Hey, look, this game has a feature people want! So, just like Yakuza 3, Sega won't bring it over because obviously the only thing worth localizing is shitty Sonic sequels.

Seriously, this better come out here. Especially since Sony seems far too lazy to give us Ad Hoc Party. :[

@Blyr: The funny thing about that video is that the show they dubbed over, Gantz, has a terrible English dub because of the voice of the Main character. The voiceover is whiny and annoying, and makes the character sound like a whiny loser who just entered puberty, like a 30 year old trying to sound like what his twisted conception of a nerdy teenager is, whereas in the Japanese dub, he sounded like, you know, the angry, hateful, sometimes badass teenager that he was supposed to be. Of course, you should be reading the Manga instead anyways, because the show kinda petered out whereas the manga is still being fucking awesome. Oh, and I prefer a *good* English dub over subs any day, unless the characters wouldn't logically be speaking english. Because why would Japanese people be speaking english? I want characters speaking their native language, if possible. Shit don't make sense otherwise.

@Blyr: That was awesome :) I agree with most of the points. Honestly, I prefer subs over dubs exactly because I don't like being aware of English over-acting. I'm completely oblivious to it when hearing the unfamiliar Japanese language. Ignorance is bliss ^_^ !!

@Blyr: Heh, entertaining vid. Pretty impressed with the lip synch and whatnot, considering that most of what was said had nothing to do with the actual plot. Even if it's rather needlessly antagonistic and one sided (ever hate hearing someone preach at you, and then tell you to shut up?), it covers most of the common things that come up with a dub vs. sub argument, which is pretty cool.

I do feel I should point out that the people who understand both Japanese and English and prefer the Japanese always seem to be ignored for some reason. Lots of people can understand Japanese nowadays (though admittedly a small percentage still), and to just ignore them speaks plenty to how stubbornly people like to cling to their native English language, even though it's obvious there's only a few talented voice actors in the whole bunch.

Half the problem with dubs, IMO, is the culture barrier. Half the voices don't match the person speaking (too squeaky or whatever), and obviously lip synching kills a lot of lines. We don't tend to have a lot of believable voice actors either, and half the time when I watch dubbed stuff I find myself getting annoyed with how cheezy or stupid something sounds. Lots of sounds in Japanese we Westerners just don't make, and we're forced to fill them in with oddly placed screams and stuff. Let's face it, we don't do grunts, groans, or whatever very well at all...

I believe there will be a time when English dubs can match Japanese dubs. I believe that if we got our excellent Hollywood actors to do some dubbing, we'd get some really great results. But as things stand now, voice acting isn't exactly a booming business here in the West like it is in Japan, so the gap in quality is to be expected. To deny its existence would be rather stupid to do.
