Still, the gray mech has a heavy Robotech tinge to it, I don't think it's a rip-off.

Inspired? Fine, but that doesn't warrant legal action. Both look good in their own ways.

It's not just the Warhammer. The Marauder, Wasp, Stinger, and a few other Battlemech designs were 'borrowed' from Macross/Robotech.

At this point FASA or Jordan Weissman or whoever owns the Battletech/Mechwarrior IP's should pay a license fee to use these designs. It would be a shame to have to remove them from the game and future Battletech products.

Absolutely. The Warhammer is kind of iconic of Mechwarrior. Granted it doesn't have the same stature of the Tiimberwolve but it just wouldn't be the same without the old PPC spitting monster :)

They are all big fucking mechs with guns. One could argue that they are all the same thing if they wanted to get technical.

That being said, the red mech and the Tomahawk look NOTHING alike.

The mech in the vid is a Warhammer, which, yes, is a rip off of the Tomahawk. But to be more accurate, the Clan-designed Warhammer II is a closer copy. Either way, I was under the impression this nonsense was long dead and forgotten.

Bring the trailer down? Fuck you, Harmony Gold. You will not ruin the new MechWarrior game with your piddling horse shit. I can't even recall the last time I saw a Tomahawk in a Macross anything.

@Atheist Jew: It had been, until Catalyst (BattleTech's owner) re-secured the rights to use the images. Then there was some kind of snafu where some images, including the Warhammer/Tomahawk, went right back to not being able to be used.

I will have to echo the sentiments of "Fuck you, Harmony Gold."

Ok, 3015. If I remember correctly this would be the Davion-Steiner wedding? So we'll not have The Clans, and the Atlas will truly be the scariest thing around. I just want a Wolfhound, but sadly I don't think that will happen.

That trailer was simply amazing. I pray that those are ingame graphics. I also pray that this game is sim like. I have faih that this dev, despite it's past performances on other robot games, will treat this franchise with the upmost respect and deliver unto us an amazing mechwarrior game

I can't believe it. I honestly never thought I would see another MechWarrior game.

Let us hope it doesn't take place within the god damned WizKids reboot Universe "Dark Age" which was basically WizKids taking a giant shit on the faces of Battletech fans. MechAssault 2, remember that? That was Battletech: Dark Age.

Sorry, I can't get optimistic about this in the least. I read 'reboot' to mean "Like Microsoft's shit or worse" and not "Return to old-school FASA (Pre-WizKids) Battletech/Mechwarrior style"

What really burns my ass (Ironic choice of words) is that I literally CAN NOT return to those days after losing all my BT miniatures, books, and maps in a fire. The materials simply no longer exist!

I would give my right nut for an open tabletop gaming engine with some real graphical chops. Kind of like Fantasy Grounds II does for online pencil and paper RPG gaming, but with an open-ended 3D engine for terrain and environments that you can plug any common 3D model format into. (And with a nice fairly human-readable scripting language for writing ruleset-specific interactive sheets and dialogs)
