On June 30th, to be specific. If you want to reap the benefits (free stuff!) of elite status in Nintendo of America's customer rewards program, pay attention.

You have until next Tuesday to rack up the required "coins" to ensure you're of Gold or Platinum membership caliber. Doing so will net you some cool, undisclosed Nintendo related thing that you can possess, look at, and have others covet. Those coins can be acquired by registering Nintendo games and answering surveys, a small price to pay for material ownership of some thing—which could very well be a cool thing.

Accumulated coins will still be available to spend on Nintendo-themed tchotchkes, but your status will be reset next week. Don't be left in the cold! Join me in being PLATINUM.

And thanks to everyone who reminded us to remind you.

Club Nintendo

<![CDATA[American Gamers Love Football, Guns]]> A report from Forbes reveals that American gamers like football and shooting things, according to NPD Group data that lists the best selling games from the past fifteen years. In the number one spot is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which has moved an impressive 9.4 million units. Just behind that? Guitar Hero III somewhat surprisingly enough at 8.2 million. It pays to milk!

The list is similarly dominated by Madden in its various incarnations, whether they be Madden NFL 2005, Madden NFL 2006, Madden NFL 2007 or Madden NFL 2008. Halo 2 and Call of Duty 4's sales further prove that Americans like to shoot.

I'm currently hard at work on a video game about a football player that is given a guitar that shoots lasers and tasked with fending off a terrorist invasion. I'm calling it Admiral Shred's Terror Touchdown. Don't steal my awesome idea.

<![CDATA[Yes, The Uncharted Demo Is Region Locked]]> If you're in the PAL or Asian territories, you may have discovered that your 1.2 GB download of the brand new Uncharted: Drake's Fortune demo won't @!#?@!ing play on your PlayStation 3. It's not a bug, despite it's somewhat awkward behavior. It's intentional. Yes, the Uncharted demo is sadly region specific and won't play on anything but a North American PS3. It's the kind of slap in the face that hurts so much worse after a 1200 MB wait in line.

We contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America who confirmed that the US version "does not allow for cross-region play" and that "the Japanese and PAL demo will both be released soon, but we don't have confirmed release dates." Unfortunately, the delay in the non-North American enjoyment of the Naughty Dog adventure can simply be chalked up to Uncharted's release date in its respective territories. Cold comfort, I know.

UPDATE: The official PlayStation.blog has a comment from Uncharted producer Sam Thompson who writes that "we have shared your frustration with the Naughty Dog team and we are going to see what we can do. I will be back tomorrow with an update, but in the meantime I hope you can be patient and bear with us." He adds that "I hope to have good news for you soon."

<![CDATA[Metal Gear Online Servers Going Down]]> Konami has announced that the Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence online servers will be shut down in North America on April 2, 2007. Released less than a year ago, it seems the Metal Gear Online community wasn't strong enough to sustain interest from Konami to keep internet-based play up and running.

Still, the MGO user community has started one of those last ditch internet petitions to voice their displeasure to Kojima Productions and Konami about their decision to end the service. Good luck, boys! And thanks for the heads up, Chris.

<![CDATA[Sitting Technology A Huge Priority At CES]]> The one thing the Consumer Electronics Show is not lacking in is people. And gaming chairs. In fact, the number of gaming chairs on display at CES outnumbered the PlayStation 3 and Wii games present at the show combined. Granted that latter number is five, but come on.

While companies like Intel and Sharp went to great lengths to bring in Formula 1 and NASCAR replicas into their booths to give aging executives something memorable to sit in during their gaming sessions, others were simply trying to convince the handful of gamers in attendance that their current sofa just isn't as good as a chair with a subwoofer aimed directly at their ass. Serious gamer chair gallery after the jump.

And yet, with all that effort to capture the show's game chairs on film, that I somehow failed to capture the "Ultimate Game Chair"? So sad.

<![CDATA[Kirby Gets Tough In North America]]>

Nintendo must be concerned about the tough guy image of their resident bad ass, Kirby, because when he comes stateside, he is going to be pissed. You can tell by the change in artwork from the Japanese release (left), to the North American release (right).

Nevermind that in order to get the game at some locations you'll have to say "May I please have a copy of KIRBY SQUEAK SQUAD, please?" out loud, a phrase that immediately emasculatea the speaker, once people see that pink puffball with the downturned eyebrows, they'll know you too mean business.

That Kirby is one bad mother...

Thanks for the pointer, Nick!
