PlayStation Store Update Raises Prices On PSP Downloadables

Gamasutra has noticed a change in some of the PlayStation Store prices on downloadable PSP titles, mostly "premium" games being republished on the store.

One title, Gangs of London, saw its price rise by 11 dollars to $29.99. Kingdom of Paradise and Ape Escape: On the Loose saw six-dollar jumps, while Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, WipeOut Pure and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo saw their prices go up by $5.

Twisted Metal: Head-On PSP and LocoRoco saw only a dollar increase. Many other titles, including FlOw and Echochrome remained the same, while The Con actually saw a $10 reduction.

Gamasutra's full list of changes follows the jump:

On The Rain-Slick System Specs Of Darkness

Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness comes out this spring, and while Xbox 360 just have to worry about when to download the game, PC, Linux, and Mac users have other worries. How much is this game going to cost me? Is my computer powerful enough to run this monster? Will I be able to perform a Hyper Ultra Extra Combo Extreme? Fortunately the latest press release from Hothead Games answers the first two questions, announcing a price of $19.95 and some relatively modest system specifications located after the jump. As for the third question, just check out the latest screenshots to catch a glimpse of the mystical H.U.E.C.E.. Magnificent, I say! More »

GameStop Expects Wii Delays, 360 and PS3 Price Drops

During a recent investor call GameStop execs said they expect that Wii shortages will continue for at least another six months and that the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will both see a $50 price drop this year, Gamasutra reports.

Asked in its investor call if the company was seeing an end to the post-holiday shortages that affected the Xbox 360, DS, and Wii in January, company COO Dan DeMatteo said that specifically with the Wii, the company anticipated that the console's supply "won't meet demand for the next 2 quarters," at least.

The company also assumes a $30 price drop for the PS2, but said they don't see one coming for the Wii or PSP.

The call wrapped up with talk of how the-economic-down-turn-which-must-not-be-named won't effect the game industry and could in fact lead to sales growth as more people travel less and stay home more.

European Wii Fit Price Announced

Those lucky Europeans who are getting Wii Fit a month before North America aren't faring so well when it comes to price. Nintendo announced today that Wii Fit will retail for £69.99 in the UK and EUR 89.99 in the rest of Europe when it's released on April 25. Not so great when compared to the suggested retail price of $100US in North America (about £50). Oh well Europe. At least you'll be able to exercise - er, become aware of your body - a month before those of us across the pond!

PS3 Used As Example of Over Priced Electronics

USA Today ran one of those no-brainer stories today about how people won't, in fact, pay anything for electronics and do have limits for how much they're willing to spend. The story was spurred by last week's announcement by Steve Jobs that he was dropping the price of the iPhone by $200 (Hey, it suckered me into getting one.)

After citing an analyst saying that most consumers will only pay about $400 for a "typical electronic item" the story goes on to list "several recent cutting-edge devices (that) have struggled to find buyers" among them, both the PS3 and Blu-ray players.

•Sony in July lopped $100 from the price of its $599 PlayStation 3 video game system, even though researcher iSuppli estimates it costs more than $800 to make. Sony's move came after being outsold more than 2-to-1 by rival Nintendo's $250 Wii. (Microsoft's Xbox 360, starting at $280, has also outsold PlayStation 3.)

•Blu-ray players were expected to dominate the new market for high-definition DVD, but sales are falling short of expectations, says tech analyst J.P. Gownder with researcher Forrester. The players, made by Philips, Samsung, Sony and others, start at about $450. Players using a rival technology, HD-DVD, start at about $250. Despite Blu-ray's powerful backers, HD-DVD players are outselling it, Gownder says. (Exact numbers aren't in yet.) That's because the average high-definition TV owner only wants to pay about $204 for a DVD player, he says.

Double whammy Sony, ouch.

Warhawk Gets Date and Price

Everyone's favorite game developer Dylan Jobe just hopped onto the official Playstation Blog to announce both the date and the price(s) for the Warhawk. The game will go on sale in stores and on PSN on Aug. 28. The game will sell for $39.99 online and $59.99 in a store. The boxed version will come with some extra video content a manual and a Jabra Bluetooth headset.

Jobe points out that the game, while multiplayer only, is quite robust and says he feels it can easily deliver more than 70 hours of enjoyment. Most beta testers logged more than 30 hours and many more than 70.

Finally Jobe announced that the top 100 player in the beta are going to be receiving a fancy, very limited edition metal Warhawk Wings pin.

Rock Band Bundle On Amazon - $200

Amazon.com has posted listings for the Rock Band Collection for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and it comes to no surprise to anyone involved that the set isn't going to be cheap. $200 will snag you a copy of the game, the drum set, a microphone, and either a wireless guitar for the PS3 or a wired one for the Xbox 360, with a potential release date of November 20th, which we'll consider speculation until we hear something official. Breaking it down, with the game at $60, the mic at $30, drums at $80 and the guitar at $60, it works out to a savings of some $30 on the overall price, as well as a very sad bassist. Adding in another guitar brings the grand total to $260 or $280 if you opt for the 360's wireless version, keeping things pretty much in line with current speculation. Mind you the prices are still subject to change, and even now these could just be placeholders, but it certainly seems reasonable to me. Having spent this past Saturday at a part that featured drunk people, SingStar and Guitar Hero, I can only imagine it will be totally worth it. More »

EB Games Prices Are Insane

While the prices you find on the used shelves at EB Games and GameStop generally follow no logical pattern whatsoever other than the whimsy of a man in an office somewhere who was never played a video game in his life, this one is just ridiculous. It's bad enough some of us paid $3.99 for the Burger King games, especially now that they've dropped down to $.99. Now EB comes along and wants to charge double original retail price for a used copy of Pocketbike Racer?

Does this make sense to anyone? Did a conversation with someone in head office end with, "Look, I'm busy...just pick a price, dammit!"? Kind of makes you wonder how much they trade the games in for though, doesn't it? More »

Aussie Sony Exec Further Clarifies Crazy Statement

We were all amused when Sony Australia's Michael Ephraim screamed, "Hello, Microsoft and Nintendo? YOU'RE BLACK!" earlier today. Not just because Microsoft's whiter than white and Nintendo is, if we're speaking frankly, largely Japanese, but Sony telling its competitors that the Wii and 360 are too pricey is more equivalent to a dialogue an anthropomorphic pot might have with a kettle than a comparison a Sony executive, out of the bottom of his cups, might actually seriously claim. Rumor: $60 First-Party Wii Games? Say it Ain't So

Some Thoughts on the Wii

Instead of blasting off an editorial about Nintendo's day of announcement's yesterday while still digesting their news (and lovely gooey cookies and crustless sandwiches) I decided to come back to the hotel and go get drunk on sake with my wife, sleep it off and then write about the news. More »

Wii Europe: €249. December 8th.

Guess who's sick to death of the Wii? Motherfuckin' Florian, that's who. "Do you want to post this Australia Wii launch news, Flor?" Ashcraft asks me on IM. "NO." "LOL!" he replies. He is used to my ill-humor, but I have made it clear to him: the only thing I'm writing about the Wii today is the Euro date and price. More »
