Wait, so the monsters are living happily on some remote island. Doing what monsters do, sharing food and giving hugs. Then some guy washes up on the shore and just starts killing them?
Is he trying to disrupt the delicate balance of the ecosystem?Maybe I misinterpided the trailer.
i don't get it...the video stream of them both being interviewed talking about Risen was on the Xbox dashboard about 2 months ago..how come you guys have only just heard about this?
Well, that's pretty cool. I think Andy Serkis is a pretty good voice actor and if John Rhys Davies is playing the same role he usually does then I'm sure he'll do just fine.
Wow, they really didn't give us a whole lot to be excited about did they?
The scenery looks pretty nice. My first thoughts were that this looked like a gothic 3 + assassin's creed influenced game and then I read the article and saw that it's being made by Piranha Bytes. The Gothic series always had great scenery/landscapes worth exploring. Risen looks like it continues along that path, but ditches the Gothic name and story due to all the bad publicity from Gothic 3?
I like how the soundtrack and the video editing made tending to a garden and organizing your kitchen look epic as hell. The hook of the song probably should have synced with the video around the time the fighting started
I've always liked Nightwish, something about the overall cheesyness of the music appeals to me.
That said, I think Rhapsody would be absolutely perfect to do the entire soundtrack for a game. It would be epic. I mean they already have songs about wizards and the dark caverns of clogmore and stuff... fits perfectly.
@thesircuddles:
Any power metal would do. My vote goes towards Blind Guardian. They already sing about Lord of the Rings, why not include them in an RPG?
Even some atmospheric black metal would be good for dungeon crawling.
@LoLAdrian ...And Then Comes Lividity: If you've never listened to Nazgul's album "De Expugnatione Elfmuth", you should definitely give it a try. Epic (symphonic-ish/folky) black metal. Or "Orkish Black Metal", as they call themselves.
@LoLAdrian ...And Then Comes Lividity: Ahh Black metal, perhaps the best, yet most boring of all subgenres of metal. Nightwish are shit, but if we're talking beautiful symphonic music early Venom > Emperor.
@LoLAdrian ...And Then Comes Lividity: And for someone claiming themselves to be seperate from the masses, you clearly don't know your metal sub-genres.
you know, i really do like nightwish, im hoping that they lock down all the problems gothic has had with gameplay. I know in sacred 2, blind guardian added significantly to the game, not only providing a few songs, but with their lead singer providing the voice of the bards and even showing up ingame as a teammate.
@Koztah: yep, he is fairly strong too, often the helpers are wimps, but he was leaving my buffed up seraph in the dust half the time. i had to give him credit for being a amazing sport about it. you rescue the instruments of the rest of the members too.
@Komrade Kayce - Hero of Soviet Kotaku: Im sorry I cant take the vocals seriously. Maybe Im missing something but its like metal with an opera singer..is that what its supposed to be? i really like the music and the video but the vocals...just crack me up. The chick anyways.
Symphonic metal is actually one of the most popular genres of metal. Within Temptation and Nightwish are probably the most famous metal bands in the world right now, either of them could probably match a Metallica world tour ticket for ticket.
@Blore07: DAMN! I might as well go kill myself right now since Blore of the perfect taste has claimed Nightwish to be trash. Do tell me, what isn't trash then?

Blind Guardian give a full-on concert in Sacred 2.
I'd personally like to see Korpiklaani or Finntroll do game music.

Yes, Emperor are the best hands down.
Zyklon doesn't do much for me, but Ihsahn's last two records were decent.

Emperor? Pff. Covenant/The Kovenant. Or Therion.

Uh, actually, it IS Metal with an Opera singer.
Thats kind of the whole point, er...
The lead singer is a Lyric Soprano, which is defined by Wikipedia as
"A lyric soprano is a type of operatic soprano that has a warm quality with a bright, full timbre which can be heard over an orchestra."
