After a successful closed beta period, they're ready to let anyone and everyone step into the shoes of the Human, Winged Elf, or animalistic Untamed and explore the massive world on the back of their flying sword. The game features an extensive mount system which includes "the unique ability to mount and carry other players", and what's more fun than mounting other players?

Other features of PWI include a system of alignment that allows you to follow a good or evil path, customizable clothing, large-scale PVP battles and a Marriage System, which presumably comes into play after all that player mounting. Best of all, open beta characters carry over into launch, so for all intents and purposes this is less of a beta, more of a launch while we fix things sort of situation. Head over to the official website to sign up!

<![CDATA[A New Perfect World International Trailer]]>
Yesterday we trashed the old Perfect World trailer and today they released a new one. For the record, I have nothing against the game. Anything self developed earns my respect. I will say this though, this trailer is 10 times better than the one we trashed. It seems to be a lot more action packed and that is most welcome. On that note I received an email from a friend I know at GDC today telling me that he works on the game. He thought Trailer Trash was pretty great and really appreciated the coverage. While I agree with most of the Kotaku-ites out there that Trailer Trash had its faults, I am glad to see that the makers of the game have no hard feelings. Hey, It's all fun and games.
Updated: I totally missed this until it was pointed out in the comments. At the end of the video it says, "Now With More Lens Flare" Obviously it is a tribute to Trailer Trash.

<![CDATA[Asian MMO Players Love To Smoke And Grind]]> As a connoisseur of the MMO genre, I've often noticed that your average Chinese and Korean massively multiplayer online games tend to rely heavily on the mouse, often foregoing keyboard movement altogether in favor of the dreaded click-to-move system that I completely despise. So why do Asian MMO games lean so hard on the mouse? Perfect World product manager Jon Belliss believes he's discovered the answer - smoking.

He explains that a large portion of the Asian MMO-playing public spend their days in crowded internet cafes, cigarette in one hand, mouse in the other, chain-smoking while they are chain-killing mobs...and I suppose technically their fellow patrons as well. And here I was, trying to use gaming as a reason not to smoke.

The Surprising Reason Asian MMOs Are Mouse-Based

<![CDATA[Perfect World International Trailer]]> Beijing Perfect World is launching Perfect World International, an English version of the MMORPG that's built for English-speaking spots in North America and Europe (you won't have to play the Malaysian version if you don't feel like wading through other languages!). The closed beta will be coming next month with anticipated release in September of this year. It sure looks pretty — I may just have to fire up the game this weekend to see if it's actually that pretty on my computer.
