I wish Microsoft did what Sony does with their greatest hits. Just have a paper insert that says "greatest hits" along the top, which doesnt actually affect the boxart- Point in case, I just bought Uncharted 1, and I thought at first it was going to be all screwed up and I'd have to live with this blaring red line across the top of my game box.. but luckily they faked it! :D The box art is the original and beautiful, not muddied up with greatest hits stickers and the like.
@Go Go Gadget: Guttah Trash!: That's only until they get the actual red cases in production. I've seen a few Greatest Hits with completely red cases. But yeah, I wish they just put removable labels on the cases.
Good, I've been waiting for Left 4 Dead to drop price, same with The Force Unleashed. Now I look forward to the PS3 side for Killzone 2 and the original LBP to go to $30.
@gold163 (° д° ): Surprisingly, here in Canada (at least where I live in Ontario) it's still $60 everywhere. The cheapest I've seen it is $50 which was strange since the Orange box is only twenty.
@kyle4: Wow, that's the worst. I don't suppose you could have bought the PC version? I'm pretty sure Steam's prices are the same in all of North America... right?
@gold163 (° д° ): I just bought the PC version of Left 4 Dead. I should have just held out for the cheaper 360 version, even though the PC game looks better (and can be modded) -- configuring it to use the right controller is near impossible (yes, blasphemy, I dislike mouse+keyboard).
Also, I played the 360 version quite a bit when it first came out and am more used to the community.
GTA IV is getting the platinum hits branding so they can sell new copies instead of used when Liberty City Episodes drops. L4D and SFIV are obvious as stated in the post, but is Saint's Row 2 really a platinum seller? Star Wars: TFU must have some slumping sales.
I wonder when PS3 will pop out a new line of greatest hits. Really hoping Modern Combat will come down in price so my friends and I can start playing that without dropping around $50 each for the GOTY edition...
Ehhhh...I got it primarily since I need a new 360 game to RROD my console before the warranty expires (shhh!) so I can get it replaced with a Falcon/Jasper/whatever system.
I've been interested in Mass Effect for a while, would it be recommended to someone who only really has experience playing JRPGs and Action/Adventure games? I want to borrow a friend's 360 for it, but I'm wary on spending money on a game I'll suck terribly at.
@terebi: Terrible inventory, clunky controls, characters with next to no actual characterization, a villain with no motive aside from "I hate humans" and "I'm being controlled," very short (25 hours for me with every side quest) and some pretty bland interactions and choices.
@Ueziel: i have to agree with you. when i finally got a 360 last year, this was one of the first games i got because it was so uniformly praised- and because it could be easily procured for around 20 dollars. after getting about 10 hours in, i wondered when it would get good. so i asked my friend (who had recommended it to me- and whose opinion i normally trust when it comes to games). he told me i was already about halfway through the game. at first i was relieved- but then i realized this meant i had already seen almost everything the game had to offer and i still hated the shooting/battle mechanics, the level design, the inventory system (an extremely valid complaint i have been hearing a lot of recently) and the story in general. the isn't bad, it's obvious that this game was quite well polished and specifically designed to play just as it does. i just don't like it.
this game is quite simply not for everybody. if you have years of experience playing PC RPGs- maybe this game is heaven. but to a lot of us, it's a constant headache. i was just really glad that i didn't spend any more money or time on this one than i already had, because this game- despite being well crafted was certainly not at all intended for gamers like me. the good news is that it's cheap enough to try out for yourself without having to feel burned in the event that you don't like it. so i guess my advise to anyone curious would be to get it and try it... with a little caution :)
@laser beams: Now THAT is a critique. (And I'm saying this is a huge Mass Effect fan)
If the internet as a whole could adapt to that mindset of "different people like different things", fanboyism and the vast majority of flamewars would be dead.
@apollon: Well, it hasn't been brought up yet... All the trolls are in school, and they're apparently in a biology lab because they don't have internet access which they would if they were in any other class ("You better be doing your crunches and pushups at that computer, Billy, or no recess for you." And billy replies "I'ma chargin my lazur." to which the teacher says "I'ma chargin my red 'F' making pen."... ok, so I just got up, my brain's not in full operation yet)
@Synnie: Me too... My PS3 and PSPs and PS1-3 games are all at a friend's house, who's packed it up and is moving, because I wanted to focus more on school... And yet, here I am commenting on Kotaku. Procrastination is awesome!

Burnout Paradise is still the best deal for a platinum hit. $15. How can you top it?

Or any Nintendo game.

I don't even think Nintendo is doing that system anymore. They're already making a ridiculous amount of money as it is.

They aren't. But they should.

Last year, they did it at E3. Wouldn't be surprised if they add Uncharted, MGS4, and Call of Duty 4 to the list this year. Maybe LittleBigPlanet.
