Ah, used to love Warhammer 40K back in the day. That armour looks even bulkier than I remember. Are they trying to 'outbulk' Gears of War?

Me and my friend discussed how a 40K MMO should go a while ago. Ideally it should be squad based, no one wants to see a load of lone marines running around or like a billion force commanders. Rather than controlling a single character you should have a squad of your own. Chapters should take the place of guilds in conventional MMOs, with their own colour scheme of course. Something would have to be put into place to prevent the Lightning Pink Happy Bunny marines from existing though. From there it gets iffy, how to manage vehicles? Dreadnoughts? Different unit types? How to get those in there while keeping the game true to the source.

Races are a big issue as well. 40k has about... 8, 9 differing factions? It'd be difficult to fit these all in and if you take the DoW approach of starting small and adding in then you're bound to disappoint some people. Not to mention balance and PVP. Pretty much everyone in 40k is opposed to everyone else. Outside of the clusterfuck that's the imperium everyone would have to be against everyone else. Would make PVP a nightmare to get perfect.

The source gives this the potential to be awesome in so many ways. Unfortunately it's counterbalanced by the amount of ways this could go so horribly wrong. Like making everyone play as Ultramarines (ick).

i just think they should make guilds mandatory. then the guild leader is the comander and the others are foot soildiers est.

Depends on where you are. I'm eating my lunch right now. There's a problem with that anyway. It'd give the guild leader too much power unfairly. Everyone would want to form their own guild just so they could be the commander.

It could either become the single greatest MMO if done right or the single most mediocre MMO laced with broken dreams(and not the kind that those Marines make).

One thing I remember people saying is that "Space Marines do not kill ten boars to get a leather armor". This lead me to think the game itself will start with you doing pretty heavy missions. There will be no 'wilderness' for grinding xp by killing random mobs; I think what you will find is a persistant battlefield with frontlines from the first level.

In fact, the game maybe more like Planetside than an RPG.

Steam is great if you keep your eye on it. Most of the time though it's okay at best, a lot of its prices aren't especially competitive when you can often get physical copies for less. If you watch it like a hawk though you can pick up some steals. Like the ridiculously priced Orange Box they had a while back, I think it was like £6?

I also picked up L4D2 from their 5day1day sales which was a decent price for a recently released game.

Interesting. I wonder why the publishers place the sales under NDA. I mean, I guess you could claim 'conspiracy to keep the PC man down!" but just as likely (if not more) it's possible they just do it to keep control over a set of numbers, particularly to shareholders. "Oh, we're still doing well on digital sales (take my word for it!)" seems like a potent ass-covering measure. It also has the added advantage of masking potential success from the competition, so they won't know what to copy. (In theory, anyway. Other retailers sure as hell don't have to put up with this NDA).

I'd like to hear some of the actual reasoning though.

Impulse is probably factoring in their software sales for things like Window Blinds 7. If you add in the corporate software and the games Impulse is clearly second. It all seems like corporate saber rattling to appease stockholders.

Now if they could set up a patch to stop allowing friends to join in-game.. the number of douchebags having their friends join the other team and then letting them kill them in the back of the map (infinitely respawning by Tactical Insertion) till they get nuke is increasing. At least on the console version..

@Edward Vella: Exactly. If it's not the campers ruining the game, it's the racists and bigots in the lobby that will. If I could buy the game only for the SP, I seriously would because from what I've seen and heard, it's amazing and I really enjoyed COD4's. The frustration of dealing with idiots online isn't worth the $60 to me.

@Super Violent St. Cannon- GOTY Edition: YES.. I hate COD and Halo's multiplayer because all you do is run, shoot, and die. There needs to be more games, or even A game, like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, where there's actually objectives and teamwork. Hopefully Battlefield Bad Company 2 will capitalize on that.

@mcgrathjo345: I think his argument is that just the single-player campaign alone isn't worth $60 to him. Also, the multiplayer doesn't allow him to justify the purchase, because it would be a ruined experience.

I think if he purchased the game, he wouldn't play multiplayer, but he still has to PAY for the multiplayer aspect of the game. So if he plays just the SP portion, he's paying for the full-game when he only actually wants half of the experience (and half is probably too generous from what I'm hearing).

    @Edward Vella:

MW2 acknowledges camping as a valid tactic. Tactical insertions allow you to quickly respawn by your spot, sentry guns allow you to set up an automated camper, or guard a blind spot, and heck, even care packages allow you to lure targets. Oh, and you can hide your position with silencers, cold-blooded, ninja, etc.

Similarly, MW2 gives plenty of tools to combat campers. Grenades, heartbeat sensors, and all of the various tools that allow you to hide your position as you approach a camper. And of course the killcam.

It's very easy to kill all but the most hardened camper if you're smart about it. After all, when you know the position of your target, your job is made easier.

Don't like campers? Kill them. As an occasional camper, one player can force me to stop camping fairly easily. If there's no profit in camping, why bother?

Oh, and on a related note, people who complain about camping on any mission types which involve defending a point...yeah, something's wrong with that complaint.
