The biggest problem -- only problem as far as I'm concerned -- with AC2 is that it's made the original AC unplayable, at least for me. After finishing 2 I wanted to go back and replay 1, because all I really remembered of it was the setting and the repetition. Managed to get through about 30 minutes before realizing that AC2 improved on everything so much that I didn't want to deal with the original's limitations.
Oh well. Thank the maker for Wikipedia's plot summaries.
Stephen, what was with the IGN not wanting you to talk about Desmond comment? Did I miss something?
I didn't mind the ending of 2, thought it was a little over the top, never thought they would bring aliens into it, I thought the furthest it would go was questioning Jesus Christ and religion, ala Da Vinci Code.
@Mikeh12: Same, I'm not buying the whole "alien" thing. When Ezio asks Minerva is a god, she pauses and answers that she's simply one of the "ones that came before".
@Mikeh12: They created humans, ergo not human, ergo alien. Perhaps not in the little gray men sense, we don't know if they originated on earth or not, but they are still aliens, in essence.
@(Zombie) Jölan: My first perception, when I saw "The Truth", was: "Wow, so Eden really is Atlantis and Adam and Eve were Atlanteans".
The aliens theory works too, but you could always say that Atlanteans were really aliens (like in "Nadia - the Secret of Blue Water")
I was really disappointed with the first game, so I had tenuous hopes at best for this one. It completely restored my faith in the franchise. The sci-fi elements mixed in with such an interesting story set in a very important time of our history, it was honestly a thrill-ride. The ending left me with so many questions, but at least it ended better than the last game.
I can't wait to see what happens with Desmond and the assassins in the next game, I just hope it doesn't take too long to be released. I've been itching for some AC3 since I beat AC2.
A very interesting read, wonder if we will get an Assassins Creed: Adam and Eve? :P
I personally like the blend of historical and sci-fi, it makes the game unique in my opinion, as it was pulled off so well.
I think that after the trilogy is over, they will make more Assassins Creed games, as a franchise that big would not be left alone, here's hoping for Assassins Creed 29 soon! :P
@Stephen Totilo: Hmm.... He said not any time soon? Might mean we could get it as a spin-off at a future date, as I commented before, this franchise is to big to have no spin-offs!

@ShaggE: Cracking Eggs Of Wisdom: Yeah, with lines full of icy references like that, he killed Mr. Freeze and the super hero genre of movies for a lot of folks.
And as good as the new Batman movies are, I'm not huge on Christian Bale's 'gruff' voice he uses for Batman. It's like he's trying to hard to be Batman. Batman doesn't need to sound threating, he's the G. D. Batman!
AC2 won my own personal Game of the Year award (which is voted on by myself and my cat, who always votes for "string on a stick" but fortunately doesn't have a full vote). Even with the missing chapters, I felt it was worth $60 more than any other game in '09 (with Dragon Age a very close second), and I'm definitely looking forward to AC3. Just hope we don't have to wait till the next gen of consoles to see it.
I was going to wait for such a sale, but as soon as I found out my girlfriend actually liked playing it (when I tentatively pushed the demo her way), I jumped on it for full price - still glad I did.
@Karth is Ego Tripping: I'm fairly certain people say this after every single one of their updates. Initially, it seems like the game is broken, but within a few weeks, most people don't care anymore and just keep playing.
I mean, part of it is that everyone wants to try out the new stuff, so you see several Demomen with swords, more than you usually would. Soon enough, people will get bored and go back to playing how they normally do. And if they don't, well, get used to it.
When I played a round of arena as a demo and watched as a soldier iwth 1hp take me out (at full health), an engy, a pyro, and our medic, I laughed hard.
I think perhaps either the speed or the damage needs to be toned down, btu not both. I am leaning towards keeping the damage but no speed boost. Seriously, I went on a killing spree in 2fort, and all I would do is rocket myself til I was at 23 hp and just rush with the equalizer. Im sure that NOT how valve wanted the soldier to be played.
The bot interface in the sdk has been broken since release, this prevented the mod community from creating bots.
About a year and a half ago shows some signs of fixing it, even working with the author of the omnibot, who has created bots for many different games and mods.
He has been sitting on a competent bot since then (built on the fixed code), waiting for valve to release the fix.

Elephants are not human, yet I feel you'd be hard pressed to classify them as alien.
Ergo, not human != alien.

Load up a map and type in the console: sv_cheats 1
then type: nav_generate
It will take about a minute to generate. After that it will reload the map on its own. Then you add in the bots.
Note that there are no Spy or Scout bots. And engineers dont move their sentries to the next point during CP games.
