm so there.

Admit it, guys — this sounds kind of cool to you, too, right? Right?!

Smash Bros. Dojo: Stop Sending Us Panties

Masahiro Sakurai is not amused! Apparently someone has been fostering an unnatural fascination with getting a peek at Princess Peach and Zelda's panties, sending them in to the Dojo on a regular enough basis that Sakurai needed a disclaimer at the bottom of the picture page.

Please understand that snapshots depicting inappropriate content or containing inappropriate comments will not be eligible for selection.

To this point, I've received a great number of screenshots that focus on peeking at the undergarments of certain Brawl combatants. So let me just say it again—shots like these will never be posted to the Dojo or sent out to users via the Smash Service.

I am ashamed of you all. Completely and utterly disappointed. You don't send upskirt shots to Masahiro Sakurai! He has access to the 3D models and can see their panties anytime he wants. You send them to Kotaku, c/o Brian Ashcraft. Get with the program, people!

Midna Cosplay Takes The Cosplay Cake

The 2007 Anime Expo at Long Beach was held last year. Why, then, has it taken until now for this amazing Midna cosplay photo to end up on my desk? You know what, forget it, I don't want to hear your pathetic excuses. Do not fail me again, internet. Click through for a full-size version. More »

Wii Now Loading Homebrew From SD Cards (Unofficially)

Team Twiizers, the software enthusiasts behind the Twilight Hack (a Wii exploit stemming from Twilight Princess) have announced that their hardware-modless software can now load homebrew apps from the SD card slot in your Wii. Just imagine a world in which the Nintendo Wii could play your old SNES roms...oh how that would Change Things For The Better.

Today Show Gets Around To Its "Old People Like Wii" Story

NBC's news and entertainment program Today has decided to get around to airing its late take on the Old People Like Playing Wii phenomenon that swept the nation at the end of 2006. In its "Forever Young" segment, which features old folks who are capable of jogging and smiling, it reveals that the aged quite enjoy virtual bowling between bouts of not being visited by their grandchildren. Hey old people! Stop snatching up all the Wiis! Some of us still haven't played Super Mario Galaxy thanks to your Wii Sports obsession!

I'm actually quite surprised that folks confined to retirement homes and elder care facilities aren't finding the orderly-killing simulation in Manhunt 2 more appealing than Wii bowling. Oh God, I'm so horribly depressed.

The Verve Lead Singer Buying Up Twilight Princess

Instead of buying a sandwich, The Verve lead singer Richard Ashcroft was spotted in London's Uxbridge Road purchasing Twilight Princess for his Wii. Little late, huh? Don't blame Ashcroft. He's been making a new Verve album and doing drugs and other stuff.

This Is It, No More Princess Peach Upskirts After This

It's still Kotaku After Dark, right? Good. Got this very riqué post right under the wire, whew. Last week, we posted the Princess Peach freeze frame to end all Peach freeze frames. Now, we've got the exciting follow up: hi-res screenshots! This should enforce the idea that Nintendo doesn't only put great attention to details — even in lady's underoo lace. Hit the jump for the embarrassing images.

Possibly NSFW, depending on where you work!

Wii Hacked?

We're not so surprised that the Wii has been apparently cracked, but rather, that it's taken so long. Still! The folks over at forum TehSkeen has figured out an exploit to modify a saved game from Twilight Princess, crash the machine and have been able to run a few lines of their own code. It's not even necessary to "mod" the Wii console to run this exploit. Don't freak yet, as it's only possible to run four lines of code so far. From the TehSkeen: More »

Marathon Zelda Gamers at it Again

You may remember last weekend when I posted about the guys at cameronbanga.com who tried to make it through four Zelda games in 48 hours. Due to some glitches, they weren't able to squeeze in all four games but still managed to raise over $1200 for Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity. So, in an attempt to make up what they couldn't finish, the boys are at it again but this time they have given themselves eleven hours to complete Twilight Princess. The marathon gaming session will again benefit Child's Play and will be the first in a series of charity driven weekend gaming sessions. Good luck on your mission guys, you are benefiting a great charity.

Princess Peach Makes Forbes Fictional 15

Speaking of Women in Gaming, Princess Peach has made the pages of financial magazine and must-have waiting room reading material for any company wishing to be taken seriously Forbes, who recently posted their Fictional 15, which ranks fictional characters in terms of wealth. Peach comes in at number 15, trailing Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne, and Ming the Merciless, to name a few. Her net worth is listed at $1.3 billion, mainly due to "terms of divorce from hero plumber Mario awarded her a fortune in gold coins." I didn't even know they had been married! Probably one of those Vegas things. The coins start flowing, someone breaks out the fire flower, and the next thing you know - boom! You're waking up next to a guy who smells like Italian food and sewage. Poor Peach. It must give her great comfort knowing she could buy and sell any one of us.

The Princess Bride Game, Heartbreak In Motion

The "video game" adaptation of Rob Reiner's 1987 classic romantic adventure comedy The Princess Bride isn't actually a game, by the official site's own admission. It's merely an "animated online entertainment experience." It's the Nutrasweet of adventure gaming, a sickeningly chemical hint of a game that looks to add nothing to the film, merely acting as a crudely animated, gratingly voice acted, casual targeted impostor.

It's coming to Windows, Mac OSX and Linux, but don't expect much for your $17. The only amusement I've received from this monstrosity so far is the misspelling of the title on the official site, who erroneously refer to it as The Princess Bridge Game. Hahaha! *sobs*

Week in Games: A Welcome Break Edition

All good things must come to an end, and this week apparently marks the end of the amazing flood of great titles we've had over the last month. This week's offerings (with a few exceptions) are a bit lackluster which is probably fine by most people's bank accounts. Due to a long trip, I'll be concentrating on some overdue handheld action and I'm plenty thankful that there is nothing this week that is just begging to be purchased.

Shadowgrounds Survivor (PC)
Fight against aliens for control of the planet.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies (DS)

Adult Final Fantasy, Chun-Li Cutie, Pac-Man Bra

Hrm. Sure, that kinda looks like Yuna from Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. But that costume is "Fantasy Heroine" from costume site 3wishes, which also liberally borrows from Capcom's Chun-Li for its "Kung Fu Cutie" outfit. Isn't this kinda stuff copyrighted? Not surprising as this is the same retailer responsible for the naughty Princess Peach outfit as well as the Pac-Man bra. There was a Pac-Man bra? Geez, nobody tells me anything! All that after the jump. More »
