Starting today, four retro Hudson games will be available for download as part of the "PC Engine Archives":

Mega Bomberman
Adventure Island
Sengoku Mahjong
Devil Crash

All of these titles are already available on Nintendo's Virtual Console. They're priced at ¥600 (SU$6.40) each on the PSN. Look forward to more TurboGrafx-16 games on the PlayStation Network in the future.

<![CDATA[Takahashi Meijin On Likelihood of Hudson Hardware Return...]]> Hudson Soft no longer makes video games consoles, but at one time, it did. Best known for the PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16), Hudson stepped out of the home hardware market it in 1999 in Japan. In the years that followed, the company was purchased by Japanese developer Konami. Hudson human mascot Takahashi Meijin tells game site Gamasutra that the company is not doing any type of chip development at the moment."Actually, two or three years ago, we made the chip for a Konami TV game product known as the Poem," Takahashi added, "You could use it to do things like play baseball on the TV." While there is no R&D at the present moment, Takahashi does not dash hopes at another handheld PC Engine:

There may be a possibility, because there are still two main programmers with the company.

Don't expect that any time soon or like ever, but hey, nice to see that those two main programmers are at Hudson. Loyalty is important.

<![CDATA[German-Speaking Nerds Arrested for PC Engine [Update]]]> Last month brought an endless flow of game pumpkins and the PC Engine's 20th anniversary. On October 30 twenty years ago, the PC Engine first went on sale in Japan. Three German speakers posted fliers and a birthday message on a Mandarake temporary construction barricade in Akihabara. The sign wished the ill-fated console a happy birthday, thanked NEC and Hudson and listed fan site PCE Daisakusen. The police appeared, asking if he worked for that company. One replied, "No, I'm a big PC Engine fan." The three were put in the patrol car and driven away from the scene. Hardcore. So let that be a lesson: Japan isn't your personal fanboy billboard! Just be happy with wearing gaming t-shirts!!

Eds Note: According to reader Marc: "At least the guy on the picture pointing to the poster is Swiss.
The mentioned site PCEDaisakusen was also initiated by Swiss people. Probably the German banner on PCEDaisakusen is confusing because we also speak German in Switzerland (one of the official languages):
Please give the right nerd nation credit and change the title, thanks.

<![CDATA[More Homoerotic Cho Aniki Action Coming]]> Both Famitsu and Dengeki are reporting that the long-running Cho Aniki series of side-scrolling shooters—famous for its homoerotic imagery and staple characters Samson and Adon—may have a new project in the works. The series last made an appearance on the PlayStation 2 in 2002 with Cho Aniki Seinaru Protein Densetsu.

Maker of fine Japanese amusement products Extreme recently launched a new Cho Aniki web site, with teaser imagery and.... that's about it.

As you can see, the "Super Big Brothers" of Cho Aniki are joined by two additional characters, an overly buff anime-coiffed male character and a well-stacked female character. These appear to be Itaden and Benten, stars of the original Cho Aniki game for the PC Engine. Could this mean a remake? A current generation sequel? A Virtual Console release for the Wii? Only time will tell!

<![CDATA[TGS 06: PS3 To Offer Downloadable Retro Games]]> Yesterday at Sony's TGS 06 conference, Ken Kutaragi announced that the Playstation 3 will allow you to download PC Engine and Genesis titles to your PS3.

You know, I'm really tempted to knock Sony for this one as another half-hearted grab at ticking off a feature on another console. But, really, every other console is now supporting downloads of retro games. Xbox Live's Arcade titles have predominantly been arcade ports — right now, their library of retro games looks weakest. Nintendo Wii, of course, will have the Virtual Console, which will offer a huge number of Nintendo and Sega titles.

If you like retro games and are some how morally opposed to emulation, this is all great news. It's hard to fault a company for offering it, even if you are suspicious of the quick slide into microtransactions. Then again, we haven't heard the price yet on these titles from Mr. Ken "Gran Turismo HD Will Cost $1,000" Kutaragi.
