Wow! I have this game on the N64 within arms reach. But with the amount of work being done on it, I'll have to pick it up all over again. Nicely done Rare.
These XBLA remakes are pretty drastic. I was really surprised to see what Rare did for Conker's and now look at Perfect Dark. Shame Nintendo and Microsoft couldn't work out the finances for Goldeneye.
It's an even bigger shame that Rare hasn't made a good game since, since they were called Rareware.
Well, that's not true, but they haven't made any games that I personally, have loved.
It saddens me that this is what Rare is good for now. No longer are they making great games, but instead they get to go back and update their great games.
@Burning: Banjo Kazooie N&B was pretty far from the Banjo Kazooie games that were great. It was an OK game, but not a great Banjo Kazooie game. Viva PiƱata was the only decent original IP and they beat that with a stick by releasing a lackluster sequel . Yes, pun intended.
Awesome. I wonder how the controls are gonna work out, too. Hoping a more modern dual analog scheme if they can pull that off. Not that the original was bad; it's nonetheless spartan and outdated compared to today's FPS controls.
@excel_excel: Indeed. I played this game to death back in the day, and I personally think it is better in many respects than goldeneye was. Multiplayer is probably a smidge better on goldeneye, but each has their own pretty good story.
PD actually gives you the ability to fall though. And maybe jump, not sure on this one. And alternate gun modes (fly-by-wire rockets ftw!). And a training simulator for unlockables. Just a whole host of things I think they would've put into Goldeneye had they thought of them/had the time.
I almost think they are doing this with PD because of the whole rights battle over Goldeneye. And I will certainly be snapping this up as soon as it hits the marketplace.
This proves what I thought the last time I tried playing an N64 game, these old games are hard to look at.
The PSX, N64, and DC era of games hurt my eyes now that I'm used to the likes of the PS3's graphics. I'm not trying to be snide either, this isn't me saying, 'Oh my aristocratic eye are too lofty and elite to view the likes of you!' Not at all! I had the same problem with the Virtual Boy. I popped that thing onto my face and it felt like my brain was being microwaved.
It's just hard on my eyes to look at games like MGS, Goldeneye, and Alien Front Online. These updated Percfect Dark screens prove this to me, I guess it's just the hard edges that makes my head feel like it's tripping on something banned in the 70's.
@Friedhamster: Meanwhile, many 2d games don't really look very dated at all. Those early steps in 3d were instrumental, though, and I think they should be given credit for that.
@Friedhamster: Many of the games that came out of the era where the N64 would utilize both compressed AND uncompressed textures on the same screen in tandem were hard on the eyes, even back then. We just didn't really notice it because it's all we had. Go back and play Goldwood, the first planet in Jet Force Gemini and tell me your eyes weren't begging for mercy.
I'm hoping they add more multiplayer maps. The Perfect Dark maps left a good bit to be desired, with the exception of the more frantic levels like Ravine, Grid, Villa, and maybe Ruins. The Temple, Complex, and Felicity (heh) are fine as is.
I just wanna see The Stack from Goldeneye. That was the one thing that kept Perfect Dark from being multiplayer perfect, in my eyes.
Looks good. Hopefully, they've updated the aiming, it's a bit outdated nowadays. Regardless, I'll probably get this once it's out. Can't wait for some fun with golden magnums and remote mines.
@-MasterDex-: While it is probably a given, the biggest issue I hope they fixed was the insane frame rate drop that occurred during split screen matches.
@ChuBoi: We went on it one time for 'Mod Monday', and a dev n beta tester hopped on with us.
Having the opposing side with guys with God Mode on really drains the fun out of a game.
So we decided to ditch the game.
Overall it was kinda good, but the developers we're cunts so we left them to their devices.
As an example here's one of the 'achievements'
"You Should Be Honored - Get killed by a Developer or Beta Tester 50 times."
@deanbmmv: Wow. That has to be the single worst "achievement" I've seen. Funny to see that the game failed for you due to jerkwad achievements, but maybe it's for the best.
@Odin: Uh, all the content is staying, so we're still gonna get Facility, Temple, and Complex. In fact, Facility was re-released for PDZ.. #perfectdark
@FyreWulff: Ah it's complex that was my favourite. Considering all the issues about Goldeneye I'm surprised to see them though. Hell I'm surprised to see they managed to get a PD remake considering that whole Rare-Microsoft-Nintendo clusterfuck that exists. #perfectdark
@lorekeeperofmrow:
Wow, way to necro post. At any rate I'm aware the franchise is firmly in their grip but there can be issues with games previously published on other consoles. That's mainly on a case by case basis though.

Huge worlds to navigate are great, but then cutting your exploration short to continue with the archaic mission-based structure was tedious.
So yes, it was okay, like you said, but it wasn't a great game in the least.
