The series might be a bit obscure - I was the only person who pre-ordered a copy of DJ Max Fever at my local GameStop - but the fans truly adore the mix of intense rhythm gameplay, lovely artwork, and quirky Korean music that defines the franchise. As a way of saying thanks to said fans, publisher PM Studios and Pentavision are releasing extremely limited quantities of the DJ Max Fever the crew edition.

So what's in the box?

Folks who order one of the 125 copies going up for pre-order tomorrow will receive the game in a special housing created exclusively by the developer for the US release, the three-disc DJ Max Audio Trinity Soundtrack, a DJ Max Art book, a jigsaw puzzle, a Limited Post Card set, an NB Rangers Mask, a collectable DJ Max Technika IC player card, and a copy of game signed by the developers.

Is all of that worth $130? Ask me tomorrow morning, if I manage to snag a pre-order.

<![CDATA[Korea Getting More DJ Max (More Pretty Art)]]> Korean developer Pentavision has announced that, yes, there isn't just one new DJ Max title coming out, but two. The PSP rhythm title will be released in two different forms: Clazziquai Edition and Black Square. Pentavision is trying to satisfy both casual and hardcore gamers, but Korean website Ruliweb doesn't specify if these each are divided for those purposes or if both editions will feature separate modes for casual and hardcore players. Like DJ Max Fever, these new DJ Max titles have great looking art.

As Kotakuite Torokun points out: "I did notice that CE includes a lot of mainstream musicians."

<![CDATA[DJ Max Gets American Release]]> Hey, what's hot with the kids right now? Music games, that's what. Particularly the ones where you hit buttons in time with scrolling cues. It's into this receptive market, then, that PM Studios will be publishing DJ Max Fever, with the Korean fave (Fever is a mix of DJ Max Portable and DJ Max 2) due to receive its first ever American release on November 11. If you're a fan of the series, and have been stuck importing it until now, this is good news! If you've never seen nor heard of it, and the idea of Guitar Hero-but-for-DJs-on-a-PSP sounds great, be warned: it's really, really hard.

<![CDATA[DJ Max Dev Announces New PSP Shooter]]> Pentavision, the Korean developer behind DJ Max Portable, has announced it latest title: S4. Unlike their previous titles, this is not a rhythm game, but rather, a third person shooter. The game will come in to incarnations: an online PC game called S4 League and a PSP version called S4 Portable. When asked why Pentavision keeps making PSP games, the producer said they wanted to give something back to the fans who made their PSP rhythm game DJ Max Portable so popular. The new game is based on, and we're quoting the title's producer, "Stylish Shooting Sports." S4 League will focus more on team work, while the PSP incarnation will focus more on the "action game" elements. Characters from DJ Max Portable even make appearances! What's more, many musicians who provided music for DJ Max have created tunes for this game as well. Best part? Supposedly, the game will see a worldwide release.

<![CDATA[DJ Max Portable In The House]]>

Created by Korea's Pentavision, DJ Max Portable is a rhythm action game for the PSP. A really good rhythm action game that actually has me picking my favorite paperweight, the PSP, up again. Was sent the game yesterday evening and played it for an hour or so before calling it a night. The music is catchy, fantastic. Besides various modes of difficulty, DJ Max Portable also features unlockable tunes and modes. The game and its sequel are smash hits in Korea, but have yet to see a Western release. So, publishers, answer me: Why?

Contrary to popular belief, I do not hate all readers. No, some of you, the ones who write smart or witty comments, I actually like. Though, commenter Torokun has gone way above and beyond by sending me this copy of DJ Max Portable. He's a big fan of the game, had an extra, asked if I wanted it and sent it my way. Very kind of him and much appreciated!

<![CDATA[The Overlooked PSP Game]]>

It's a crapshoot, really. Some cool games get English localization. Some bad ones get it. Other never do, staying forever out of most Westerner's hands. While tiny percentage of really neat titles already with loads of English never get a US/Euro release.

Take DJ MAX. It's a Korean rhythm game (think DDR for the PSP and the PC) that appears to have been produced with the outside world in mind with the menu almost entirely in English, but the game has yet to achieve beyond import status. The video above is on the easiest setting — 4 button mode. It goes up to 8 button plus analog. It seemed poised to ride in Lumines' wake, but sadly, never did.

The game's company, Pentavision, just announced DJ MAX 2 for the PSP and, at the moment, Korea. Publishers, are you listening?
