It's not a Batman-related DLC pack. It's not a Darksiders demo. It's Wing Commander IV. Only downside is that it's obviously the lesser PS1 port, but hey, Wing Commanders can't be choosers.

The first of four avatar packs, each featuring three or four LittleBigPlanet-themed icons that can represent you on the PlayStation 3 cross media bar and friends list, are going for $8.00 HK in Hong Kong, which translates to about $1.00 USD. In Europe, individual premium avatars are priced at £0.20/€0.25 each. Not a bad deal, should you have a dollar or two rotting in your Wallet.

On the other hand, it's a formerly free thing now monetized, something Sony seems more and more interested in doing lately. Good for business, bad for people who want things given to them gratis.

Yes, in addition to the endless list of discounted games and DLC, there are GT5 demos both for those countries eligible for the GT Academy and those that aren't, and a PSP demo for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker should keep Kojima's acolytes busy over the run-in to Christmas.

I suppose it's up to you to decide whether the Army of Two: The 40th Day demo takes precedent over downloading Pavement's "Cut Your Hair," but now PlayStation 3 owners can do both. The good news for PSP owners is that a ton of UMDs have made the jump to digital download, including a trio of Metal Gear Solid titles.

Even better are new deals on games like GTA: Chinatown Wars and Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This? All of these things can be pondered while scanning the list below.

In an email sent out to PlayStation email subscribers, Sony announce in the "coming soon" section that Final Fantasy VIII will be turning up on the PlayStation Store.

I'm interested to see how it holds up after all these years, both because it's my favourite Final Fantasy game, and because last time I played it I remember it holding up much better than Final Fantasy VII does these days.

Perhaps most notable is Q Games newest, PixelJunk Shooter, a mere ten dollar download. The PlayStation Network game is joined by side-scrolling beat 'em up Revenge of the Wounded and top down hop 'em up Frogger Returns.

On the PSP side, new digital versions of some of Konami's greatest contributions to the platform, including Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles and Silent Hill: Origins, are yours for the Memory Stick storing. The full list of new additions is below.

Being a big Nobuo Uematsu fan myself, MTO USA doesn't really have to market a $4.99 downloadable PSP puzzle game featuring his work in my direction. Those 33 million users download a staggering 25 petabytes of data a month. More importantly for Sony, they're also spending three times what they did last year at the PlayStation Store.

Sony's presentation highlights what it called a significant revenue in downloadable games and add-ons. The company also pointed out that its video delivery service now has more than 2,417 movies and 15,047 television episodes.

A final point made in the slide presentation by Sony about the PlayStation Network is that a new revenue stream is coming from a subscription model.

Reached for contact this morning, SCEA told Kotaku that in terms of the PlayStation Network and subscriptions "we're looking into a variety of options, but nothing to announce at this time."

We expect that Peggle and the darker, no-more-dangerous Peggle Nights for PSN will feature match the PC and Xbox Live Arcade versions, with Challenges, Adventure modes and replays intact. What the PS3 version brings to the table is the option to upload replays to YouTube, directly from the game itself. Awesome.

Price for Peggle? $9.99 USD. Peggle Nights will run you an additional $4.99 USD, once the fun of the original has been sufficiently drained.

PlayStation 3 owners who haven't enjoyed Number None's time twisting platformer should really drop the $14.99 USD and do so. Other highlights include the release of a quartet of Pinball Heroes games for the PSP, the digital release of Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble and... a Dita Von Teese theme for your PlayStation 3? Perhaps for those lonelier gaming sessions, when a wallpaper of Dita downloaded from the internet simply won't do.

Two bucks is just a little too rich for my blood, especially when there are comparable Tekken 6 Nina, Lilli and Zafina wallpapers to download for free.

"I know lately we've had a bit of a lull in the updates", SCEE's Mike Kebby writes on the European PlayStation blog, "and whilst they may not have been massive, we have been adding steadily to the store (for you PSP users especially), but next week, there should be a nice stream of content released, and I'm hopeful that some of you will be pleased once you see what's coming".

"There will always be dips in the release schedule, that's just the way it goes at times, but we always come out the other side smiling don't we?" he continues. "Seriously though, we'll be doing our best to make sure these lulls become less and less frequent, because we do want our community to be happy smiley folk after all".

Amazing what a little explanation can do for bad news, no? Unless you were really looking forward to Braid. In which case, I can't help you.

While Numblast may sound like a topical cream used in more intimate circumstances, it's actually a video game! It can be enjoyed on the go or from the comfort of your DualShock 3 for just $4.99 USD and should probably be enjoyed by fans of the PopCap school of tile-swapping, brightly colored short session games.

A trailer for Numblast is after this, which may help explain just what this new addition to the PlayStation Store will be like.

Of course, I'm talking about the the free Hot Pockets themes and wallpapers that are available to U.S. customers. Sure, the addition of demos for Critter Crunch and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time are aces, as is the long list of new downloadable PSP games, but who doesn't want to see some cheesy, meaty, flaky goodness in 1080p every time the PlayStation 3 boots up?
