I'd like the movie to be great, but these shots of Gyllenhal just look silly to me. Maybe it's the costume, maybe he's a poor fit for the character, or both.

    And yes I realize I'm judging a book by it's cover. #princeofpersiamovie

I didn't see no sand beasts in the trailer so I will doubt this on this sheer example. #princeofpersiamovie

I think this movie has the potential to outperform the Pirates movies from what I've seen so far, but I highly doubt it would happen because the movie is based on the game, and gamers sure as hell know about torrenting. #princeofpersiamovie

@Americo: @pekosROB: shh, don't tell those console guys.
The movie will probably be a bust. Partly for hairy man-bust advertisements. #princeofpersiamovie

I assume when they are talking about Pirates of the Caribbean, they are referring to the original movie that was based on an amusement park ride. Either way, I doubt there will be much mainstream attention given to the fact that this is based on a video game. It's just going to come down to how good the movie is. We'll see.

I don't think it's all that ridiculous. Jake Gyllenhal got some acting cred in Brokeback Mountain and Jarhead, and I know people who saw Jarhead for the sole purpose of seeing him nude. Seeing him with his shirt off for an entire movie will be a big draw for that crowd. Obviously, there's no way that he is going to top Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, but he could certainly top Orlando Bloom (not difficult). Hopefully there are some good supporting characters as well.

Pirates of the Caribbean may actually help this movie because it has given Disney a good reputation in the genre. Before those movies, Disney live-action movies were pretty terrible. I think there many fans of the PoC movies will go see this. #princeofpersiamovie

Game publishers are used to talking up a shit product. When I was in the industry, I once had to praise a steaming mound of crap to the press. It was a dirty feeling. Movies are really no different, though game publishers try a little harder to sell dog food, rather than simply canceling all preview screenings.

The things is, we don't yet know where this movie lands in the Bloodrayne -- Super Mario Bros. spectrum of crap. It could even be medicore with a dash of promising, like Silent Hill (which was better than it had any right to be).

If Yves Guillemot walked out of the PoP screening in disgust, he'd still be "anticipating" a 2.7 billion + windfall to the press. He's used to it.

Jake Gyllenhaal looks lost and drunk in that photograph. #princeofpersiamovie

    I doubt it.

Like others have pointed out PoC was something pretty much every American household was/is familiar with. Add in a dash of that fantastic Johnny Deep and you have yourself one awesome movie. I say move and not franchise because the 2nd and 3rd films were so-so.

PoC1 however, oh man that wasa slice of heaven.

But hey, maybe PoP will be so good it'll do better. Personally I wouldn't hold my breath but you never know.

Though, I could see Shahdee the Time Bitch being VERY popular with the male crowd.

Ubisoft, please, calm down and slow down here for a second before you invest any more money into this. The fact that the PS3 nor the 360 version sold less than a million a piece doesn't help this vomit.I'm hoping the Avatar flop will really overshadow this potential flop.

@globones (not a mark, but a smark): The movie is based on PoP: The Sands of Time, not the more recent game on the PS3 and 360.

Not that the better original source material will help this movie. #princeofpersiamovie

Yeah... uh... no. No way. Judging from the trailers, it looks like a slick ride, but I didn't spot any Capt. Jack Sparrows in there.

Without Jack Sparrow, the Pirates movies would have been shit. He made that franchise, almost single handedly.

And as attractive as uber-Jake's meticulously shaved chest is in that pic up there, I don't see it generating the mass appeal that Johnny Depp's bi-curious pirate did. #princeofpersiamovie
