How are they still allowed to call this game APB? I'm pretty sure that there was an arcade game back in the eighties with the exact same name.

@globones: The trademark may have lapsed. TM's are owned on a "use it or lose it" basis. If the makers of the original APB have not kept up the registration and/or use of the trademark then they can (and most likely have) lost any claim to the name.

@AlcoholicZombie: If you ever went for a job interview and described yourself as "not bad" you'd be doing it wrong.

That aside, an ability to play games well is not a requirement and can often be a hinderance to a QA tetser. Devs don't want people running around setting high scores, they want people to find the stuff in the game that is broken.

Some days you'll spend all day walking into walls just to make sure that there are no gaps to fall through other days you won't even get past a menu screen.

@ThursdayNext: i dont think alcoholiczombie said anything about qa.. i think they were going for some sort of artist. az never mentioned anything about being great at playing games (im assuming thats what you meant, because "the ability to play games" doesnt necessarily mean that youre going to break the game with high scores).

@shouryuuken: Im not at all confident in my artistic ability. I should be if I am willing to get into the field. Too bad the developers of APB only have a few US jobs posted. Maybe some more later on. Also, Need to rack up degrees if I am seriously going into any gaming field of work. ;]

@Firelance: You could get into a Quality Assurance position as a tester. The pay is horrible, the hours are wretched and your job security is zero, but you'd be in the industry.

When I worked at Westwood Studios, we had a lot of guys move out of test and into design and programming positions after spending time in the QA trenches.

@KillerBee: AFAIK Realtime World now look for QA testers who are educated at least to degree level, simply due the large numbers of people in Dundee who want to get their foot in the door at a game development studio.

@Firelance: Minimum wage in the UK is currently *checks Google* £5.73 an hour, which is *checks Google again* US$9.37. So you'd be selling yourself short. Although I guess your commuting costs would seriously eat into your pay.
