I agree with him of the assessment that it would fragment the community. I just can't believe they would think of the community before their financial interests... very odd to hear of this. Unless of course, they think they can make more money this way :-P #littlebigplanet
I only rented the game, and plan to pick up the GOTY copy, and maybe someone can answer a few questions.
Does MM make new levels for sale, or am I relegated to playing user created levels? I don't like community built levels. I will pay for more MM made levels, either by DLC or a sequel.
Game music. This is something that gets updated with sequels. It changes the flavor, and reduces the redundancy of the game. #littlebigplanet
I'd much rather them spend time on further improving the existing product.
Like if this addition of water is for real, that could add hours and hours of gameplay right there.
Who knows what's next after that? More packs like MGS? It'd be cool to see them collaborate with another platformer that Sony has featured before . . . like Rayman or Crash.
Why would they make a sequel? They made a bare-bones game, release occasional DLC, and let the players do the work of making it fun. I don't see why they would have any need for a sequel. #littlebigplanet
@Manuel Calavera, Reaper Supreme: I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that it's a "bare bones game". I mean, you do know it's on a dual-layered bluray disc right?
You know what? Nevermind. I don't want to hear your reasoning.
@dowingba: They didn't even bother to get the platforming to feel right. Cramming a bunch of puzzle pieces in for people to put together doesn't mean it's a well-crafted game.
LBP is probably the worst game I've ever seen win GOTY awards. Ever.

@Manuel Calavera, Reaper Supreme: Seriously? The platforming is great. I'm a guy who still plays Sonic (from Genesis) to this day because I can't find a good platformer, and I love LBP.
Why's it a bad platformer? Please do tell . . . #littlebigplanet
@bangbangblah: The jumping is all floaty. I mean if you like it, good for you, but it just seems extremely loose to me.
I do agree platformers these days are too rare, though. It's probably my favorite genre, along with point-and-click adventures, and both are way too hard to come across these days.

Once you learn the jumping system, it's amazing. The physics are almost spot on from what you'd expect. You don't get any unrealistic double jumps, and you can aim your jumps to exactly where you like it. #littlebigplanet
Does having a star give you the right to be downright rude? He's obviously made that statement based on his own opinion and placed it on... wait for it: a forum based on game discussion.
I like LBP but for a game with so much originality behind it it just feels like they're making little effort with it anymore. I mean how easy would intergrating new story chapters with DLC other than the MGS pack? #littlebigplanet
@Error_404: The guy is a fucking idiot. Not only did he not even play LBP and yet feels the need to complain about the physics in the game; but take a look at an average comment from him: [kotaku.com]
Do you understand now? But way to bring up the "Star Whiner" defense. It always goes over so well. #littlebigplanet
@Manuel Calavera, Reaper Supreme: Yes well, your opinion is wrong, and I now seriously doubt you've ever played a decent platformer in your life.
I don't think it's necessarily that LBP is the "worst game to win GOTY awards ever", I think it's more of the case of you having the worst opinion ever. And I do mean EVER.
@Blore07: That game's been on my wish list since the day it was announced. Seriously, I'm a huge FF fan, and I'm more excited for modnation right now. The possibilities are limitless! #littlebigplanet
@bangbangblah: FF? I'm just hoping that the game comes with some quality levels packed in as well, I love the idea of creating my own, but I dont want to have to create them all for myself. #littlebigplanet
@Blore07: Final Fantasy. Point being that in the world of new releases early next year, Modnation tops my list despite having waited years for FF13. #littlebigplanet
Pity. I guess that float half-ass jumping will never be fixed then. But hey, endless DLC which keeps then
money flowing in is always a good thing
Maybe they can charge for a 'Improved jumping' patch. I dunno.
And did this game ever make it's production costs back? It fell off of the charts pretty fast.

Anyway, the "half-ass float jumping" which you refer to is actually just good physics. How far you jump was based on how hard you press the controls down. It sounds like you didn't really give this game a chance because after like 30 minutes to an hour, you get used to it and it actually is really responsive. Either way, don't look forward to them changing the jumping. #littlebigplanet
@SocraticMethod: I gave the game hours. I had to press the pressure pad under my DS3 buttons because of this game and it's "Hold the button harder and you jump longer, drrrr" style controls.
What you call 'good physics' I call "Screwing up the most important part of a platformer." FTL. #littlebigplanet
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: It's not Mario Bros or Sonic. The physics and the varied jumping make this game even more unique. I admit I hated the jumping at first too but I got used to it and I love it. But I guess some people just don't get the hang of it or still don't like it.
I have very little issues with the jumping and have completed the entire game on no deaths actually. It's actually a pretty remarkable jump system when you give it a shot. #littlebigplanet
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: It's hard not to generalize when you don't give any sort of answer as to why it's bad beyond that you had to push a pressure pad.
And please, if you're going to try to take a jab at me, at least correctly write "you're."
And before I go, speaking of incorrect generalizations: "And did this game ever make it's production costs back? It fell off of the charts pretty fast" That's not even true. At all. You just made that up. #littlebigplanet
@bangbangblah: Because I greatly dislike having to hold down a button harder to jump. That type of gameplay element leads to fustrating people who are both new AND old to platformers and wear and tear on the controller, which leads to replacement of it or parts, which I did. If I end up cutting though the pressure pad under the buttons because of how hard I have to hold it down to make what would be a simple jump in 90% of any other platformer I play, then something -might- be screwed up.
And the question about making it's production costs back was a just that. A QUESTION. Go back and look how I wrote that. I did not write "I doubt this game ever made it's protection costs back, given that it was a ghost on the charts within xxx time span"
Given the time spent on production, the ad campaign and whatnot, it's a legit question.
You love LBP with a passion. That much is clear from your posting history. I think it's a good game which is ruined by screwing up a primary part of progressing though the game much like Scribblenauts.
Does Lair now become a fantastic misunderstood game prepatch because -you- may have liked the controls but others found the forced flaky SIXAXIS use much like I found LBP's 'realistic' jumping? #littlebigplanet
@SocraticMethod: I played this game for 4 hours, and I couldn't get over how bad the physics were. I tried to like it, I tried to like the user-generated levels, however I could not. I found 1 interesting level out of 7 tried.
This game was indeed over-rated. It was cute, but the gameplay turned me off almost as fast as I purchased the game (which was fast).
Then the constant costume packs (of which I purchase ZERO). They don't need a sequel because they can continually sap people's income with never-ending costumes. #littlebigplanet
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: You do realise that the vast majority of side scrolling platformers make you jump higher the longer you hold the button, right? LBP did not invent this, it was even in all the Sonic and Mario games ;) #littlebigplanet
People are trying to compare this to L4D, but it's not really the same. LBP thrives on having lots of consumer created content -- a sequel would split that community. L4D, in general, doesn't. #littlebigplanet
@AcidSanta: That's why I said "in general" -- you're completely right about the mod community, and I understand why they'd feel concern.
My point was more to the fact the the original purchasing decision on L4D is based on the content included, while the LBP decision would be based on content that was being created by others and that you could create yourself ... since it's actually part of the game.
I wasn't trying to take a swipe at those that mod :)
Thank God they are straying from the "Release a sequel every year" BS that is tiring out. Sequels used to be something we'd have to wait for and sometimes it would take 2, 3, 4 or even 5+ years before we got one. Now before you buy a game a sequel is already halfway done. It's just ridiculous. I wish more companies would adopt the "Let's release more content for our EXISTING games" instead of releasing half-assed sequels that should be DLC anyways. #littlebigplanet
@Techno-Atom: What are you talking about? DLC is a new concept. Games used to have sequels come out yearly, if not more often. Mega Man, for example. #littlebigplanet
@Foxstar is in love with Kotaku's two Brians.: On what planet does Media Molecule have a bigger team then Valve? Here check for yourself. Check your facts before you just spout bullshit.
@excel_excel: That would make sense. Like releasing space-themed costumes with the spacesuit, or maybe even official levels themed around the costume tie-ins, like SFIV and stuff. #littlebigplanet
@penciledcookie: Yeah. The reaction to the MGS pack shows that stuff like this would be easily succesful. Imagine how epic an Uncharted pack would be! #littlebigplanet
@excel_excel: Licenses can be great. But so can original IP! So far, I think LBP has avoided turning into a mere "vessel" for licensed properties. As long as there are new additions like the History Pack and the Music Pack to keep balance with things like the Ghostbusters Pack and the 2000AD pack, all will be well on the stitched planet. #littlebigplanet
@rdgalactus: They definitely would have to watch what they commit to, but it was highly enjoyable to play the MGS level pack. I'm sure not all games could become a proper level pack, and instead become a decent costume pack. However, there's so much more potential to be had for LBP if they could create games styled in the stitched world of LBP.
A level pack would like an homage to that game/series! #littlebigplanet
@Atomsk88: Or here's another idea... utilize crowdsourcing as means of getting good levels out there.
I'm sure MM had this idea before... but somehow this was not done before the release of the game. It's pretty messed up after the whole Quran lyrics fiasco... #littlebigplanet
Attn Developers such as Capcom, Namco Bandai, Activision, etc. This is how you do DLC. Not having it already on the disc and making us pay for an unlock code but actually adding new content that adds to the game in a productive way. #littlebigplanet
