Report Casts Doubt On GTA IV Related Stabbing

A stabbing reported by the BBC to have occurred by a perpetrator waiting in line for a midnight UK launch of Grand Theft Auto IV may be completely unrelated and the result of "media panic" according to conflicting reports. VNU cites GamesRadar as the source, which credits a GameStation employee who told the outlet that the crime committed against a passer-by "had categorically not pre-ordered the game" and that the victim was not in the store's queue.

Theories abound that drunken pub goers nearby had been the ones getting all stabby. We're not sure who to believe in this case, the BBC (sorry, who?) or some guy who works at GameStation who cracked the case for GamesRadar. It's all so confusing and tangential, but at least we got a fun story out of it! :(

360 GTA IV Is Region-Locked

This won't be terribly useful to Americans or PS3 owners, but anyone in Europe looking to score a cheap imported copy of GTA IV (or anyone in Australia looking to score the uncensored American version) should know that the 360 version of the game's been region-locked by the publisher. I only point this out because, over the past twelve months, nearly every single major 360 release has been region-free, meaning Take-Two joins MTV (ie Rock Band) as two of the last publishers to still make the decision to restrict the international sale of their games.

Not Planning DS or Wii Price Cuts This Year

Hoping for cheaper DSs and Wiis? Hope some more, and then after that, hope some more. Ain't gonna happen says Nintendo. While Nintendo's competitors have slashed prices, Nintendo is being conservative. Nintendo doesn't need to cut no stinking prices! Says company president Satoru Iwata:

Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don't think we are going to need them.

Yesterday, Nintendo said its operating profit more than doubled last year. And yet, the company isn't passing that along to future consumers. Why? Nintendo is a business. Nintendo is not your buddy, Mr. Consumer. (That is, unless you own Nintendo stock, then you're BFF.)

New Zealand Won't Forget Atari

People in New Zealand have obviously forgotten their video game heritage. It's gotten so bad that advertising firm Republic was commissioned to create a series of advertisements aimed at reminding the nation of movie extras exactly where their current sports console games came from. I think this is a good start, but we need more. What we need - and what I would provide had I the time - is Saint George and the Dragon, only with the classic Adventure duck-dragon in place of the ferocious beast. Ah, for the good old days, when I could spend lazy hours photoshopping the Trix rabbit into "The Last Supper."

DualShock 3 Dated For US

We have more word from retailer conference Destination PlayStation: the DualShock 3—you know, that DualShock we've been waiting for since the PS3's launch—has gotten a US release date.

Set to launch April 15th for $54.99, it's slated to coincide with the release of GT5 Prologue. Oh yes, feel those engines roar through your controller and make your SIXAXIS-wielding friends envious...like they're just playing a video game or something.

UPDATE: Sony has confirmed all of this information. Press release on the jump.

Week in Games: Bizarre Mix Edition

It's a bizarre mix of games this week and seeing as I am busy unpacking a myriad of boxes, much of this week will be devoted to that rather than gaming. Although I'm sure I'll be able to sneak some in here and there. Are any of this week's releases going to make on your shopping list?

FlatOut: Head On (PC, PSP)
Crash cars and blow stuff up.

Samurai Warriors: Katana (WII)
Swing your katana in this Samurai Warriors spin off.

Rail Simulator (PC)
You can make trains too, just like the big boys.

More mini games for the Wii.

Week in Games: Silent Hill Origins Edition

The flood of amazing game titles seems to have ebbed a bit this week which my beleaguered bank account is most thankful for. Silent Hill: Origins will be my purchase this week as I try to plow through the last two week's worth of purchases. Anything on the list catch your eye?

Silent Hill: Origins (PSP)
Take a prequel visit to creepy Silent Hill and see how it got so creepy.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (X360, PC, PS3, DS)
World War II is finally over.

Empire Earth III (PC)
take your empire from humble beginnings to outer space.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (WII)
A dubious pairing. But who will win?

Gears of War (PC)
Marcus Fenix and his scarred legions arrive on the PC.

The Simpsons Game (PSP)
D'oh! Just a week behind.

Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War (X360, PS3)
Think Dynasty Warriors in medieval Europe.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (WII, X360, PS3, DS)
Relive Star Wars through the blocky world of Legos.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (WII)
Charge of the Dawn Brigade.

F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate (PC)
I fear another expansion is in the works.

F.E.A.R. Files (X360)
Both F.E.A.R expansion packs in one fancy package

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (PC)
If the original wasn't enough for you.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (DS)
Hunt for monsters and make them do your bidding.

Bee Movie Game (WII)
Ok, let's be honest. Does anyone really care?
