"The Client and Host shooting are now synchronised. The client will no longer empty a magazine into a player and not killing him."
- I tried playing MP on PC a couple of times, and was cursing furiously because no-matter how many times I was shooting guys, it seemed to do no damage and I never got one kill. Meanwhile, I died approximately every 7 seconds.
So, yeah, being able to actually kill guys in MP would be a hell of a fix. Jesus fucking Christ. Did nobody test the fucking game before they released it? #operationflashpointdragonrisin...
Let's hope that title update makes the game's multiplayer functional... among other things.
Also, what's realistic about a bunch of vehicles that control like they have ice skates instead on wheels, and why, if Im a freaking driver, can I not look around from the characters pov while driving?
Sooooo realistic. My entire reason for wanting this game was the vehicles, only to find when purchased that they all control like garbage. Shame. There's lots to like in the game despite it's flaws, but if they can't ge the core gameplay experience ironed out, why the hell would they expect anyone to shell out for DLC?
They need to focus on fixing the game up better before they try and pump me for more cash. The game has so much potential but it is spoilt by a lack of quality foound within the game. #operationflashpointdragonrisin...
Also according to what other folks on a different forum I frequent say another unfortunate feature is not being able to customize ones loadout before missions. Which should be a pretty important claim due to it would have added a new level of team work having folks being able to properly equip themselves before a mission. Instead of the current cookie cutter system and you are forced to go look for crates in the level instead.
I really liked this game. I'll dub it a strategy shooter. I played on ps3. while i do wish it was 1080p, i didn't have people popping in and out on the horizon. The draw distance was great and the scope of the environment pulled me in. I didn't consider the difficulty to be brutal either. If an enemy finds you before you were aware of what you were running into, that's always going to hurt. It's about the situations you get yourself into. Save points were ok and only the last level had (as i noticed) 20 min between check points. I really liked this game and wished the campaign was longer with more difficult situations.
Stuff i didn't like:
---Driving the vehicles SUcks. BF1943 does a better job. I'm talking about traction and steering.
---AI is just ok. NOT really great. Good for backup but not for much more. Enemy AI is decent though i did find a guy or two that should've known i was coming.
---Online just has a bs system. It's hard to find a game and I am Forever refreshing and still getting rejected from games. i just kept hitting ranked game, quick game to get into something for sure.
---I understand that for realism it takes time to change weapons but the 'system' adds delays too. If you pull out a rocket launcher and start getting shot at, TOO BAD, wait for the animation to finish before you can move or start taking out your rifle.
---not enough carnage, air strikes, or "the horror of war" ( i didn't feel it, i thought my way through it) i was really hoping to kill a bunch of people in an attack helicopter.
The writing? I guess I'm like a soldier. Just set the stage and tell me what to. The rest is paint.
I thought we learned from END WAR. WHERE ARE THE VOICE COMMANDS? that system rocks!
@zaboo: Actually, no it's not. Clearly, you never actually played through the game... or just have no proper context. For a shooter, Modern Warfare was extremely powerful. Doing my damndest to dodge spoilers here.

@Dangeresque: Kojima-san doesn't have to make Metal Gear any more: It's good for what it is, but I wouldn't use either "evocative" or "interesting" to describe it. Call of Duty has top notch presentation. That doesn't change the fact that the actual story is fairly generic.
And this is coming from someone who only really plays Call of Duty for the single player.

@Dangeresque: Kojima-san doesn't have to make Metal Gear any more: For a shooter it might of been "evocative and interesting" but I think that speaks more about the genre than it does about the game.
If Modern Warfare was say a movie it would be a big budget action flick (I mean think about it: terrorists, special forces team, a weapon of mass destruction) and it would be panned by critics for stock characters and an uninteresting and predictable storyline.
@Sir-Lucius does anything for Dethklok: Well, I still say it's an eye of the beholder thing. I wanna actually MAKE my point, so MEGA SPOILER WARNING FOR COD4. There, it's out of the way... I think games that are willing to kill their main (or at least, joint main) character and continue the game without him are few and far between. Hell, the one game I can think of off the top of my head that did so, Chrono Trigger, has a way to bring Crono back. There is no bringing Paul Jackson back. There is a whole level to demonstrate just how dead he is, as he staggers through the crater of the nuke, and then collapses.
It doesn't necessarily have any astonishing character development or storyline, but the events that make up the game are very, very powerful.

@zlarm: This is a fair point. The shooter genre has long suffered from poor plot, characters, and more. I think, though, it's not an entirely fair comparison. (Moar spoilers) I don't think the film medium can properly capture the feeling of controlling a half-dead Marine as he staggers through an irradiated wasteland, only to finally collapse and die.

@zaboo: I thought the storyline was pretty meh too.
It suffered from the same syndrome that affects most generic war movies where they throw a bunch of characters at you that sort of all look and feel the same so they don't really stand out (except for Price of course).
Also some people make a big deal about how...
*SPOILER WARNINGZ YO!*
the American character you play as dies at the end of the story's first act. But for me it wasn't really a big deal since, for all I cared, they just killed a camera I was looking through.
I felt no connection to Jackson or Soap as characters, and didn't really feel like I was inhabiting either of them.
I understand that they make both avatars essentially blank slates so you can project yourself into them, ala Half-Life and many other FPS, but there weren't enough story/character moments to make me feel personally vested in the shoes of the people I was walking in or part of the cast of characters they surrounded me with.
I really wouldn't mind if they abandoned that approach and just gave Soap his own dialog, voice actor, and backstory (assuming that they intend for him to be the protagonist for the series).
I appreciate the cinematic route they took with the storyline though, but it hardly holds up to the level of speculative politicking that you find in the Tom Clancy games, the philosophizing of Metal Gear Solid series, or even the sheer drama of the films they were trying to emulate.
Actually it would be cool if they could enlist a pro-writer to script a storyline for the next installment. Especially since, going back to the Tom Clancy comparison, it looks like with MW2 they are going to be creating sort of an alt-history universe, which could be really fun, exciting, and open up new possibilities for the franchise.
It wasn't like he had a back story. You never saw him grow as a character. He doesn't have any dialogue. You don't even see his face. How do you empathize with a character like that? Ok, he died. And...? You just continued with the game like nothing had happened. It was well presented, but it was a generic story.
@zaboo: I agree, thats why i'm not a COD fanboy, each title is always the same, your boxed in set on a path and things are triggered. With games like OPF and BF you choose how you want to attack, and where. It's one of the few games where you can play the same level over and over, and take a different path each time.
@Witzbold: Have fun playing Witz! A friend of mine was looking forward to this. I wonder if he ended up disappointed (like the review seems to have implied).
I don't know about the other people playing this game on the PC, but the amount of bugs and glitches present in my Steam copy of OF:DR have made it virtually unplayable...
My system passes all the recommended requirements but the game still manages to crash my display drivers every time I switch view modes and the framerate randomly drops to a sideshow at very random points.
Actually the later problem feels like an optimization problem ala GTA:IV since I can play Crysis at higher settings and a better framerate than this game, which doesn't even look that exceptionally great to begin with...
@omgwtflolbbqbye: Virtually unplayable? I have to wonder what could be the cause of this, as the game runs smooth as butter and everything feels dead on. The occasional glitch does happen where my squadmate will "jitter" real quick, but thats it. Might want to check your rig.
@FatherFingers: It's wierd actually, the first mission on Skira it ran fine, then the display crashes started with the 2nd mission whenever I pulled the IR sights up on the rifle, then the 3rd mission with all the tanks charging up the beach brought my fps down. Now I'm stuck on the 4th mission cause as soon the map loads it instantly turns into a slideshow and crashes my entire comp...
But like I said, I never had any similar problem running my other games :/
A bit sad really, 4 years into this gen, saturated with FPS games and this is the first one that's "realistic". Now perhaps Ubi will bring back the old Ghost Recon and I can dispense with this CODMW arcadey crap.
@JimmyPewtron: Might I suggest ARMA 2 or GRAW 2 (PC version)? Both of those are fairly brutally difficult, same sim-shooter vein as this game. And current-gen, no less. Oh, and note I mentioned the PC version of GRAW2, it is an ENTIRELY different game from the console versions.
Overall, I'm really enjoying the new Operation Flashpoint. The story is pretty non-existent, but the bread-and-butter for me is the wide open terrain, squad commans, realism, sound effects, calling in fire support, the damage system, basically almost everything. I haven't had pop-in issues (maybe because I have it on PC?) but far-away textures pretty much suck when looking through your scope.
If anyone wants to play mp, my Steam ID is star5CR34M.
