Christmas is coming. The world lurches towards economic oblivion. What's a product that covers all three of those bases? The Onimusha bundle, that's what!

Called Onimusha Essentials, the pack combines the first three PS2 games - Onimusha, Onimusha 2 and Onimusha: Jean Reno - into the single PS2 SKU for $30. Not a bad stocking-stuffer, that.

<![CDATA[Onimusha Movie Delayed]]> Christophe Gans' Onimusha movie is in a spot of bother. It's been put on indefinite hold thanks to, of all things, the death of Heath Ledger, which impacted on the schedule of producer Samuel Hadida, who was due to work with Ledger on a new Terry Gilliam movie. Because that's been stopped, Hadida had to delay the filming of Onimusha, which has now thrown out the calendars of the film's Japanese cast, who are now all too busy working on other stuff to get started on Onimusha. Series fans not put off by either the prospect of an adaptation or the fact Gans was handling it will no doubt be crushed. If, you know. Those people exist.

<![CDATA[Bashcraft Numero 2, Inafune Numero 3 (Does Not Compute)]]> Earlier, I appeared on the Bionic Commando podcast and rambled on about pointless things and got in an argument with some Capcom dude. Good times. The official word from Capcom is that the podcast I appeared on is the second most downloaded BC podcast. The first is where the team discussed Bionic Commando Rearmed, the second was me droning on and on and the third was when Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune showed up. Hello craziness! That just makes no sense whatsoever. So please, do humanity a huge favor and go download the crap outta the Inafune podcast. That guy made Dead Rising and Onimusha, I sit at home in my underwear and misspell words all day. He has insight into the gaming industry and should be second! Not me, dammit!

<![CDATA[Udon To Issue Flood Of Capcom Comics In 2008]]> With the original Street Fighter now twenty years long in the tooth and Capcom planning to issue Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Udon Entertainment is capitalizing on the license in a big way in 2008. It's planning on issuing no less than three new Street Fighter comic book lines next year, including Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Legends: Chun-Li and Street Fighter III: New Generation. Details on the involved artists, plus teaser artwork shots have been added to the publisher's official blog.

In addition to all that Street Fighter stuff, new comics based on the Onimusha and Devil Kings games are planned. Beyond even that, a pair of Capcom art books from Udon—Onimusha Dawn of Dreams: Official Complete Works and the Darkstalkers Graphic File—will eat away at your savings next year. One Darkstalkers art book, please!

<![CDATA[Onimusha Plot Revealed, Shoehorns In Some White Folk]]> Video game film adaptations are generally poorly received, but the upcoming Hollywood transformation of Capcom's Onimusha seemed to be on the right track. When the production announced the wise casting of Takeshi Kaneshiro as lead demon slayer in Christophe Gans adaptation, I wondered "When's some clueless executive going to come around and fuck this thing up the right way?" Well, we may have an answer. The upcoming plot of Onimusha the movie has been revealed.

Sure, the Onimusha series is no stranger to throwing in an out of place European or two, rather unexpectedly, but this just smacks of icky casting to up the white people quotient. Here's a snippet.

When Britta, the daughter of a Dutch merchant, is abducted on board a ship by seemingly invincible warriors, her tutor and confidant Jacob pursues her captors, vowing to rescue her at all costs. Meanwhile, the beautiful Princess Yuki is also kidnapped, this time by ninjas that reveal themselves, incredibly, to be part spider. In search of Yuki, Samanosuke joins forces with Jacob to vanquish their common foe.

I can only assume that the listing of Samanosuke and Yuki's existence in the plot line as secondary is indicative of the importance of their roles in the story. Since Gans churned out such a sloppy Silent Hill adaptation, I don't really have much in the way of faith for Onimusha. That's probably a good thing, since my attachment to Onimusha isn't nearly as strong as Silent Hill. More details on the film's outline are at Coming Soon.

<![CDATA[Mega Man's Inafune In NYC Today]]> As we told you back in early July, Creator of some of the most recognizable characters in video game history Keiji Inafune will be hitting up the GameStop on Broadway and 33rd from 5 to 8pm for an official autograph session celebrating the 20th anniversary of Mega Man. As Inafune is the producer for the Onimusha series and Dead Rising, creator of the Mega Man series, and a graphic designer for Street Fighter you are sure to have something on hand to have him scribble on, and if not there will be limited-edition retro t-shirts and special posters on hand. Plus I am sure GameStop will be happy to sell you any number of overpriced used Capcom games or the just released store-exclusive Mega Man Star Force: Dragon for the DS before bugging you to reserve something. A small price to pay for a brush with gaming greatness.

<![CDATA[Onimusha Film Gets A Demon Slayer]]> Director Christophe Gans is bringing Capcom's Onimusha to the big screen with filming scheduled to kick off early next year. While Gans' adaptation of Silent Hill received mixed reviews for its take on Konami's horror franchise, it seems his Onimusha flick is off to a good start. According to Ain't It Cool News, Gans spilled some casting-related beans to French site DVDrama, putting actor Takeshi Kaneshiro in the role of lead demon slayer Samanosuke.

This is one of those casting "no-brainers." Kaneshiro not only performed the voiceovers for Samanosuke in the original Onimusha: Warlords and Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, Capcom designed the in-game model to look like the Taiwanese-Japanese actor. Outside of Onimusha games, Kaneshiro is probably most famous for his portrayal of Jin in the movie House of Flying Daggers.

Something about this sounds too right. When's some clueless executive going to come around and fuck this thing up the right way?

<![CDATA[Onimusha Film Production Dates Slated]]>

Capcom's sword-swinging series Onimusha is getting the big screen treatment with Silent Hill director Christophe Gans at the helm. Production of the US $70 million film will begin in China starting next February. Says Gans:

I have loved the Onimusha story for years and am overjoyed to have the opportunity now to bring it to life for worldwide film audiences and to access the unparalleled film resources of China to do so on the scale that the story demands.

That's Hollywood talk for it's cheaper to shoot in the Mainland. Onimusha is aiming for a December 2009 release.

<![CDATA[Capcom Goes Hollywood]]> Following the success of the two released Resident Evil films and a new Street Fighter flick featuring Chun Li in the works, Capcom is looking to its other franchises to expand its presence in Hollywood. The Hollywood Reporter talked to new senior VP of licensing Germaine Gioia about where Capcom will look to expand on its movie licensing.

She reveals that both Onimusha and Devil May Cry have been optioned as film properties but that we shouldn't expect to see either IP hit theaters or see a direct to DVD release any time soon. Capcom may also be beefing up the company's stateside executive presence to speed up the approval process.

<![CDATA[Silent Hill Director To Adapt Another Game Flick]]>

French filmmaker Christophe Gans is ready to try his hand at another adaptation by bringing Capcom's PS2 samurai warrior series Onimusha to the silver screen. He was previously slated to direct Bob Morane and Rahan. These projects have been cancelled. Jean Reno (The Professional) and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Chungking Express) signing on could spell global hit.
