The original XBOX was around for 4 years? This one's three years old. It's outsold the original by 3 million in 1 less year. While impressive, I don't know if it's chest-thumping impressive.
@GOD: LOL!... didn't you get the memo... a sale is a sale is a sale! *dies a little inside* I actually wanted to say + 1 in flux but didn't know how to mathematically represent that. Surely there's an alpha-geek amongst us who can nerdily (is that a word??) explain what I want :(
"YEAH, GO 360!!! *takes a drink* WOOHOO, I'M GONNA GO OWN AT HALO, NO WAIT, WHO NEEDS THAT SHIT, I GOTS ME GEARS OF WAR, BUT WHY PLAY THAT CRAP WHEN MY SYSTEM SELLS MORE THAN THE COMPETITION!!? YEAH!I WIN!"
@agthang: Hmmm... you must not know lllusionx here on Kotaku then. God removed a rib from EnigmaNemesis and created lllusionx much as I was cut from the side of Luke Plunkett himself!!!
...Sorry Luke, low hanging fruit. I honestly say these horrible things out of love <3
@EnigmaNemesis: Oh snap! You weren't supposed to read this ^_^; I was told my a kind gentleman today that PC folks stay in PC stories, PS3 folks stay in PS3 stories, 360 folks stay in 360 stories, and Wii folks stay in Wii stories. Apparently Kotaku is supposed to be segregated (according to him) real nice and proper-like... just like the deep south :3 I'm sure he feels that people who own multiple consoles are sell-outs and should be hung too :|
Funny shit is brotha... that this time two years ago, I was hugely accused a 360 fanbot. I love the interwebz. And I love my every changing chamelionism!
@ShirtGuyDom: I'm working in an environment where it was announced just before Christmas that we will be cutting 10% of our workforce (about 100 people). You can imagine the mood around the office when I came back from my two weeks off. This is the first real economic disaster I've been through as an adult and I can't say I like the feeling of uncertainty one bit :(
@ShirtGuyDom: No... don't. We're all facing the same uncertainties but I like guys who can crack a joke about these things. If you can't even laugh in the face of these kinds of things then what's really left. Everyone understands you're not mocking the people... just the reality of it all. I honestly didn't mean to bring you down :)
Yeah no kidding. The PS3 has some awesome games...sometime between now and the end of 2009. At least on the 360 you PLAY GAMES. (I had a PS3..and I didn't use it for a year. I'm still bitter.)
Would you poll all 28 million sales to figure out how many of those 360s were purchased by the same individuals? Even more so when you're trying to brag about how well you're doing?
I'd agree with this only because if Microsoft were forced to call it quits now, so many people would be screwed out of a lot of money and invested time.
Otherwise, I'd shed no tear nor show any remorse if gamers came together to tar and feather Microsoft's Xbox division.
Good games, good features, good online- Absolutely horrible, pathetic hardware- To the point where it's insulting to customers.
@Hey_guy: The design is excellent... the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The new chips using far less energy will generate less heat and will most likely end the whole problem... it's sad that 28 million of us will not likely have this benefit :(
I'm disappointed with microsoft for the hardware problems and i really think they should of fixed the problems a long time ago. (idk how common rrods are now but it seems like they have been getting better with the new chipset or whatever so props to MS)
Microsoft really did do well the software this generation with getting games to break away from exclusivity and even get extra dlc in many situations. They really outdid the competition in this sense so that redeems them for this generation and really lets them to start to actually be a big threat in the video game industry (to the hardware competition)
I really dislike how Microsoft rushed into the market and kind of screwed the customers over. I realize they needed to get out early for their sake but i really think they should of done more on finding solutions for the hardware they would be pushing later on. (maybe Ms did more then i know but it seems they ignored the problem with hardware and just covered the costs with warranty)They did handle the situation well though for users effected though.
I'm kind of biased since i have a ps3 and don't have a 360 but i'm not a fanboy by any means. Sony just owns a lot of the ips i love so i really am kind of locked to the system but i really will consider the xbox next generation if they bring out solid hardware and keep up with there software.
@gabelogan: Sony does indeed own a lot of IPs but I honestly believe that by the end of this generation most of us will own both if not all three platforms (we all own PCs so it doesn't count :P).
Regardless though, this is good news as hopefully is hopefully in this for the long haul. More money for them will also into more features for us. The business is clearly making them money and may make up what they've invested before the next generation swings around. They need to pick up the momentum even more... it's no time to slow down because if anyone thinks Sony is out of it... they would be idiots. RROD aside, it's healthy competitions that will MS rolling out good features for the platform.
