Regardless, I'm looking forward to this one.
And I'm also a little surprised that they're deciding to keep Isaac as the protagonist.

I know how Issac was at the end of the first game, but there's nothing stopping him getting his shit back together to do the same. After all, as the end shows,
**spoilers**
he had been in that state for the entire Game, and managed to survive through it!

1) More enemy variety. Seemed like there were just 3-4 different types of enemies in the first one.
2) Dismemberment is awesome, but don't force it on me. When an enemy takes just 3 bullets to their weak zone to die or 25 shots to anywhere else, then you're not really giving me a choice. And I like choices.
08:39 AM
1) Didn't RE1 have a limited selection of enemies too? First time out maybe there should be some slack given here? For a sequel ya I think you're right more is good.
2) Choice is good, but this may have been implemented purely to add challenge and over all fear to the game. I'll admit though when I spend more time finding ways to make one weapon a end all kill all weapon.... well it does get dull if I ignore the other weapons. Maybe a "what would kratos do?" philosophy would be apt for this.

Hopefully it's just a sign of bad marketing and not bad plot.

(I've just realised that I've made Ripley sound like Mr. Monopoly)

if you are talking about Aliens (Second movie). It is her nightmare at the beginning of the movie that makes her reconsider and go back to face her fear.
It's less that she "has nothing else on" but more that she has just found out that her daughter daughter died age 66, two weeks after Ripley was revived from cryosleep.
Motherhood and defence of the child is the major theme in Aliens. once Ripley loses the ability to defend her own offspring, her nightmare makes her realise that she needs to help defend the colonist of LV-426. her only alternative is to spend the rest of her life in terror over when the aliens will reach Earth.
As long as there is a firm notion that the character who survives horror can continue and end that horror for good, it is believable. For further comparison I reccomend analysing history of American army soldiers who volunteered for the Pacific war after surviving in Europe.
Also please note, my update reads like I know all of this as fact. I realise it is just my interpretation.

In Aliens I thought it was handled expetionally well. She was 'no way' until begged, realised she'd be forever having nightmares, found out her daughter had died of old age, that heavy firepower was being brought along, that she wanted to MAKE SURE they killed them off and not study them and of course, that the idiots had built a colony on the planet and families were in jeapordy.
Alot of factors there to sway her into something she didn't really want to do.
In games and alot of other sequels though, yes it is usually contrived and silly.

Push it, guys! Get it done before Summer 2010!

I think its could be more of a case that before the 11th hour Valve were being obstructive to its release. The do have HL:Source, a product that technically is competing with this free mod.
Of course I hope Valve wouldn't be doing that.

I honestly believe that Valve would have said something by now rather than "Hey, you guys, stop all this stuff in here, eh?" right before they are done.
07:46 AM
Kinda how Left4Winchester just unravelled due to fear of litigation.
07:56 AM
Fear of litigation... from Valve? Well, that would make no sense, as it's a mod for Left 4 Dead. And, well, that's what Valve wants.
More likely, fear of litigation from whoever owns the rights to Shawn of the Dead, correct?
Being that Valve supplies mod tools for each of it's products, I'm going to say that Valve is pretty chill with the bros when it comes to mods like this.
08:03 AM
Not to mention fan backlash.

I was mainly just suggesting fear of a cease n desist from Valve as a potential reason for it slowing down, it is possible, though Nezacant has suggested they actually have the full go ahead from Valve.
So I guess its just regular Valve time.
08:16 AM
Actually, it is enforceable. You may not like it, but the mod tools are a service provided by Valve that Valve can take away at any time. As well, Black Mesa is in the Half Life universe, one of Valve's IPs, which they can also suspend the use of.
Will Valve? Nah, like I said, "Valve is pretty chill with the bros when it comes to mods".
Can they? Yes.
08:18 AM
Jesus man, are you suggesting that Valve time is contagious?
Don't you realize the implications of this? We could have a full blown epidemic in days! (Centuries, actually, since the disease runs in Valve time as well).
