A couple of weeks (and a dozen ladies) later, however, things aren't looking as solid.

Here's the original statement, sent out by EA on December 2:

Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged. We respect Tiger's privacy, we wish him a fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the golf course.

Supportive! They're rooting for the big guy, and will be backing him all the way. Thing is, that was at a time when Tiger was still a golfer. And was only facing allegations of sleeping with a handful of ladies who were not his wife.

Two weeks later, though, Woods has not only taken an indefinite break from the sport (not helpful for a company making a video game based around him playing golf), but it appears he's slept with every porn star and cocktail waitress north of the Mexican border. Meaning he's now less of an asset, more of a liability. And a fresh statement from EA reflects this.

This was sent by an EA Sports representative to the New Britain Herald yesterday:

We respect that this is a very difficult, and private, situation for Tiger and his family. At this time, the strategy for our Tiger Woods PGA Tour business remains unchanged.

Hmm. Interesting. "At this time". Carefully-worded phrase, that. It's the real-world marketing equivalent of "we have no plans". Sure, the strategy at this time remains unchanged, but by January or February (or at least until after Tiger Woods Online launches early next year), well, who knows.

In other words, while it's hardly an outright sacking, it's also no longer a guarantee that Tiger will be the face of EA Sports' golf franchise next year. Especially given the fact that he may not even be playing golf by the time next year's title rolls around.

Lee Carvallo, now's your chance!

<![CDATA[No PC DLC for RE5, Says Capcom]]> Capcom's announcement of a DLC bonanza on Wednesday conspicuously excluded PC versions and dates. That's because the company doesn't intend to release it for the PC. For now, anyway.

G4 spoke to a company rep who confirmed that lack of dates for PC versions was no accident. "No plans for PC at this point," said Capcom. And that was that.

That means no costumes, no new episodes, no new Mercenaries multiplayer, zip. You want that, grab the console version, or wait for Capcom to change their minds, I guess.

<![CDATA[Media Molecule: LBP Sequel Would "Fragment" Its Community]]> Media Molecule leaves little doubt it has no plans for any kind of a sequel to LittleBigPlanet, with a designer calling it "the most counterproductive thing you could do," in an interview with Critical Gamer.

"We'd never want to do that," said Danny Leaver, adding that a sequel would fragment the game's community. Producer Martin Lynagh said that the game's existing strategy of updates and DLC - and both have been robust enough - will be status quo.

"I think what you've seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that's the way it's going to continue," Lynagh told Critical Gamer.

There's this and much more in an extensive interview, the first part of which was published today.

<![CDATA[No Demo for Assassin's Creed II, Either]]> Ubisoft's decision to not publish a public demo for the first Assassin's Creed disappointed fans. They're going to be disappointed again, because a spokesman has said Assassin's Creed II won't get a demo, either.

Connected Consoles reports that, at the Eurogamer Expo, an Ubisoft rep told them straight up the game will not be getting a demo. Your only opportunity to try before you buy is if Ubi brings it to a public expo near you.

<![CDATA[Microsoft: No Blu-ray Add-ons Coming To Xbox 360]]> Despite what Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer may have implied, the company has "no plans" to bring Blu-ray playing accessories to the Xbox 360, according to a statement from the company.

Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb posting on his Xbox 360-centric blog today that Ballmer wasn't speaking about the Xbox platform during his interview with Gizmodo, instead saying those accessories were bound for the PC. More "poorly chosen words" or just a simple misunderstanding?

"As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360," Hryb reiterated. "In fact, the future of home entertainment starts very soon when Xbox 360 becomes the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies."

<![CDATA[No Plans for Layton on Wii]]> In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, the Level 5 CEO Akihiro Hino has said the studio has no plans to bring Professor Layton to the Wii, despite the series' strong popularity on the DS.

Hino said the current trilogy will close out with "Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel," and a new one will open with "Professor Layton and the Flute of Malevolent Destiny," to be released in Japan.

"The new trilogy will also be based around solving puzzles, but will also include greatly improved bonus modes so I think that players will be able to enjoy the games for even longer. We currently have no plans for a Wii release," Hino told ONM. So, there ya go.

<![CDATA[Capcom Has Not Yet Decided Resident Evil 6 Producer]]> Osaka-based game company Capcom makes Resident Evil zombie games. With Resident Evil 5 shipping 5 million copies worldwide, damn skippy that Capcom is going to churn out RE6.

"Honestly", RE5 and Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi told Kotaku, "the producer for Resident Evil 6 hasn't been decided yet." Takeuchi has previously expressed interested in a fresh take on the RE series. With Resident Evil 5, he spearheaded the implementation of a dual control scheme that allows players to play with more traditional RE controls or newer, tweaked ones.

"I think, while Resident Evil 4 is a great game, its appeal was limited somewhat to maniac players," Takeuchi said. "With RE5, I wanted to bring the series to a larger audience. I think its important to do the same for the next RE."

Part of Capcom's plan to bring the franchise to a larger audience includes the Wii Resident Evil titles. Since Resident Evil 5 is coming to the PS3 with wand motion controllers, it would make sense for Capcom to bring the title over to the Nintendo Wii.

Wii ports might be possible, but according to Takeuchi, "With the difference between hardware specs for the Wii and the PS3, porting might be hard. We currently have no plans."

<![CDATA[Peter Moore: No More NASCAR Games from EA]]> In an interview, EA Sports boss Peter Moore says his division's plans for doing more NASCAR games have, like Ray Earl Don's No. 78 Chevy in turn four at Rockingham, done blowed up.

"There are no plans right now for NASCAR from EA," Moore told GameSpot. Moore said the people who worked on EA's NASCAR titles in the past had to be sent over to to work on another project. He adds:

Unfortunately … we had to make some tough trade-offs. We've had to redeploy some of those folks. A number of the NASCAR team has moved over now to EA Sports MMA, which will be shipping next year. [We're] still a huge fan of NASCAR, but no plans right now to develop any further games for NASCAR from EA Sports.

So, NASCAR fans, you may blame MMA fans. There are two constituencies I'd love to see go at it. Hell, make that into a video game.

Answering fan questions on the subject, Howard said that there are "no current plans" for a fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series.

A little disappointing, true, but remember, "no current plans" only means no current plans. Plans change. And hey, maybe he's just being coy, and they're working on Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion II!

<![CDATA[Godfather III Looking Less Likely]]> EA's The Godfather II sold only 241,000 copies in the U.S. — disappointing for a name title. No wonder EA Games label president Frank Gibeau is ready to wash his hands of the franchise.

"We're not going to do another one," Gibeau, adding that no Godfather games are in the company's production schedule, which falls under the next three years.

Paramount, the Hollywood company that produced the film, didn't seem to be aware of these plans. "Plans for the next Godfather game have not been decided," a Paramount rep stated. And when EA was asked to clarify Gibeau's statement, this was offered from a company spokesperson: "We do not currently have a Godfather game in development. Nothing has been decided as to future sequels. Paramount is a great partner."

EA seems to have become less interested in game adaptations, previously dumping licenses like James Bond and The Lord of the Rings. Whether this quote from Gibeau was merely a gaff or a fact, it's not yet know. What is known is that while we're not sure if we want to play The Godfather III, we're definitely not interesting in watching The Godfather III.

<![CDATA["No Plans" for PS3 Redesigns]]> Sony loves redesigning its hardware — slimmer, slicker, better. Rumor has it that the Japanese company will be announcing not one, but two hardware redesign-related announcements at this year's E3.

According to Sony, "We currently don't have any plans for a redesigned PS3." Our internet dictionary defines "currently" as "at the presenttime; now." So currently right now, Sony doesn't have plans, but maybe in the future (tomorrow? next week? next year?), the company could have plans.

And like that, No Plans Watch strikes AGAIN!

<![CDATA[Square Enix Has "No Plans" For English FFXIII Blu-ray Demo]]> Just because the Final Fantasy XIII Blu-ray demo powered Japanese PS3 sales, don't expect the same for the West. Heck, don't expect a Blu-ray demo for the time being.

When Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase was asked by website VideoGamer.com whether there will be a Blu-ray FFXIII demo, the producer replied, "The type of demo version we released in Japan, we currently have no plan of doing that abroad, partly because we are going to carry on with the project alongside the Xbox version, so we really can't just make it available only for the PS3."

But does no Blu-ray demo mean no demo at all? "But we hear that the demo version normally means something that you can download in the West," Kitase continued, "so that is a possibility we would like to check." That's nice of them to check and all, but we're pretty sure demos are things you can download in Japan, too.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Has NO PLANS For DSi Skype]]> The PSP has voice-over-IP software Skype, and hey, Skype is technically possible for the DSi. That doesn't mean because it's possible that the DSi is getting Skype.

A Skype representative told website TechRadar, "Whilst we can't comment on any future plans to bring Skype to Nintendo's DSi, it would technically be possible." (Whilst?)

This comes as Nintendo President Satoru Iwata stated that the Kyoto-based video-game company is not interested in entering the mobile phone market. Skype would be an easy way for Nintendo to sidestep that and still give the DSi added functionality.

When asked about Skype on the DSi, Nintendo told game site CVG: "We have no plans to release a Skype application for Nintendo DS or DSi." Maybe one day Nintendo will have plans and then you'll have Nintendo-approved Skype on your DSi.

<![CDATA[No Fatal Frame For Europe, Either]]> Fatal Frame probably won't be released on the Wii in the US. If it makes you feel any better, Americans, it probably won't be released in Europe either.

Echoing yesterday's "not our fault" statement from Tecmo, Nintendo Europe have said "there are currently no plans to release this game in Europe". As we know, "no plans" isn't the same as "never", but at the same time, it doesn't exactly sound promising.

Amazing that the Wii can be drowned in a shitstorm of third-party shovelware, but a game with a genuine following from a renowned developer gets put on the shelf. The mind boggles.

<![CDATA[The Chances Of A DISSIDIA Sequel...]]> Want a DISSIDIA sequel? Square Enix game designer Tetsuya Nomura says there are "no plans" currently. But, hey, plans can change.

According to game site 1Up, Nomura states at the end of a 704-page DISSIDIA strategy guide: "There are no current plans for a sequel. To be honest, I wanted to do one up until a few months ago. I even called [Mitsunori] Takahashi, the planning director, and [Ryuji] Ikeda, the lead programmer, to talk about sequel concepts — I told them to think about what they were going to do and prepare themselves [to make a sequel]. However, circumstances inside the company wiped that idea out... to actually make [a sequel] happen would be very difficult given the situation."

(That situation is probably, what, the development of mega title Final Fantasy XIII?)

"If a lot of fans ask for a DISSIDIA II, circumstances might change. I'd like to think about the matter again if that happens," Nomura added. With the way DISSIDIA is selling and with Square Enix's proclivity for sequels, DISSIDIA II seems like no-brainer — and is.

<![CDATA[Sony Have NO PLANS For A PSP2]]> Time for another episode of "No Plans Watch"! This week, we feature Sony's John Koller, who takes recent reports that PSP2 games are already in development and does his best to pooh pooh them.

He says that numerous development sources have it all totally wrong! According to Koller, all Sony are doing is "pushing developers away from its "Universal Media Discs" and towards digital distribution of games via the PSP store". That's all!

In other words, Mr. Koller would like us all to believe that a number of developers who develop for the PSP could not differentiate between this "push" and developing for an all-new handheld.

Not the strongest "no plans" denial we've seen, then, but it gets points for its creative "explanation"!

<![CDATA[Sony Have "No Plans" For A PSP2]]> Yes! It's time for this week's instalment of No Plans Watch. So, who doesn't have any plans today? It's Sony's David Reeves, who says Sony have no plans for a PSP2.

Speaking with MCV, the Sony Computer Entertainment boss responded to questions bugging him about a second-generation Sony handheld with:

No, there are currently no plans for a PSP2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it – I think they have their hands full at the moment.

So...either Sony Japan only talk about the PSP2 behind Reeves' back, or they're too busy firing thousands of people? Not the most upbeat of responses, David! In fact, that's the most down-beat No Plans Watch we've done in months.

See, online mag D-Pad posted a slew of PS3 rumours the other day, most promising among them word that the PS3 would be getting "more competitive" in terms of pricing from March 2009 onwards. Well, SCEA are pouring cold water on the rumour, issuing a statement that says - wait for it - "There are no plans for a price reduction on PS3 in March 09, and anything reported on or discussed otherwise is purely rumor or speculation".
