To those thinking of getting it - I'd hold off a while. I got it today and the performance in it was pretty bad. The visuals are very dated and the game is still fairly buggy. I'd wait until they can optimise and patch it a bit before throwing your hard earned money donw on it like I did.
@-MasterDex-: Reports i`ve read state that it runs much better than arma 1 and arma 1 runs like shit off a shovel on my pc.I`ll get back to you on the visuals when the postal service decides to get off their arses and actually deliver my copy but hd videos of gameplay from german players shows better visuals than arma 1 so i dunno what`s happening with you.
@UFO:Lol, No _>. the visuals aren't pure crap but they are dated. The motion blur is the worst I've seen, luckily, there's a mod out already to get rid of it (no option in-game). Also, force V-sync off from your gfx control panel, helps performance a lot.
I think my biggest gripe with the looks is how jaggy it is. The fillrate method for edge-smoothing is really heavy on processing and there's no standard AA option (although I heard that they'll be adding it in with a later patch.)
It's not a ruined game but I thought it wise to let people know that they're better off waiting a while if they don't want to go through the hassles of bugs and bad performance
I hated the original Operation Flashpoint. The enemies were so cheap. The range-finder on the first-person display would show the enemy at 400 yards away, they would look like a tiny little dot at that range, and yet they had absolutely no problem hitting me every time. I was constantly getting gunned down by a person I couldn't even see half a mile away who was holding an AK-74.
@PsycheE: I remember trying to play the demo that came in the CGW and couldn't even properly fly the helicopter. I remember reading about it in the same magazine and seemed to be much more complex then Desert Combat mod or any of the earlier BF series. Can it translate into a console?, or it another gimped Fuels of War.
@PsycheE: To your credit though, flying the helicopter was one of the hardest tasks in the game. I doubt very much it could translate to a console at all - but that's not to say by streamlining the game it's going to suck. Sure, it probably won't live up to the standards of realism set by the original, but that said I can't really see the audience it's now aiming for wanting that kind of realism anyway. Getting shot by a sniper from 2km away after you've crawled for an hour through bushes isn't most peoples idea of fun. It is for some people though, and those people certainly have the right to be annoyed at what is almost inevitably going to be a console-centric sequel.
That said, maybe I should actually wait to play the demo before making so many assumptions about how the game will turn out.

I knew long ago because I knew someone who was really into OFP.
Makes no difference to me though since while I respected it as a sim, I couldn't figure out where the fun was in it. I'd run around a bit, sometimes get into a firefight and if I was behind cover, I'd miraculously survive scrolling through the hugeass cluttered popup menu to reload my gun. Most of the time though, I'd run up to a truck or something, pull up a massive popup menu, start scrolling towards "Enter truck" and get one-shotted by some guy a mile and a half away.
Interestingly enough, I am looking forward to both Operation Flashpoint 2 and ArmA 2. If they both turn out to be quality titles, then it is like a two-for-one sale or something.
Don't worry BIS, the old faithful simmers aren't easily deceived, and most of us are doing their part in making the newcomers well aware of Codemasters deception.
Plus Codemasters are hanging themselfs with so many target render images and videos. Its allready bitting them in the ass with the release of the first in-game images with sub par quality.
They can't deliver on what they promised, not at the required scale for a sim bearing the OFP trademark.
Its called Operation Flashpoint 1 And ArmA: Armed Assault
You can have a 64 man CO-OP, yes you heard right, a 64 man co-op. The map for ArmA and ArmA 2 is around 30 miles plus long, I dont remember exactly. Its meant to be a war simulator of epic scales. My clan has roughly 30 people and the missions we make will involve entire squads of helicopters, tanks, and infantry all in one mission working in unison.
@Kocrachon: Ahh, I see. My bad. With the slew of co-op modes nowadays and the small number of players they accomodate, I didn't think a game as old as OF or ArmA would have a superior co-op mode.
4 players should still be plenty of room for the everyday man though.

After the onslaught of FPS games this past year, I'm spent.

This will be their undoing.
I'm eagerly waiting for the release of ARMA II
Have a good one.

Originally I read BIS as Black Isle Studios. Seems that Operation Flashpoint fans are going to feel like a good number of Fallout fans...

Both OFP2 and ArmA 2 will likely have my money at some point, but OFP2 reducing co-op to only 4 players on the PC is a bit of a joke.
