(Yes, I realize XBL is the shiz-bomb-blat most of the time for those that use it. Perhaps I'm just being a pissy-pants because NXE killed my HDMI audio.)
@iby777: People who make the comparison between Live's cost versus PSN's lack thereof are simply not doing the math. For the same price as a PS3, you can get a 360 with up to six years of Xbox Live Gold service.
And as an added bonus, Live is way better than PSN.
@iby777: No. Wait. Sorry, I was gonna leave it at that but I have more to say.
I get called a fanboy at least 3-4 times a week on this site. The funny thing is, sometimes I'm a Nintendo fanboy, sometimes I'm a 360 fanboy and sometimes I'm a PS3 fanboy. Honestly people, either we're throwing this term around way too much or some sort of space-time-continuum thing is going on.
I spent a fuck ton of money to own all of these systems and I think I've damn well earned the right to not be called a fanboy anymore. Pointing out the advantages and flaws of each of the systems -- and yes, they each have advantages and flaws...because they're different from each other -- does not make one a fanboy.
PS3 costs more money but comes with free online service. The PSN is alright for what it does but it's not as good as LIVE. I've been a Live user since the original Xbox and a couple little bits of unstable service aren't gonna make me stop now.
That being said, the PS3 comes with built-in wireless whereas the 360 has a $100 add-on. See? They each have their pros and cons.
Well, you forgot to add the cost of a wireless adapter, a harddrive to store updates, and postage after having to send your 360 off to china 30 times in a row.
I'm not going to start anything, but the Arcade really is a bit decieving, overall, you get much less of the overall experience and you pay much more than the retail price.
I'm just happy that they said "large numbers of members were disconnected from Xbox LIVE", instead of the usual BS "A small, isolated percentage of members..."
I don't get people. Sony fubs pretty much every online games launch since the psn goes up and people still throw accolades. xbl has one major issue and from then on people piss themselves with hate every time there is so much a server hiccup.
Kinda shows which service you like more now that I think about it.
@Aprotosis: Yeah it's like PSN is the slow kid. If he does anything right, it stellar. The genius can't make one mistake because people will shit all over him for it.
But if the same thing happens this year on XBL, people have more than enough reason to bitch as there was significant reason to bitch last year. After all you are paying for it.
@Aprotosis: Totally agreed. As I already stated, I've been on live for a little over 6 years since the beta, and the only issues I ever had were last holiday season. I'd rather pay 50 bucks a year for all the features live has (no PSN doesn't have them all, and the ones it does try to mimic are crappy). PSN is a sad attempt at an online service, and quite frankly, being free shouldn't be a valid excuse.
what about the strangely LONG download times of late?
it took me nearly an hour to get a south park episode the other day, nothing going on within my network, and i got disconnected from XBlive a number of times...
@Ted: A free game is a free game but it doesn't necesarrily satisfy those who pay for xbox live and are actually only looking forward on a one night stand with GeOW2 multiplayer(me) once a week (friday night)
@JetPogi: Yeah, I can see what you mean. Undertow may have been the perfect compensation for people who only bought a one month, but for people who have spent £120+ (however many years xbox live has been up) I guess it can seem pretty subpar as compensation.
Just in time for the holiday's that MS. The largest software company in the world, had the service up for almost 5 years, and they still can't get their shit together. I wonder what BS arcade game (that noone wants) we will get for this one...
@VideoGameFan: lol apple shooter, bring the steve jobs down lol. no i dunno, but doesnt this seem to strike near the holidays? i dont have an xbox, but it seems to me that this happened a christmas or 2 ago.
@EVIL_V2: I would've said apple shooter too but i went into PC WORLD the other day and saw Microsoft Office 2007 for Mac, which bifaffled me like crazy, esp that it was an offical microsoft product.
@VideoGameFan: If someone does up a "Top 10 Video Game Disaster Moments of the Decade" in 2010, I'm pretty sure the Undertow for Live Issues debacle will be there. I can just see how that went down now.
