Working retail, I've noticed Modern Warfare 2's sales have slowed down rather dramatically compared to the first week of sales, and unsurprisingly enough, the closer we get to Christmas, the more copies of New Super Mario Bros. Wii we seem to be selling. We can hardly keep it in stock now. Every shipment we get is gone within a few days, and the shipments aren't very small.

The color of Mario, and the shape/color of the stars is very close to the "Murakami" design.

Nintendo games tend to be at top of charts for very long time, very long tail.
And with Xmas coming up its going to do even better.
I think that by end of January(to account for the sales n folks spending xmas cash) this game will have an easy 5-7 million under its belt. Don't need to be Pachter to figure that one out.

1. Halo 3 was on one single platform (X360) and not three like Modern Warfare 2.
2. Xbox 360 had a smaller install base than we current do by millions.
So it's not exactly a fair comparison by NPD in my opinion.

it will but it will be gradual turn of events. yeah the u.s console market does seem to favor the xbox360 but in japan and europe, there is a much different story told.

Personally I doubt it will ever happen. The American system is popular in NA, while the Japanese system is popular in Japan. Not a shocker really. Especially when MS clearly knows how to cater to NA tastes better (Hint: We like our online features in these parts. As far as consoles go, you can't top the 360's).

who cares really.
at the end of the day, it always boils down to personal preference. numbers dont matter in the slightest as long if you feel your investment in either system has been worth it. is that not what should matter in the end ?

But at the same time I think install base does matter because a company can't sustain their business model if their consoles don't sell (ie. Sega). I'd hate to see one console end up dominating and eventually killing off others.

with that said, i have no problem with the healthy competition between ms and sony. what i dont like nor do i appreciate are the fanboys and such who come out of the woodwork declaring that the other console is a failure, and its amusing to note that ms fanboys are far more explicit or aggressive then those of the ps3 or even the wii. perhaps this serves as evidence of what age group favours the other...to be honest, seeing mid- late 20's insulting the xbox 360 while standing up for the ps3 is something i have yet to ever see and is quite absurd. it is usually the hardcore kids under 20 who curse at the ps3's existence and make some sort of self-righteous declaration of the xbox 360's supposed 'superiority'.

As for fanboys, well, they're fanboys. There always seems to be so many of them, but it's more than likely because they are so vocal, esp. on the web. I don't expect them to change, and if someone is such a rabid fanboy that they actually ignore a system because of simple fanboy hate, it's their loss.
If it wasn't for the fact I traded in all my 360 games, I probably would pick up a newer model 360 again. As it stands though, I'm gunning for a Wii instead as there aren't any 360 exclusives in the horizon that make me want to get another one. Although when Gears of War 3 comes out... :D

i had an xbox 360. i sold it to a younger cousin of mine. i had always been a large supporter of the sony brand; i had over 30 games for the ps2, so getting a ps3 just less then 2 years ago just made sense. it didnt make sense to have both systems knowing i was slowly losing interest in the xbox 360. i saw the capabilities of the ps3 and that made me want to support it even more. i think the xbox360 is a great console, it has its selectionof great games but to compare its longevity to the ps3, and anyone can see why those who are media/gaming enthusiasts who want to keep the same kind of system turn to the ps3.
both my gaming and bluray movie library is growing literally by the month - if there is no game i purchase by the end of the month, i know there is at least one movie which would take its place - especially since the cost of blurays have gone down recently.

Anyway, considering how Nintendo games usually sells.. NSMBWii should eventually sell more then MW2.. In a year or so.

Further in Reggie's defence, what he said was that NSMBWii would outsell *one* of the SKUs of MW2 come January NPD.
And it is only 500K behind the PS3 SKU.
Likely he will be right.
