Kotaku reader Eric's papercraft big head mode version of himself makes normal Eric equally cool and creepy.

Eric doesn't pull off any flaming NBA Jam-style dunks in his Flickr photo gallery, but he does have some stunning and surreal photos of the big head mode mask. In both wearable action and creation, rarely have I been so jealous of someone's Halloween idea.

Of course, Eric's got the right resume for modeling polygonal heads, having worked for EA, Black Box and Deep Fried Entertainment, modeling characters for games like Def Jam Vendetta, Need for Speed, NBA Live and much much more.

More photos at Eric's Flickr, with a little "making of" technical detail at his personal site.

<![CDATA[Papercraft Link is Enormous, Lifelike]]> Are there plans and printouts for this life-size Link? You bet there are. There are also plans on the Internet for atomic weapons - doesn't mean I could build one of those either.

Holy Hyrule this thing defies words. Haywan of PaperCraft Museum is responsible for this. Looks like it even has a detachable shield and sword (and scabbard?) - and heck, that makes the plans worth a try by themselves. (It could be the creator photographed himself playing with them before affixing them to the model.)

There are more pics in the gallery, even more at the link. Check them out, they're chock full of awesome.

<![CDATA[Dreamcast, NES Ported to Papercraft]]> Sure, they don't work, but these cardboard consoles definitely start more conversations. Best part, you don't even need tape or glue. Thicker paper is recommended, as is a nice printer that can handle 150dpi printouts.

You don't technically even need color, like these old-school pals. (There is a little bit of red, in the logos; and some color elsewhere.)

Unfortunately, no papercraft game pads are included with these two designs, put up by Cubeecraft.

<![CDATA[Killzone 2 Rewards In-Game Discovery With Real-World Stuff]]> Like every other shooter on the market, Killzone 2 features things that are hidden. Where Killzone 2 differs from the rest, however, is that your rewards for findings these are tangible.

How's this work? When you find in-game Helghast intel files, you can then visit the game's website and redeem real-world bonus items. Some of these are hi-res, print-quality versions of in-game posters (which you can then, obviously, print out), some are random crap like Helghast wildlife files, while others take the form of papercraft.

Yup, Killzone papercraft. Pictured above. Won't win any awards for cuteness, and looking at those handrails, won't win any awards for accessibility, either, but it's still a neat piece of marketing.

<![CDATA[You'll Need Teamwork To Finish This Left 4 Dead Tank]]> Left 4 Dead is scary. Paper? Not so scary. But paper folded to appear as though the paper takes the form of Left 4 Dead's scariest bad guy, THE TANK? OK. That's...scary enough.

You can download a pack containing the outlines and instructions here.

<![CDATA[In Which Zelda Papercraft Reaches New Heights]]> Yes. That's papercraft. A papercraft hat. A papercraft Zelda hat, complete with floppy green bit, moppish blonde hair and polygonal stylings. And it's wearable.

Before you reach for the PRINT button, know that it'll take 12 pages to get the lot of it. Also know that once you combine papercraft and cosplay in the single item, you can never return to the ranks of normal society.

<![CDATA[Retro Consoles Return As Adorable Papercraft]]> Thanks, Marshall Alexander! Were it not for your heart-meltingly cute papercraft renditions of 70s/80s game machines, we don't know how we would have made it through Monday. But make it we did, clutching that little C64 to our hearts all day long. Hit the link below for the papercraft templates in question.

<![CDATA[Gunpei Yokoi Remembered In Papercraft]]> This is a papercraft model of Nintendo's own late, great Gunpei Yokoi. Considering the amount of papercraft we see that's devoted to Nintendo characters, it's a strangely fitting tribute to the father of the Game & Watch, Game Boy, Metroid and Kid Icarus. Click through for the full, downloadable template, which is courtesy of Raccoon Sam.

<![CDATA[Super Papercraft Mario: The Hat!]]> If you're looking for something to do with your Wednesday night's wee hours, perhaps the pasting together of dozens of pieces of paper to form a DIY Mario cap will do the trick. This is papercraft not for the faint of heart, but one of the rare wearable pieces of video game papercraft that we've seen in our travels on the internet. Should you have the patience to download the PDFs and the printer ink to power through, be sure to tip us with your creation. We'd love to see the soul brave enough to take this project on.

<![CDATA[Papercraft Half Life D0g is Amazle]]> Reader Metal Dom found this on 4chan — a 12-inch high, incredibly detailed papercraft model of D0g, from Half Life. 4chan user chamoo232 assembled it, said it took two weeks and nearly 50 hours of work. The pose captures D0g's lumbering, bucket-of-bolts gait and rip-your-arms-off awesomeness. Win. Several more pics at the link, which, I'm aware is 4chan, but /po/ is not at all like /b/, so don't worry about what you'll see.

<![CDATA[Build Your Own Braid Papercraft]]> Like Braid? Like printing things out, cutting them up and then folding them together again? Do you also like cute characters with slightly-too-big square heads?

Never have these three interests been more closely aligned that in Cubeecraft.com's Braid Papercraft page.

Cubeecraft has color JPG files to print out that contain foldable 3D models of Braid's lead character, Tim and, er, one of the monster things. I don't know what they are called. Answers in the comments.

No glue is required, just scissors, patience and a significant other who won't leave you if you decorate the house with characters from innovative platform games. As Meatloaf would say, two out of three ain't bad.

<![CDATA[The Inevitable, Adorable GTA IV Papercraft]]> Oh, hi tubbypaws! You guys remember tubbypaws, right? She's a whiz with the ol' papercraft, able to turn even the most adult and depressing of titles into bright and wonderful dioramas. This is her latest work, and yes, it's GTA IV, complete with cute little paper Niko, cute little paper buildings and cute little train whizzing by on cute little paper tracks. Should bring a much-needed pinch of levity to GTA IV's murder n' drugs-heavy stew.

<![CDATA[Portal Turret Papercraft]]> Confession: I've never actually assembled one of the papercraft printouts—I did glue together about half a robot once before becoming violently ill with laziness—but I'm almost considering taking a go at these Portal turrets.

Confession 2:
By "considering" making these turrets, I really mean "lightly toying with the idea."

Confession 3
: By "lightly toying with the idea," I really mean there's no way in hell this is happening. I don't even have paper, glue or anything. Right now I'm typing on a pile of rocks fashioned into a QWERTY arrangement. I have no clue if you want even read this.

<![CDATA[Papercraft: Dragon Quest Mimic]]> It's been a while since our last papercraft and given the slow post GDC weekend I figured it would be a good time to pull out some cardstock and get our craft on. This week's offering comes from that bastion of papercraftery, Paperkraft.net. The model is of a Mimic chest from Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. These feisty little guys like to disguise themselves as treasure chests and when you go to open them, they launch their attack. This is a fairly simple model for those of you just getting started in the fine art papercraft. For our more experienced crafters, you might try these Chromehound models.

<![CDATA[GTA Papercraft]]> Ah, Tubbypaws. Few are able to delight us so with naught but a few pieces of coloured paper and some folding instructions. You've seen her Silent Hill and Portal papercrafts, now see her Vice City tribute, complete with little square Tommy Vercetti and three cars that he'll never be able to steal thanks to his poor, fat little head. Unless you make alterations on the design, that is, which you can find below.

<![CDATA[The Mario Birthday Party You Wish You Had]]> I was impressed and a wee bit jealous last year when I posted about four year old George's Mario themed birthday party but these photos from Ethan's Mario/Video Game themed party have left me longing for the days when I could have a cool themed birthday party without people looking askance. An awesomely decorated cupcake table (above), Mario and Luigi papercraft favors, homemade Boo and Kirby pinatas, Mario and Luigi hats, a Yoshi Egg Hunt and a tastefully and detailed decorated back yard. If only cool stuff like that had been available when we were kids we might have been spared the horrors of party clowns.

<![CDATA[The Cutest Silent Hill Papercraft]]> From Tubbypaws who brought you such memorable paper models as The Cutest Portal Papercraft, comes the Cutest Silent Hill Papercraft. It features Officer Cybil Bennet about to have a run in with one Silent Hill's ubiquitous nurses. The artist describes it as:

A blocky 3D paper fun model tribute to the foggy fog game, the second one, the one with the pillow.

I love this model (especially the flashlight light on the floor...genius touch) and will be putting it together for my desk, but if Tubbypaws would create a little blocky Pyramid Head add-on (sold separately), this would be about the greatest papercraft ever made.

<![CDATA[Papercraft: Master Chief]]>
It's been a while since I posted a good papercraft and this one definitely deserves the spotlight. Artist (and presumably Halo fan) Mike McDermott created and put together this really amazing Master Chief papercraft model using PePaKuRa, a program that creates paper model patterns from 3D model information.
He stands an impressive 13" tall and is made up of 42 pieces. Not a model for the faint of heart! You can download instructions and patterns on Mike's DeviantArt page. Now you'll have something to do until the game comes out. (Note: This is not part of the Halo 3 hype machine but merely a really excellent papercraft)

<![CDATA[Get Your Warhawk Papercraft On]]> screen003.jpg Reader David S., knowing we here at Kotaku go through periods of fondness for papercraft, passed on the tidbit that the Warhawk website is now offering papercraft for your downloading and putting together pleasure. First up is the Eucadian Warhawk, with promises of more patterns and instructions in the coming weeks.

I've always liked the little scale models of machinery and weaponry from games, but my crafting prowess is confined to embroidery and quilting. Perhaps if any Kotakuites make the effort to put this one together, you can let us know how it turns out.
