I just don't understand why Ubisoft just doesn't make an emulator for PSN and 360 that will allow people to play downloadable Wii games at higher quality and frame rates and recoup some of their losses. All's they have to do is develop their Wii games to support real controllers and they can double-dip to their hearts content.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Real controllers? god...so pathetic, seriously a controller is a controller wheter you like it or not. You cant put many of the wii games on any other consoles preciselly because of that controller you just insulted, because without it no more heroes would be less fun, without it many games that were designed to work WITH that controller wouldnt be that fun. Seriously leave your wii hate for a different topic that actually involves that.
Finally, its not logical that you say it doesnt make sense to you why wii games arent ported as downloads to PSN or XBLA ,its just stupid not to mention all the lawsuits for making so many exclusives go to other consoles.
@HELLSRIDER is trying to get a job: Haha, okenny made a simple, light-hearted comment on what he wished could be made and the Kotaku commenters are on him like a teen male on porn!
@deathsyth8888: I sorta figured this might happen if I didn't use a [\sarcasm] end note. I admit hyperbole is harder to distinguish if it sounds a lot like what "my kind" might typically say to get a rise out of people but I'm not trying to cause anyone anguish, I just want more eggrolls.
@HELLSRIDER is trying to get a job: The phrase "real controller" might be a direct dig on Nintendo's Bullshit-pro they announced recently; The company has clearly shown that it has a bad habit of taking something they've already put out and attaching a vestigial appendage to it and reselling it; the basic product model of a Wii remote but just a classic controller with plastic shoulder pads. Seriously if you have to use the Wiimote to interface it to the Wii itself the you have a fucking retarded voltron-style controller where all the parts form-up into one glorious abortion. But I say "might" because I'm not this kind of person. I'm about Love&Peace and I respect what Nintendo has managed to do for itself even though they don't speak to me. But this isn't about Nintendo, this is about Ubisoft.... not Nintendo hate, not Wii hate.
I don't see what's so bad about having emulators on the other networks to play Wii games. Think about it, Wii has the virtual console which runs almost every system that came before it with the exception of some recent ones like the Xbox, PSX and PS2. Now this isn't a disrespect to the other system, the Wii is just doing it because it's capable of doing so and it puts a little extra cash in the IP holders pockets. Good deal all around for everyone.
Now enter the PS3 and 360 which are both powerful machines. Some may even argue either machine might have enough power to run a few instances of the Wii as background processes. This isn't an insult but just an astute observation. As for licensing, Ubisoft is a publisher so it's not beholden unto Nintendo and a lot of other publishers are the same way. This leaves only the controller. I mean developers make games for the Wii that we complain that just have waggle mapped on to traditional controls that doesn't take advantage of the Wiimote's capabilities so it sounds like to me that many games already have controls that work with things like the Bullshit-pro (remember "might"... it's all in your head man... I swear I love Wii <3) built in.
This gets me down to the heart of the issue. Komrade and Archaotic are clearly distrot over this Ubisoft move to bundle No More Heros and Red Steel together. All I'ms saying is that if the Virtual Wii™ exited, Ubisoft may have had enough money from a multi-platform release to not have to resort to breaking their hearts. My comment isn't a troll or Wii-hate, it's an act of mercy. How can something so right sound so wrong. Don't forget, nothing any commenter on the internet can say can take away the fact that the Wii is the number #1 console on the market and for most people, it's adequate for gaming. I can't believe people would need to be reminded of this every time a Wii-related comment is made that might upset them. We shouldn't walk about assuming people will attack the console we love. If that were the case, I'd be online on the console all the time instead of coming on the browser every now and then to see what gamers are doing. If you read this far then something IS really wrong with you. I fell asleep half way through writing this.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): Only thing is I don't think that No More Heroes would do any better on any other console. I think that's a myth, made up by the Dark Side. No More Heroes is a weird fucking game. Weird fucking games struggle. It's the sad truth of life. Nobody buys Katamari; nobody buys NMH.
@okenny :) ...building bridges (to hide under): I don't really see why you'd want that, both games were essentially made from the ground up for the Wii (Moreso Red Steel than NMH but I digress) It sounds like what you want is a sword fighting game and a GTA parody, more than anythng.
@CaptaiNeNN: I know this idea is insane (partly the reason why I posted it) but it would establish a way for these people to get games on other console with minimal development overhead. It still sucks they have to pay off everyone else including rating and licensing and the platform holders. I guess I'm just throwing it out there. Oh well :(
@D Mitsuki ...stocking gasoline, to burn those bridges he's ...: What story? No More Heroes is like some drunk idiot was rambling & someone attempted to form a coherent story out of it by throwing in a bunch of pop culture references. They leave so many things unexplained like why Silvia was under fire on the beach scene prior to Destroyman, the dead body you have to trace to the underground tunnel, the whole master Jacob side-plot, Shinobu's father, Shinobu getting her arm reattached, why Master Ryu intended to battle Speed Buster, the Jeane clone at the end, the "Garden of Madness" crap, & a ton of other stuff I probably can't remember right now. In fact, even the backstory about Silvia conning Travis in the bar just to fight her sister-in-law to the death didn't make much sense.
-Gameplay was extremely repetitive, unchallenging, & just plain boring.
-Characters were among only saving graces in the game.
@Gorilla Snow is hot for Snorlax: Sorry, but I state my opinion as it is. I don't adjust it to suit your or anyone elses preference. If anything from my viewpoint & I'm sure the majority outside of communities like Kotaku who are part of the niche, you're the one trying to be edgy by defending this game because IT'S "edgy" to you.
Don't stand between these people. They can speak for themselves. And you two. Jusy give in to your anger. Let your passion fuel you. Use the Dark Side to your advantage.
I'm ashamed of you, Travis Touchdown, for associating yourself with such a piece of shit.
I'm ashamed of you, Ubisoft, for treating a gem like No More Heroes like common shovelware.
And I'm ashamed of you, Wii owners, for constantly ignoring the game when I tried to recommend it to you.
Basically, there's a whole lot of head-shaking going on over here. Hopefully the people publishing NMH2 will actually take it seriously. Ubisoft sure didn't.
NMH is one of the best games this generation. You have no idea how furious I would get (back when I worked at GameStop) when people who looked like they might appreciate a real game would come up and ask for a good Wii game. I'd show them NMH, they'd always say "meh" and go grab some shit like Red Steel or Mario and Sonic.
No More Heroes is like that dude that's really good to a lady; Always there for her, supporting her when she's down, cheering her up. But as soon as she's back on her feet, she goes back to the jerk who broke her heart. (Mario and Sonic.)
Wait, were we talking about my life or No More Heroes here? :[
Seriously though, that game was treated so badly by the press (GAME INFORMEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!) and the consumer public, it single-handedly gave birth to my irrational hatred for the average Wii owner.
I agree with ya though. I didn't care for No More Heroes, but I could at least see that it was a decent game low B/high C rank game. Red Steel was a freaking train wreck, and unlike an actual train wreck, it wasn't even fun to watch!
@CockroachMan: Just because a decent game happens to pop in every now and then doesn't mean you can count on it. Especially not from a developer like Ubisoft.
@Bialia: Hey, more power to ya. But you tried it, and didn't like it, and didn't jump to conclusions, right?
It's not an everybody game. I have huge issues with it, in fact. Some of the odd jobs are a little too odd and there is a lot, lot, lot of filler between the missions. I can't even bring myself to finish it. But I want to keep it forever.
But the humor is very welcome, the voice acting is pretty solid, the missions tend to be pretty fun and there are a lot of great touches scattered throughout. Using the wiimote to play with the cat was worth the purchase price alone. I love the atmosphere of Suda-weirdness that permeates the game.
Conceptually, it's great. But it's like playing through (rather than just listening to) a very smart, eccentric guy's theories about modern video games, rather than a video game designer's job... something he had to do to please people to earn a living.
AND, I think the sequel will probably clean up most of the slack of the original game and be more playable.
Yeah I have RedSteel, it wasn't so bad; it gave me headaches though and I stopped playing it at a certain point, had it since 06 haven't beat it yet. No More Heroes on the other hand, I love that game one of my favoirites of this gen... Of all time. I let my 14 year old cousin hold it, she just got a Wii. I don't know why I did that she messes people things up. And her Little brother is ADD and he likes to lick game disc.
