I won one of their laptops when i bought wow... its really couldnt ventilate properly, it ended up ruining the motherboard, which i couldn't even replace cause it was an AMD motherboard modified for an intel processor... alienware can go eat a dick
The gaming laptop has great specs, however what I'm concerned about is power draw. Running games at full blast will probably kill a fully charged battery in 30 minutes! Makes the laptop really inconvenient unless you're near a wall outlet.
@bobombs: Gaming laptops are ideal for people that travel for work and stay over night in hotels. They aren't really meant for the guy on a 3 hour train.
That said, I look forward to the day when battery technology over takes power consumption and we get a month out of a gaming laptop battery charge. Clearly that's a few years away but it will come. (surely)
when i get my 10k bonus this year im blowing the whole lot on the most advanced gaming rig you will see for some time...and ill post pics etc. Im going dual 3d monitor and will likely outspec the stuff you have just watched by about 40%.
maaaannn i cant wait till the end of the tax year :D
@domhnall: Even though you were probably being sarcastic, I personally can't wait to see it. I love shit like that and wish Kotaku would show more ultimate set ups.
It would be pretty cool if they posted it as a discussion topic for everyone - go out and spend 10k on your rig, list everything you would buy and provide links.
The most expensive part would be the screen. How much are 80" extremely hi-res screens?
eh seems overpriced still, i was comparing asus gaming laptops compared to the alienware ones, and they are waaaaay over priced even with comparable performance
@Mike Newlad: Every time I use to go one those community LAN parties I see people with flashy rigs and everyone is awe by them except me and my friends. The people with the flashy cases and setups didn't disclosure what was inside while making fun of our gaming PCs.
When it came to play games however everyone wanted the person with the flashy rigs to host and end up in major fail while my friends and I had no problem because instead of spending money on flashy rigs, we ended up getting better parts even though it looks ugly as sin.
In the end the people who had flashy rigs got laughed at because most of the people had better internal set up then they did, we never saw them again but each year there's always someone to take their place and people with Alienware gets laughed at too for the obvious reasons (they paid too much).
PC building is a art and even if it isn't the best stuff in there, it has soul and people who brag with pre-built computer rigs (i.e Dell/Alienware) has no right to brag. I know some of my friends don't build one but they order it from other pre-built place for reasonable price but they don't get something flashy either just performance.
@Neko_Tech: Wow you guys sound like such losers. Who cares if you weren't in awe initially?
And really, when they had trouble hosting, people went and literally laughed at them? Come on.
Your whole post reads like one of those pathetic highschool comedies, except you swapped flashy cars and jocks with guys with flashy and expensive rigs.
@Pugnate: No they were acting like big shots, we were doing our own thing and they were brag about their pc. We didn't provoke them at all and we didn't initiate the conflict but they thought they were better than everyone. Everyone there laughed at them afterward when it was all show.
The trouble hosting was because of too much lag issue because they didn't have powerful enough rig. Not because it needs a powerful rig but like I said they spent all their money on looks to make it more powerful then it really is and put everyone down saying that their computer is powerful,ect..ect when it really wasn't and had most of them fooled.
Reading back now I can see how you thought that we were a asshole but you weren't there and it wasn't just me it was everyone there thought they were jackass. I have no problem with people with low spec computer at lans but if they talk shit and can't back it up then they deserve to be laughed at.
Nice specs but honestly that video and the looks, it could easily be in a dance music video or a rave music video for that matter. Seriously though it's a bit late 90s early 2000s sci-fi look.
I always thought the alienware design aesthetics were rather gaudy. Maybe giant plastic ridden cases just my thing but everyone else I know feels the same. Goofy looking things they are.
Unrelated stories, my buddy had an alienware desktop for a couple years and after his warranty it died and he hasn't been able to fix it due to some crazy watercooling, however he dissected it for some nice parts for another box. And another friend had a laptop that had fallen upon a similar fate but without the easy dissection. This makes me wonder, does alienware just have a "just past warranty" lifespan or are these pretty isolated cases?
@danieltolin: He could get one of those insane mods that replaces the in-game textures with extremely high-resolution ones, or get that one mod that integrates the cities with the world maps.
Yeah, using that PC to play just vanilla Oblivion is a huge waste.
I like the cases to a point, but if I'm going to spend over 2k on a PC it will have a Windy PC case. Sexiest cases ever. No pointless lights and cut aways; just great airflow and a sleek, adult design. Stupid Japan only, and err stupid $400-600 price tag.

No, sorry. I will not ever dump thousands of dollars into a computer. That's just retarded.

All they will play on it is WoW.

Heck, I built a Core2Quad Q9600 system with /eight/ gigs of DDR3 memory and /two/ GTX260s for a guy who only wanted to play OBLIVION.
Sure it's a pretty game, but holy crap. Oblivion can't even use SLI, and I /told/ him this.

Console manufacturing maybe, but who the hell wants to go up Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo?

My ass.....well, that isn't too bad.
