It was buggy as all when I was in the beta. If it's anything like that still, it has no chance of surviving. Not to mention it's kind of a bad idea to launch around the same time a much bigger game is.
It's a shame really, the core gameplay was pretty fun and had a lot of potential. Probably something worth checking out next year if the game is still alive.
I was pretty disappointed with the beta. Nothing felt tight. The world was bland (yes, I know, it's post apocalyptic, but Fallout had a rich and detailed world) and everything felt....5 years ago. Hard to describe, but it definitely wasn't anywhere near finished...felt like an alpha build during open beta.
I'd use Home a lot more if they did more stuff like they did for the "Fat Princess" release. They put a game in there called "Quest for Cake." Just a little mini-game where you answered trivia questions based on screen shots posted in the "gallery" around the space.
Upon completion, you got a little princess throne-thing to put in your space. It's brightly colorful and cartoonish, and completely tacky. I love it.
If they would give away more free stuff based on games you buy, achievements earned, and little in-game minigames like the above mentioned, you might actually get people interested in the service.
But as it stands, Home is unfortunately exactly what the detractors claimed it would be: A Second Life clone minus the fun of cyber-sex and making fun of furries.
@PapaBear434: But that's exactly what they are doing.
I have quite a bit of free odds and ends in my Home apartment. Fat Princess chairs, arcade machines, namco's Japanese vending machines, coffin couches, idol master can collection, RE5 figures...once you put this hodgepodge together, it looks pretty cool--and it was all free.
I'm enjoying Home lately. I can kill some time, watch interviews, play some min-games, get some free shit, and call it a day.
@def PD: To the right of the bar, there is a door to the "studio". Just walk up to the door and that menu window should appear. Just hit X, and you're good to go.
When you enter the studio, sometimes you have to let it load; once your ready, you'll see a top down view of everyone in the game. Each game is 3 rounds, but sometimes you enter on the 2nd, or last round. You can still play, but if you want to win, you have to wait for the next game.
It's really fun. It's funny seeing everyone running around trying to get to the right answer in time.
This is no different than the silly avatars on the 360. Only difference? One is essentially mandatory and you never have to be involved with the other.
@Sammo21: There are other differences. 360 Avatars can actually played with in other games on 360, wheras Home avatars stay in Home.
Can't you just pick a random 360 avatar and be done with it when picking it?

People can forgive bugs, they can't forgive boredom. If you can keep them interested despite the bugs, the game is going to do fine.
That said, I haven't actually played the game.

Home has some cool features, and the problems are often exaggerated, but it's one giant piece of troll bait.

You're not saying that Home is bad - you're saying that it attract trolls, like the ones who came in and said "Yeah, I agree that Home is bad."
Oh, how ironic. Unless I'm the one that is reading your statement the wrong way.

Be ye too young for GAMMA WORLD?
Because this is more akin to that, than Fallout.
