Well damn, if none of the systems are real, that just leaves the Phantom.
The Phantom is a real console!

"real games" "not real games" "fake games" all that stuff, it's comments that mean nothing.
Wii is a video game system that plays video games, thus it's a consle.
I'm a video game player, I like games, I play Wii. Thus it's a video game console is it not?
Just because I don't like Grand Theft Auto 4 doesn't mean that's not a real game does it? Well, if people don't like Wii or have games that intrested on it, that doesn't mean it's not a real console.
I love Fallout 3, I play it on PC and would never dream of playing it on Xbox 360 or PS3 or Wii (if it had it), because I want the mod work and variety of options.
Wouldn't it be daft for me to consider those versions I don't want as "not real Fallout 3"?
This is my point, this is what I was making fun of. To just randomly say something isn't "real" is foolish.
Of course I am an odd person. Owning multiple consoles with multiple games, some the Wii has, some the PS3 has, some the Xbox 360 has, some only one console has. They are all real to me, they are all real to the world. Tis just games, just toys to enjoy and have fun with.

I dunno, killer7 was on GameCube and PS2 and it still sold worse than NMH. If anything, a PS3/360 NMH will fail, but will be a more detailed failure.
Putting a game on PS3/360 doesn't guarantee success.
07/13/09
I actually hope it does get ported to PS3 and 360, so that way when it doesn't sell a million+ copies the fanboys might finally shut up.

No More Heroes is more of a straight-up action game. The gameplay mechanics are far more conventional, and aesthetically, it's also much more similar to other games than Killer 7 was. So I think it always had a sales advantage for that reason. I don't have any figures, but I get the impression that No More Heroes has sold much better than Killer 7 did, here in Europe at least (I know Japanese sales started off very slowly, but I don't know if it didn't sell very many copies in Japan, or if it was just a slow burner).
These things aside, I get the impression that Grasshopper are not particularly interested in making games that achieve blockbuster sales if it means they have to compromise any artistic integrity. As long as the company stays afloat, innovation comes first. This is the reason No More Heroes went to the Wii in the first place: because of the innovative control system. A few years down the line, it has turned out that the Wii is the platform that is, perhaps, least receptive to innovative games (whether that innovation is in terms of aesthetics, narrative/thematic content, or gameplay). I would guess that the chance to innovate is, thus, motivating the shift in focus to an alternative platform. The 360 and (especially) the PS3 seem to manage a higher number of games that are out of the ordinary, and those games seem to enjoy decent media interest and sales.
Basically, I don't think that the greater graphical potential has all that much to do with this news. Of course, now NMH3 will probably be released in a few years and far outstrip any other game that's ever been released in terms of graphical prowess, just to prove me wrong...

07/14/09
Yeah, it's a cult game. And one with mixed reception, as i said. But let's not talk about it like it was Zeno Clash.... :)
07/14/09
But that clearly isn't the kind of success Fahey is talking about. If it was, then wouldn't you say Suda already had a success with NMH, if not, then NMH2?
07/13/09
No, I wouldn't. big violence does well on those systems. charm doesn't (exception of iPhone, which would limit NMH even more). Why is it so hard to swallow that No More Heroes would be a tough sell wherever it was?
Also, if he keeps saying stuff like this, he's NEVER gonna get into Smash Bros :)
07/13/09
Of course, in fanboy speak, anything going multi-platform translates into "WAAAARGARBL THE WII/PS3/360 SUX!"
07/13/09
Still, I wonder how Solid Snake ended up in Smash, considering that Nintendo has gotten less love from Kojima than anyone.
07/13/09
So if Suda wants to see Travis in Brawl, Sakurai is the guy he needs to pester for it.
07/13/09
These kinds of comments really confuse me. Although hype and advertisements for vulgar, violent, and football games are what dominate the mainstream media, both HD consoles have a surprisingly large selection of charming games that have taken gaming innovation forward by leaps and bounds. Heck, even some of the most well-known violent games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4 have excellent storytelling and wonderful charm.
Still, saying the HD consoles don't have charm because of violent games would be like saying the Wii doesn't have charm because of all the shovelware and fitness games.
I can understand that you might not pay much attention to the other consoles if you don't own them, but please just do me a favor and check out the profiles of just a few of these games. The ones that are out, I love, and the ones that are still coming get me very excited!
Flower
Castle Crashers
Calling All Cars!
LittleBigPlanet
PixelJunk Shooter
Portal
Viva Piñata
To avoid sounding like even more of a troll than I already do, I'll stop here. Still, I can guarantee that every one of these games listed has in some way brought to the forefront a level of charm rarely seen in mainstream games.
Oh, and don't even get me started on the charm of Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do to Deserve This?
07/14/09
Those are all games that I own or have liked the demos for or the concepts of (except for Viva Pinata, which just didn't click, as much as I wanted it to). But I haven't seen anything like Madworld, HOTD: Overkill or No More Heroes work on the other systems. The violent games that work on those other systems are all a little less tongue in cheek. I'm gonna have to take your word that Metal Gear Solid 4 has something that I'm missing, but there is a weird disconnect between the humor and charm of GTA4 and the violent gameplay (Ricky Gervais's bit was great, though). No matter how funny the guy that sends you on the mission, it's still just 3rdPS bullshit (once you get out of the car) to me.
Humor and violence in video games is a tough sell. No matter the platform. If anything will change my mind on whether NMH would do well on any other platform, it will be Bayonetta's success.

That's the lamest comment I ever saw...
You think they would be making a sequel in the first place if the first one didn't sell well? Cmon now. May I remind you that the Wii has sold more than the PS3 and 360.
07/13/09
07/13/09
if sales dont matter, then why bother going multiplat?
07/13/09
He does state he has done everything he could on Wii and would like to try something diffrent elsewhere. Perhaps he is just one of those funny people who enjoys making "art" on diffrent mediums, for diffrent mediums create diffrent works of art.
Just a random theory though.
07/13/09
But considering the last game was extremely lazy and left a lot to be desired, but excelled when it came to boss fights and strangeness, I think Suda has a long way to go before his studio can make this claim.
I mean I LOVED the game but I also was extremely annoyed by it and am hoping the second one fixes all the obvious mistakes. I think it'll be weird though to fight in that game without the waggle controls or the minigames that made senseable use of those controls. Suda made one of the few games with waggle controls that made sense, but that still doesn't mean he should jump ship because the other systems are more powerful.
I feel like mainstream audiences will be turned off by this game. It's a cousin to all those Japanese game that never get imported but look like a lot of fun.
Maybe Suda should try actually advertising the game this time around instead of trying to take his cult hit mainstream.
07/13/09
On the other hand, Nintendo could release a new console that would level the playing field, and allow Suda to pursue more of his crazy ideas. However, it seems this could be a response to the poor sales on Wii.
With Nintendo focusing more and more on the non-gamer sector of consumers, it's unlikely NMH will be back after NMH2.

The new comment system is working in at least one way.... I'm resisting the urge to reply to Wii Defender trolls & their half-baked "Nyaah nyaah!" arguments...and thus, their comments do not get promoted.
FYI, when you hit "Submit" in Opera Mini, it jumps to the top of the article instead of submitting. It did that the first couple days of the new system, but had been working ever since.
07/13/09
The fact that only star commentators only get to have their say is the broken aspect of the system.
And whaaaaay to posting on the topic, you’re a model to us all.
On topic, with the whole baiting wii trolls. In the 3 years or so it'd take to make the next nmh will the wii still be here?
I'm thinking more the wii2.... wiii-ii??? Possibly the piis?

I slave over, and occasionally do research for page-long legal posts about Tim Rangdell, the Halo killer, and FTC intervention in online barter transactions and I get grayed out. Meanwhile, this post shows up BY DEFAULT.
A post that has nothing to do with the topic of discussion showing up BY DEFAULT.
Not that I care or anything.

I really love Kotaku's SHITTY NEW COMMENT SYSTEM.
Oh wait. There was no point in my typing this, since no one is ever going to see it D:<

07/13/09
I'm definitely going to purchase No More Heroes 2 for the Wii, but I'll be even happier to see it on the 360/PS3 where it is less likely to have the number of technical issues and limitations it had on the Wii.
07/13/09
Natal is the EyeToy, and nobody's going to call that the next gen of gaming. Meanwhile Sony's own developements have been tech demoed and look impressive, but there's still a level of impractibility that one might see for certain titles.
07/13/09
AND motion control wasn't an excuse for weak graphics. It was a big risk for Nintendo to try something different with motion control and they were trying to limit their potential loss by cutting corners in other areas. Oh sure hindsight is 20/20 and we now know that motion control was a big hit but I think Sony & Microsoft's scramble to copy Nintendo is vindication that Nintendo had the right idea and more people than not don't really care how good graphics get after a certain point.
07/13/09
And saying that motion control wasn't an excuse for weak processing power or graphics makes it worse. That way, Nintendo has NO excuses for those types of mistakes, IMO. :P
07/13/09
I mean, I heard MS had Milo running behind closed doors, but I need a little more than whispers. Since Nintendo already introduced the technology, simply saying "We have it too!" isn't enough.
I'm not counting either out - but call me very skeptical until there's more to it.
07/13/09
Don't get me wrong, I love NMH, and I even found 100% of the medicine balls, and buried treasure (you might call me a fan) but seriously! If the open-world stuff is still half-assed in the sequel, I think it's safe to say you *haven't* done everything there is to do on the Wii.

I don't get that from what he said. Creative talents don't usually concern themselves as much, at least publically, with sales and such.
I thought it was fairly clear he w as approaching this from a technical perspective.
Either way, unless NMH2 is a HUGE step above NMH, I don't think he's anywhere close to having done all he can on the Wii.
07/13/09
With Project Natal and Sony's Eye technology working overtime to show what's in store in the near future, it is possible to see new incarnations of the No More Heroes series to make their way, using enhanced flailing, new ways to break stuff, and more ways to piss off your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, roommates, parents, dog, cat, hamster, etc.
When the newest scanned peripheral hits the tube literally, I hope to see it in YouTube, in all it's slow-mo. glory : )
On another note, it's going to look even weirder on XBox's Project Natal when Travis charges up his beam katana...

Would do amazingly on the iPhone? Where are you pulling these fiscal fantasys that developers will make more money with the App Store than the Wii?
