Let's hope the game behind all the buckets of blood and death animations also gets some care.

These monsters look a lot better than the ones they showed in the first batch of screenshots. Splatterhouse is one of my favorite nostalgic franchises, so one way or another I'm gonna play this. I just hope it doesn't disappoint.

The only thing 'uncomfortable' about this game is how bad it looks.

I get what they're going for but compared to the likes of Uncharted 2 it's just sad.

Not all games are Uncharted, some are better.
Why would you compare Indiana Jones game to Beat em up game?

@NoBodysGamer: Then I'll compare it to Devil May Cry 4, a year old title, or Bayonetta (on the PS3 even, that 'sub-par' port,) or Batman: Arkham... it looks worse than all of those.

Does anyone know if this uses the same engine as the Wolverine game that came out a little while ago? A friend was showing me how you could get shot up and rip the flesh off your bones before regrowing it and I went "hey! That looks like some Splatterhouse screenshots I saw on Kotaku a while ago!"

I really have no idea about the underlying tech of either game though...

@fuchikoma: Nope, pretty sure it doesn't use Unreal3 (powered Wolverine) because part of the license is you need the Unreal logo all over your marketing materials, which Splatterhouse doesn't. It's just a skinning/character rigging thing, and very much tied to their specific combat system. It would probably never be a stock feature of any middleware.

    from [www.develop-online.net]

"Working with Unreal allowed us to add depth to the game. That’s why we were able to create a Wolverine model with three layers of regeneration. We have the skeleton; the muscle and skin; plus the clothing on top of that. That’s all made possible using Unreal’s materials and shaders..."

@cptincognito: Very informative, thanks! You're right, if it used Unreal3 it would be pretty obvious. Both seem to have very dynamic flesh damage with multiple detailed layers though from what I've seen.

I'm happy to see what Rick is fighting are actually horrible demons and not humans that fell into a few too many vats of acid.

The mood and setting (and gallons of blood) all seem to be pretty well done, and right. I'm still on the fence about this, but it's looking better as we go.

I like how 90% of this list is copy and pasted from the Xbox 360 buyers guide list. Maybe it would have been better to filter off the multi-platform titles into a separate list so the console specific articles could focus more on the exclusives.

@Odin: why would you not include multiplatform games in a list meant to be used as a guide for whether or not to purchase a title as a present?

Does the fact that a game plays on a system you don't own somehow impact the enjoyment you derive from playing it on a system you do own?
