Did anyone ask him why Mikey Neumann won't honor pre-order bonuses for people who confirmed with him on the PC version?

    I'm still waiting Mikey.

I have never been so underwhelmed by a game's ending than I have by Borderlands. What a letdown.

    Great game though.

Nothing about the decision to use GameSpy or really any of the PC optimization issues.

@Stephen Totilo: I appreciate you bringing (or trying to bring it up), wasn't your fault really.

I would assume Randy would be at least somewhat aware of our issues, and not try to make listeners believe the problems were simply operating system and technical related.

    Thanks for trying though!

He's talking about the PC issues now, and blowing the real issues off.

He's deflecting the actual issues and making it seems like all the problems for the PC are more just like technical issues and compatibility problems.

    Way to go Randy.

@DuvalMagic: I appreciate the reply and forward to the forums.

I'm currently a member, and can testify that there have been numerous tweaks and optimizations after the fact for Borderlands PC version.

My question and concern is not on the technical side of thing, as Borderlands runs fine on my OS and computer. My question, as well as many others, is more on the design aspect and the reason why on many things.

For instance, why/how was it decided to use GameSpy as the method for multiplayer instead of using the Steam interface for example?

Why after after delaying the PC version for a week after the console version, was the version still blatantly not optimized for PC users. e.g. Wonky driving controls, unintuitive interface for keyboard mouse, lack of basic video settings features, lack of voice controls.

You yourself stated in a previous interview prior to Borderlands release something like "Borderlands is being developed on the PC first and foremost and will be optimized as such." I was just disappointed as it didn't seem much thought was put into the PC version and optimizing for it.

Borderland is still a great game, and deserves major props. Just slightly annoyed at some aspects of the PC version.

Oh, and on the off chance you reply to this, what caused Borderlands not to be in the Games for Windows Live library. I hate how my achievements in the game don't go towards my XBL profile! :(

In reply to Gearbox's Randy Pitchford Talks Borderlands And More In This Week's Podcast
As much as I'd love to grind Pitchford over the PC treatment of Borderlands, things are *finally* getting better. I almost expected a weird, almost parallel universe Valve move where DLC would never get ported to PC--*finally* made good on it. The options are better now, I can turn off my mic, most of the talents work okay now.

...That said, I still want someone to ask him why the hell we have to resort to draconian measures in order to link up to a game with anyone else and why we had to deal with screwy DRM issues for the DLC, and whether or not he's going to just join the list of people that release crappy-ass PC versions than claim the PC market is dead. (Which ironically is filled with devs that started and achieved prominence on the PC).

@Legaldeath187: They've already addressed this before and currently they said they are working on it but are still unable to find a solution.

The problem is because when you have split screen, you have to process two separate worlds for each screen. Apparently, the console does not have enough processing power to get 2 people online with another 2, let alone four player local co-op.

I remember reading in their interview, if anyone has a solution, they are all ears.

@Slinkytech: The first step would be to not be a game design major.

Seriously lots of companies wont even bother if they see that on a resume. If you want to work at a game company you have to think of what interests you most in game design and then major in something that applies to that, such as animation.

What these schools call game design doesn't prepare you enough to have any job really.

@KommanderKeith: Have to say I think you're a bit misinformed. I have a feeling you might be thinking it's like digipen. It's not. It's a liberal arts college, 4-year degree. It's actually one of the few "real" game degrees. What I mean by that is that you're taught almost everything and you specialize in one area. There is animating, modeling, texturing, programming, lighting, game design, character design, etc. But you also get a liberal arts education. It's not a crappy degree.

And techinical right now I'm an Animation major, Bachelors of Science. But our programs cross over, so the BS Animation degree has a lot of game related classes, kinda for the art side of video games.

@deanbmmv: I disagree completely unfortunately. Bioware brought nothing new to the table but a pricing scheme. it s just another Bioware d20 rpg in a super generic fantasy setting. i played the hell out of it and loved it, but still not worth the title of best New IP. Arkham Asylum is a Batman Game, and as far as i know that IP has been around since the early 20th century. And infamous, while good, was really just a cleverly disguised 3ps in a somewhat boring environment that was really only worth a single play through.

so that's the troll section of this post i guess. (sorry that came out a little pushy.)

i just started my fifth Character on Borderlands and haven't even STARTED going online yet. YES it's just another Unreal engine-d fps, YES the story is practically non-existent, YES the characters are a bit one dimensional, and YES Claptrap gets annoying. but god damn it for some reason i still can't stop playing. i got the platinum trophy weeks ago, but i'm still loving it, and i'll be the first motherfucker to get the Underdome when that comes out, Long-term storage FTW.

so to each his own. there were lots of good games that came out this year, but Borderlands is my favorite game of the year. hands. down.

I hate to sound like a broken record (since, right now, every post here is about the PC port), but seriously - somebody ask him about the PC port! DLC #2 getting announced for the 360 and PS3 the same time that the first DLC comes out for the PC, the console-style interface (when it was supposed to be "optimized" for the PC), the lack of patches for important issues...

It would be nice if it really was optimized, like how DA:O was arguably the best on the PC vs. the console adaptations.

@JRock: So your basically saying you wanted the PC version to be the superior product to the console versions with that last sentance? It's better than them not porting it to PC though right. I mean, 360 has to put up with PC ports quite alot, so I guess one ported the other way doesn't hurt huh?

@Hooligunn: No he wanted the PC version to be the PC version.

Borderlands on PC would like getting a 360 game port where the analog stick controlled a mouse pointer.

PC uses a mouse n keyboard, but only half of Borderlands seemed to realize that. Which is really aggravating having somethings be fine with mouse clicks and then a menus screen later is up n down keys or enter keys n such.

@Hooligunn: Gearbox specifically said before the game came out that it was going to be "optimized" for the PC, when it was anything but after it was released. Otherwise I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it. I normally like to play shooters on the PC because I'm used to the keyboard/mouse combo, but if I would've known that the superior version was on consoles, I'd have bought it for my PS3 instead.

It's frustrating when things that you THINK would be a given, like using the mouse wheel to scroll up and down text in text boxes, doesn't work, and you have to use Page Up / Page Down instead. That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about.
