Paint ]]> Have you ever just looked at the Super Mario Bros. box art? I mean, really looked at it until it made some sort of sense? Why is Mario leaping over a lake of lava while tossing fireballs at a wall—the same wall, I should mention, that he's actually leaping into? Did the art department screw up? Where they read "wall" were they meant to read "Bowser?" Where they painted blue blocks were they meant to paint green scales?

The world may never know, but feel free to ponder the question over this oil painting. It's deep because it's oil painting.

<![CDATA[ Incredible Samus 16-Bit Painting ]]> Kotakuite the-hypnotoad toiled for months on this truly incredible 16 bit Samus painting. It is approximately three feet tall and stands watch over his desk. I've seen quite a few pixel paintings in my time and none of them comes even close to this. No decals here folk, that's all hand painted. Amazing work, the-hypnotoad! Make the jump to check out a nice close-up of the work.

<![CDATA[ Bob Ross Painting Game In Danger?! ]]>

According to Gamespot's latest Rumor Control based on a Play-Nintendo report, the mysterious Bob Ross painting game planned for release on the Nintendo DS, Wii, and PC, may have hit a snag on the road to store shelves. Until recently under development at AGFRAG Entertainment Group, it appears that Bob Ross Inc. may have pulled either the plug or moved development duties to another resource.

A statement from the AGFRAG official site reads:

I'm sorry that we have disappointed so many people on a certain project. Please realize we did what we felt was best, with the cards that were dealt to us and the situation we were in. We have learned from the experience and we won't make the same mistakes twice. The companies we dealt with were professional in every way and we enjoyed working with them while we did and appreciated the opportunities they presented to us.

AGFRAG's Joseph Hatcher told Gamespot "We are not saying it is canceled in anyway", so afro and landscape fans can keep the torch burning.

This was a project I was looking forward to, so if this change in hands is for the right reasons, maybe this will ultimately be positive news. I could definitely use a Bob Ross Joy of Painting chill-out game (or non-game) and hope that development continues.

Wii, DS, PC Bob Ross game dries up?

<![CDATA[ Metroid Mario Painting Mash-Up ]]> Jim from the Daily Drawing sent us this awesome mash-up painting he did of two of Nintendo's very best, Mario and Metroid. This would make a completely awesome tat.

Having attended a little art college in my time, stuff like this never ceases to remind me what a colossal waste of my time and my parents' money that venture was.

<![CDATA[ Mario Bros. Leave Plumbing For Painting ]]>

Details are scant, but you know what, this somehow all makes sense. Overalls and pipes don't make one a plumber. But a Harley shirt, toothy grin and scraggly beard just scream house painter.

<![CDATA[ Works of Great and Terrible Genius: Nightmarish Super Mario Bros. Painting ]]> The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser.

This creepy — hell, truly nightmarish — Super Mario Bros. image briefly went up on Imageshack recently, then was just as quickly pulled down for bandwidth usage thanks to the Digg Storm it kicked up. I am posting it again for posterity, as all works of great and terrible genius deserve. I only wish it were more horizontally framed, so as to be suitable for a desktop. Does anyone have a link to the artist's web site?

<![CDATA[ Zelda: Four Swords Pixel Painting ]]>

This is cute. As to the indelible artistic permanence of such a piece, we won't speak, but I'm strangely tempted to pay the $30 bucks the bidder wants for this Nintendo Zelda Four Swords Pixel Painting on eBay. I'm sure one of you guys will beat me to it though.

<![CDATA[ Super Mario Wall Socket, Perfect for Prodding! ]]>

The improbably spelled Matte Morgan sent us this cool picture of a fire spitting Mario he painted on a power plug.

I just moved in with my girlfriend &her kids. To make my self feel more at home I painted one of the power plugs plates in the kitchen, (my girl friend just painted the kitchen) It is the plug that I use for my coffee grinder in the mornings after I wake up, so its nice to see something that cheers me up first thing in the morning. Its not the greatest paintings , but I gonna do another more in tune to The New Super Marios Bros., I just picked it up and it inspired me.

Great job, Matte! Remember: painting talent is not necessary to make something cool looking. Also, we love the entire idea! Moving into a house full of small children? Why not make those power sockets even more attractive to the exploration of their prodding fingers and tongues?
