Microsoft is aware of the issues that players are experiencing with the title update to “Ninja Gaiden II” and are currently working to resolve them with Tecmo/Team NINJA. Please stay tuned for a new update. We thank you for your patience!

There is currently no ETA for a new update. Their suggestion for the meantime? Clear your cache and play the game offline. Doing so will remove all game updates and disable the mission mode DLC, but you'll be able to complete the main game without locking up while we wait for further updates. Hit the jump for cache clearing instructions.

To clear cache:

- Go to the system blade and then select memory.

- Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X, X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X. Once you do this, a message will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices? Select yes.

A relatively simple fix for the issue, and really your only choice if you wish to complete the game before a new patch.

<![CDATA[ Ninja Gaiden II Mission Pack Take 2 ]]> Well TECMO and Microsoft did release their Ninja Gaiden II Mission Pack this past Friday as promised, which stealthily infiltrated players' games and killed them. Seems like a very ninja thing to do to me, but apparently users started getting a bit upset when their game started getting corruption errors after unlocking the first new achievement. The pack was pulled, but on top of that the title update that preceded the release is causing freezing during cutscenes. Luckily the folks at the Gamerscore Blog have some good news...

The team believes they have isolated and fixed the Mission Pack problem that some of you reported earlier this morning. They will continue to test it over the weekend and are hoping to get it back onto Marketplace on Monday. If you already downloaded the pack, go ahead and sign into LIVE. Your achievement should update allowing you to continue playing. The freezing issue is still being investigated.

...and some bad news. That's what you get for paying $60 to invite deadly killing machines into your home.

<![CDATA[ Rockstar Patches GTA IV ]]> Grand Theft Auto IV players logging in today for their daily fix will be greeted by a quick little patch that addresses several small issues in the game on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Highlights include increasing the frequency and reliability of leaderboard updates on the PS3 version, fixing Cops 'n Crooks so that players can no longer earn ridiculously high scores, and my personal favorite - fixing the countdown timer for multiplayer matches so it no longer resets every time a new player enters the game, causing the assembled players to call said newbie names I cannot repeat in this space.

Other than that, a few quick fixes to address hangs and such. Hit the link for the full skinny on the newly polished GTA IV experience.

<![CDATA[ Rockstar Patches GTA IV's PS3 Online Play ]]>

Rockstar Games just confirmed that they have released a patch for the Playstation 3 version of GTA IV which was causing issues with online play.

Rockstar Games has released a GTA IV patch for Playstation 3 today that prevents Gamespy’s servers from being overloaded and therefore reduces the impact on those servers that were causing the game to stutter and lock up. We continue to monitor the performance of the game both on and offline and will provide further updates as necessary. We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible. This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Looks like Microsoft's prep work for the game mostly paid off.

<![CDATA[ Sony Planning GTA IV PS3 Multiplayer Patch ]]> Sony and Rockstar sure have been mum about that PS3 GTA IV problems. The game's been locking up during play, making it, well, unplayable for some players, but not all. And hey, with six million copies sold in the first week, there's bound to be issues with some copies! Bad issues. Today, a Sony source confirmed that a multiplayer patch was being planned. Apparently it will reduce the load times and hangs some have been seen! No word on a single player GTA IV for PS3 patch or even for the Xbox 360 version which has been experiencing similar issues. This probably means one thing: Users who are fucked are still fucked.

<![CDATA[ Criterion Recalls 360 Burnout Bogart Update ]]> bogartpatch.jpg Criterion Games is in the process of recalling the recently released Bogart update for the Xbox 360 version of Burnout Paradise, with all updated version due to be rolled back by this Friday. The recall is due to a issue in the patch that cause the frame rate of the game to suffer, noticeably stuttering at high speed, which really are the only speeds in Burnout you need to concern yourself with. The patch is due to be reissued next week, with all of the promised fixes in place. Meanwhile the Criterion blog continues to count down to the PlayStation 3 release of the Bogart patch, slated for release tomorrow. Kudos to Criterion for rolling things back rather than having players suffer through issues while waiting for a patch for the patch.

<![CDATA[ Blizzard Unleashes Fury Of The Sunwell ]]> This morning I clicked on my World of Warcraft icon and was greeted with the impending download of the highly anticipated 2.4 patch, Fury of the Sunwell. The patch introduces us to Sunwell Isle, a brand new quest hub complete with new 5-man dungeons and a 25-man raid that gives players a chance to finally kick Kil'jaeden's sorry ass. As with any major WoW update, the patch notes are large and wordy, filled with stuff that only certain classes and professions will care about, so I'll just toss you a link to WorldofWar.net's note posting at the bottom of the article. Aside from the new dungeons, the most exciting thing I can see is learned spells not being reset with respecs, meaning that mages no longer have to rebuy their perk spell levels in addition to the cost of a respec. This pleases me. I'm sure this affects other casters as well, but they don't count.

<![CDATA[ Details On The Orange Box PS3 Patch You've Probably Already Downloaded ]]> tf2_spy_patch.jpgWhen EA released a new software update for the PlayStation 3 version of The Orange Box last night, it was annoyingly silent on what exactly had changed. Finally, the gang at has given up the info goods. But don't expect too much in the way of excitement, because as you know, new maps like Badlands and Well (CTF) for Team Fortress 2 weren't stashed within. It's mostly bug fixing, memory leak plugging and server connection smoothing—and almost all TF2 related. The full list of changes is after this.

Oh, and hold tight Europe. Your update is coming soon-ish.

* Fixed a graphical issue whereby a player would have the explosion effect left on the end of their Rocket Launcher when attempting to Rocket Jump.
* Fixed a memory leak to improve single player stability.
* Fixed an issue whereby the players name would not appear on the Stats comparison screen.
* We have fixed an issue that would cause the vote tallies to disappear when you viewed the scoreboard between rounds.
* Fixed an online server issue.
* Fixed an issue that caused a crash when a player that wasn't in Division 1 entered 'Your Leaderboards.
* Fixed an issue with players not always being added to the 'Players Met' menu on the XMB.

* Fixed an issue where it was not possible to connect to the EA servers if you had more than 30 friends.

<![CDATA[ The Orange Box Patched For PS3 ]]> OBPlayStation 3 owners who attempt to play their copies of The Orange Box tonight will be greeted with a required update, bringing the EA published collection to version 1.10. The 128 MB download unfortunately doesn't come with a changelog, nor can we find a shred of information on what's changed on the internet. Digging through Valve's Steam forums, EA's support site and game forums, and the official PlayStation web site have revealed nothing about the download. We're pestering EA to found out what's up.

During my initial play time with the new version, testing out Team Fortress 2, Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two, nothing was immediately noticeable, although connecting to a TF2 game did seem to be rather speedy.

<![CDATA[ Turok Teammate Killing Feature Patched Out ]]> Attempting to head off trouble at the pass, Turok developer Propaganda Games have announced that a patch will be disseminated that will change the controversial "Grab Bag" achievement. The achievement required payers to kill "at least 1 creature, 1 enemy, 1 teammate, and yourself" in a single online match and was hotly protested when it was announced. The resulting patch would remove the requirement of killing a teammate, leaving you only needing to kill "at least 1 creature, 1 enemy and yourself."

Many were understandably upset by the thought of having to kill a team member and while originally Propaganda expected to deploy the patch if it became an issue they seem to have had a change of heart and the fix will be available for download on the same day the game is released (Feb. 5). Although the PS3 version doesn't have "achievements" as such, it does have a similar rewards system that will be fixed by the patch as well as adding support for rumble.

As far as I know, this is the first time an achievement has been changed due to public outcry. I think it shows an incredible progression in the maturity level of gamers as a whole that people would stand together against this kind of issue. It's situations like this that will hopefully change the negative perception that the much of the general populace has about gamers. A little self-policing goes a long way.

<![CDATA[ The Unofficial Crecente Fanclub Patch ]]> 4223.jpgI never thought that our own commander and chief Brian Crecente resembled Kenji Harima from the anime series School Rumble (granted, I'd never seen the show before this post), but at least one patch-maker feels differently. Because this "School Rumble Harima Patch" from Great Eastern Entertainment might as well be renamed "Offical Badge of the Crecenteteers" and come along with quarterly newsletters with updates on the big BC himself (what are his dreams, tastes in music and biggest pet peeves on a first date?)

If only the little sewn man were wearing a bird on his shirt, Crecente could have some sort of a case during litigation. As for now he'll have to settle for something like unlimited anime patches that look like him, which while not a bad prize (hell, sounds great to me), won't put little Tristen through four years at Harvard.

<![CDATA[ The EVE Online BOOT.INI Problem Explained ]]> evetrinitylogo.jpgBack on the sixth, popular space MMO EVE Online released their Trinity update, which added an all-new (and quite dazzling) graphics engine, with the unfortunate side-effect of deleting some XP users' BOOT.INI file, effectively stopping their PC from booting. While a "We're so sorry" and a fix would have sufficed, the director of the EVE Online software group Dr. Erlendur S. Thorsteinsson has posted a dev blog explaining the bug in great detail, from origin to fix to helping customers get their PCs up and running again by calling in external tech support like the Geek Squad. While the explanation basically amounts to irresponsibility on the team's part and lack of diverse hardware - which is really inexcusable - CCP showed some real class in fixing the issue, which could explain why they have a fan base so loyal they actually fly to Reykjavík, Iceland to hang out with them.

<![CDATA[ Valve Planning Team Fortress 2 Updates, DLC Maps ]]> Team Fortress 2 players may be getting a Valve-wrapped Christmas gift as the Xbox 360 version is expected to receive a new patch addressing player concerns. According to an e-mail passed on to us by reader Shamrock, the update "fixes several game-play exploits, improves bandwidth usage, improves stats reporting, and fixes some menu bugs." The juicier news is that PC users should see new maps for TF2 rolling out in the next year, with those maps being offered as bundled downloadable content. One of those maps, according to the forwarded e-mail from a Valve rep, is currently in testing.

Thanks for the heads up, Shamrock. See you in the Gravel Pit.

<![CDATA[ Rock Band Fix For Guitar Hero III PS3 Controllers Coming ]]> The Harmonix community manager writes at the official Rock Band forums that a routine patch for the PlayStation 3 version of the game is coming soon, one that will address "a number of items related to guitar controller compatibility." The patch was expected to be released yesterday, but unspecified circumstances have delayed the software update. While not officially confirmed, it's assumed that this is in reference to adding support for Guitar Hero III Les Paul controllers. Good news for PS3 Rock Band owners who are sorely in need of a bassist, bad news for those who bought the PlayStation 2 version of Guitar Hero III because they didn't see the point in buying another guitar controller. I am, of course, referring to myself, and regretting my lack of foresight on the matter.

<![CDATA[ Bioshock - Wider Is Better ]]> Back when it was first revealed that BioShock developers had made some very odd widescreen choices, cropping the standard 4::3 mode instead of starting with widescreen and cropping to achieve standard, many people called 'no big deal' on the situation. Now that the Xbox 360 patch has dropped adding true widescreen, Videogamer.com has posted comparison shots of old widescreen versus new, and the difference is amazing. I'd daresay owners of the game might want to play through it again to get the full experience of BioShock in really-real widescreen. Hit the link for more comparison shots.

<![CDATA[ WoW Patches To 2.3, Fixes Dustwallow ]]> wowpatch.jpgWorld of Warcraft players rejoice - Dustwallow Marsh doesn't suck as much anymore! Oh sure, you might be more excited about the other changes going live today with patch 2.3, such as the introduction of guild banks so we can free up those bank character slots, or the new 10-man level 70 dungeon of Zul'Aman in the Ghostlands. They've made it easier to level from 20 to 60, which makes no sense whatsoever. My 70 warrior roommate informs me that Warrior DPS got a significant boost in this patch as well, meaning I won't be seeing her for a few weeks. Tons of sweeping changes across all classes abound, but I am most excited about Dustwallow. Man that place sucked. You had the witch's hut, Onyxia, and the dragon for the UBRS key quest, and that was pretty much it. Now there's a new Goblin town and over 50 new quests in the area. Could it be time for me to restart my subscription again?

<![CDATA[ Resistance Patch Arrives, Adds Full DualShock 3 Fun ]]> The latest patch for Insomniac Games' Resistance: Fall of Man hits today, bringing with a host of new features. Included in "Patch 6" is rumble via the still unreleased DualShock 3 for both single and multiplayer games. Also new is the ability to take screen shots with a USB keyboard, with snaps saved to the Cross Media Bar's photo section. Password protected custom game options have also been added. In addition, there's a ton of new features that will probably only appeal to longtime online players, plus the usual bug fixes and balance changes.

The full list of changes in the latest patch is after the jump, courtesy of Insomniac's James Stevenson, a man who simply cannot be faulted for his gaming blog preference.

New Features
- Player with a USB keyboard attached to their Playstation 3 may now take in-game screenshots by pressing the "printscreen" key (multiplayer only). There will be a slight pause as the screenshot is taken. The screenshots will be viewable from the Photo bar of the XMB menu.
- Players may now create a custom game that requires a password for other players to join. When creating a custom game, select the option named "password" and enter the desired password from the on-screen keyboard. Players who are invited into a password protected game by another player already in the game do not need to enter a password to accept the invite. Password protected games will be indicated by a "lock" icon next to the game name in the "Find Game" screen.
- Bullseye Tags may be turned off as a custom game option without turning off the bullseye.
- Carbine 40mm Grenades may be turned off as a custom game option without turning off the carbine.
- There is a new game option named "Send Voice Chat To All". If this is enabled, then all players in the game may hear voice chat sent from any other player in the game, including players on the opposing team and spectators. Squad voice chat will still only be heard by members of the same squad. This option defaults to off.
- The game option "Round balancing" now has a third option available to custom games - "Aggressive". If round balancing is set to aggressive, it will attempt to rebalance the teams every round based on how well the players scored in the previous round to create the most even teams. "Aggressive" round balancing WILL split parties.
- Both Multiplayer and Singleplayer Resistance: Fall of Man now support the rumble feature of the Playstation Dual Shock 3 controller.

Balance Changes
- Range and damage on the Rossmore 236 has been decreased for both primary and secondary fire modes
- Reload time of the LAARK L209 has been increased.
- Projectile speed of the LAARK L209 has been decreased.
- Splash damage radius of the LAARK L209 has been decreased.
- Hedgehog grenade splash damage has been generally increased, although the radius in which it will kill a player in 1 hit has been decreased.
- Frag grenade splash damage radius has been decreased.
- Arc charger fire rate has been increased.
- Arc charger clip size has been reduced.
- Arc charger damage has been decreased for the primary fire and increased for the secondary fire.
- Rate of fire the bullseye tag (secondary fire) has been decreased.

Bug Fixes
- Fixed several possible collision exploits
- The "Elite Soldier" and "Assassin" medals are now obtainable in all ranked gametypes instead of just Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch
- "Defender" ribbons obtained in ranked CTF games will now correctly add to your total stats
- Fixed several issues that could cause party members to drop out of a party
- Various lobby, disconnect, and miscellaneous fixes.

<![CDATA[ MotorStorm 3.0 Patch Coming, Adds DualShock 3 Fun ]]> The latest software upgrade for MotorStorm should be available for European customers, according to a recent posting on the Official PlayStation Community forums. Version 3.0 brings with it a number of new features and fixes, including support for the DualShock 3. Other notable patch features include sensitivity settings for SIXAXIS control schemes, a new "Gloating Index" and changes to positioning rules for online races.

The full list of tweaks and twists is after the jump, but I'll save you the Ctrl + F "fixed loading times." There's no mention of less than unbearable vehicle selection speeds.

* Added vibration support for DUALSHOCK 3 controller with adjustable sensitivity settings.
* Grid order has been randomised for first race in any online lobby.
* Finishing positions in your last race now determine your starting grid position in the next race within the same online lobby.
* On-screen indicator has been added to show whether voice comms are issuing from TV or headset - As before, please press and hold L1 (R1 if using control scheme 'B') to toggle headset output through TV or Headset.
* Sensitivity Settings for SIXAXIS™ Motion Sensor control have been added.
* 'Gloating Index' has been added to the Stats card - The Gloating index gives guidance as to a racer's online prowess. It takes into account the number of people you've beaten in each race and the number of people that have beaten you. Use the gloating index to spot the players to beat in each race! Try and rank your Gloating Index up to the perfect '10'!
* Several causes for an occasional snagging issue which would destroy vehicles on suspension impact have been addressed.
* Further fixes to prevent the occasional statistics reset issue have been applied.
* Fixed an occasional issue with inaccuracies in Eliminator finishing results.
* Fixed an issue where winners leaving Eliminator before race completed could cause issues for other players in lobby.

<![CDATA[ Warhawk Stability Patch Hits Tomorrow ]]> warhlogo.jpg

Word has it that a Warhawk patch will be hitting tomorrow for those lucky enough to be beta testing the PS3 online-only game.

The new version, while still a bit buggy (beta and all), will focus primarily on stability and a few other changes. Specifically the patch will improve client release, making it a smoother disconnect if clients if they leave, disconnect or crash. The patch also changes the way people can use the VOIP, thank god. Now players will have to press L3 to open a chat channel and release L3 to close one. Finally, I won't have to start every match by muting everyone.

There's not specific time for one the patch will be hitting Friday it could be as early as the afternoon or as late as the evening. Sweet.

<![CDATA[ WoW Gets More Difficult Post-Patch ]]> bloodelves-800x.jpg
For those of you who recently downloaded the World of Warcraft patch and are having difficulty killing things, well, let's just say it's about to really hit the fan for those of you not in super guild. A European guild called Nilhuim has already had success in taking down mega-boss Illidan yesterday, and Blizzard has decided to up the difficulty level by making it hurt more when the bigger monsters take a chunk out of your character. According to Blizzard designer, Daleo, who posted in one of WoW's official forums:

Our intent is not to make the encounters impossible. Even with the increased difficulty, I do expect some of them to be quickly beaten again after guilds experience the changes and adapt.

It's going to be a real survival of the fittest from now on, so get your Darwin bumper stickers ready on that station wagon called Warcraft, because it's going to be a long trip.

Mad Tracks, the new racing game that turned up recently on Xbox Live Arcade, has been having some troubles as of late. Players who downloaded the trial version and then upgraded to the full version experienced problems unlocking the mini-games and various other racetracks. Game developer, Slyben, has already burned the midnight oil and made a patch to fix the issues and delivered it to Microsoft. If you were one of the unfortunate ons that this happened to, keep your eyes peeled for the new patch which should be made available as soon as the great MS deems it ready to roll out.
