The main focus this year at the NECA booth seems to have been Street Fighter IV and Gears of War, the two great tastes that sounds great together when said out loud. We've seen many of the figures already, but a few are new. I'm really digging their take on urban vinyl for the two properties, and I definitely need a Crimson Viper figure so I can profess my love for her in person.

Thank goodness I didn't say that out loud.

<![CDATA[NECA's BioShock Toys Are Disturbingly Awesome]]> NECA's Comic-Con 2009 display was chock full of BioShock playthings, from sisters big and little to full-sized ADAM extractors.

As we saw last week, NECA is taking great care to make sure their line of BioShock toys is of the highest quality, staying as faithful as possible to the game designs.

I find it nice that they are creating props as well, with the full-sized ADAM extractor finally bringing kids something to help them learn about he joys of...I really cannot think of anything joyful here, though if you look closely you'll spot mine and McWhertor's shoes, which I suppose is kind of fun.

<![CDATA[BioShock Action Figures Ready To Set Bees Upon Comic-Con]]> A few weeks back, toy-makers NECA announced a line of BioShock figures, which we didn't post because without pics, the announcement meant nothing. Now that there's pics, though, well, that's another story!

Due to be officially unveiled at Comic-Con, there's currently a few figures scheduled: a Big Sister, a Little Sister, a Splicer and a few variants of the Big Daddy. Those waiting for an Andrew Ryan's Office playset, complete with swinging golf club action, will have to wait.

<![CDATA[Army Of Two Figures Bring Total Fistbump Destruction To The Playground]]> EA and toymakers NECA have announced that the stars of Army of Two are going to get their very own action figures.

You can see images of the prototype figures above, and while there's no information regarding release dates or any other figures in the line, it'd be weird if they weren't released alongside Army of Two: The 40th Day later this year.

God I hope you press a button on the back and they fistbump/pat each other gruffly on the ass.

<![CDATA[Toy Fair 2009: Dante's Inferno, Gears Of War & More]]> The New York Toy Fair kicked off over the weekend. And video games being big business and all, there were loads of new gaming figures on show. Loads.

DANTE'S INFERNO - First up, though (and these are all courtesy of Toy News International), we'll start with perhaps the most interesting figure of the weekend. Which is this one, to the left, giving us our first good look at the protagonist from EA's upcoming take on Dante's Inferno. Reminds me of Altair...if Altair had to give up the assassin business and get by selling his body. It's due sometime later in 2009

GEARS OF WAR 2 - Three new Gears of War 2 figures were on show: a Locust flamethrower, your trusty robot companion Jack and a Ticker. A surprisingly cute, buck-toothed Ticker. These guys (along with the Boomer, which wasn't pictured) will all be out later this year.

GUITAR HERO - God knows who these are intended for. They're 3-inch cartoon figures for Guitar Hero, but look more like something you'd buy from a dollar store. Seriously, Activision, McFarlane, give up on this crap already.

STREET FIGHTER - Now we're talking. The Akuma looks frightfully accurate, and the Guile, delightfully brutish, but this second wave - following up from the Ryu, Ken and Crimson Viper annouced earlier - is dominated by Chun-Li's thighs. Look at them! Kristin Kreuk, look at them!

AND THE REST...- The video game-related gear winds up with these leftovers, comprising NECA's Player Select Line and the only really new stuff McFarlane showed for their Halo line. From NECA, final (or near-final) sculpts of their Prototype and Dead Space figures, while from McFarlane, it's a first look at "Halo Stylised".

You can check out more pics, plus a full run-down of the Fair, at Toy News International.

<![CDATA[Gears Of War 2 Figures Grant Your Chainsaw Diorama Wishes]]> While NECA's first lines of Gears of War figures lagged badly behind the release of the original game, their third line - featuring Gears of War 2 characters - is a little more punctual.

Series 3 will comprise 6 figures: a new Marcus Fenix, a COG soldier and three Locust (Theron Palace Guard, Grappler and Cyclops), along with the line highlight, a two-figure set depicting Marcus chainsawing the shit out of some Locust drone.

All six (the five figures and the chainsaw two-fer) will be out later this month.

<![CDATA[Resident Evil 5 Figures For Your Resident Evil 5 Playtime]]> From emerging game figure POWERHOUSE NECA come these Resident Evil 5 figures. The first line will feature three characters, each of them 7" tall, and should be out early next year.

The three are stars Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, along with that fat bloke with the GIANT axe/hammer that's starred in most of the trailers you've seen so far for the game.

<![CDATA[Street Fighter IV Figures Are Ugly, Yet Poseable]]> Street Fighter IV's unique graphical style looks pretty good when you see it on a screen. Different, yes, and it's taken a little while to get used to, but when you see it moving, it looks pretty great. These Street Fighter IV figures from NECA, though...show that maybe the character's plastic representations shouldn't have been made so literal. Especially since Ken looks a little slow, and Ryu looks like a monkey taking a crap. Pics are at the link below (don't worry, there'll be plenty more than just the three so far spotted).

<![CDATA[Replica Gears Lancers Broken, Here's How You Fix 'Em]]> Having problems making your new replica Gears of War Lancer Assault Rifle go "pew pew pew"? You're not alone. Turns out there are a ton of people whose guns are kinda busted, thanks to a manufacturing error whereby every single gun had its battery connectors wired for Asian batteries, not US or European ones. Never knew there was any difference, but hey, there you go. Seems this meant that when you pulled the trigger, your batteries weren't doing anything, and your gun, it wasn't doing anything either. Makers NECA have come up with a workaround for the problem ("a small thin metal plate, with instruction sheet"), click through for details on how to get your hands on one (as well as the full statement).

Gears of War LANCER Replica Production Issue
11/11/2008

During production of the Lancer, some of the plastic enclosures had a piece reversed, which had no effect on batteries made in Asia. The Asian batteries have longer contact points and made the connection each time.

On some batteries made in the US and Europe the reversed piece does not allow for the batteries to make the connection. We have already developed a solution (a small thin metal plate, with instruction sheet) and we will gladly mail the metal plate to anyone with issues. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please email me your name and mailing address to melaniecATnecaonlineDOTcom if you are encountering this problem.

<![CDATA[New Gears Of War 2 Action Figures]]> The National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) continue their almost single handed quest to collect all the dust in the northern hemisphere with their range of shelf-filling collectibles.

Next up is a set of Gears of War 2 dolls action figures we first saw some advance shots of in June. There is a new Marcus Fenix figurine, an even 'orribler looking Locust Theron Guard and two more of Marcus' chums from Delta Squad.

As usual, the models are absurdly detailed, not that the people who will buy them will ever take them out of the packaging to find this out. Honestly, NECA could really save on manufacturing costs by only modeling the front bits. The savings on plastic alone could treble their 3rd quarter operating costs.

<![CDATA[NECA Pimps Gaming Toy Line Up At Comic-Con]]> Toy make NECA gets a sizable slice of the Comic-Con show floor and it draws a huge crowd. We've seen a constant line at the company's booth as Comic-Conners queue up to grab those show exclusives. NECA's product line is heavy with video game licenses, with Gears of War, Prototype, God of War, Tomb Raider, Rayman's Raving Rabbids, Bionic Commando and others representing in plastic, poseable form. Hit up the gallery below to get a quick look at NECA's wares.

<![CDATA[Bionic Commando Action Figure Spotted]]> Spotted at the 2008 Licensing show held in New York a couple weeks back, this is a prototype of NECA's Nathan Spencer action figure, due in the Fall. Looks even more detailed than their Gears figures, which is saying something. No official details on it yet, but you can pass the time between now and the time you find out how much it costs by admiring the craftsmanship on those hot dogs wonderfully redesigned hydraulic arm cables.

<![CDATA[NECA's Gears Of War: Series 2]]>
You've seen series 1. Both here and, now, in stores. So time for all you toy adult collectible collectors to start psyching yourself for series two of NECA's Gears of War line. Pictured here are the four figures that'll comprise the batch: Dom, Baird and two variants of the Theron Guards, one with helmet, one sans helmet but with his best ANGRY FACE.

<![CDATA[NECA's Gears Of War Box Set]]> Oh, hey, those Gears of War figures are out. If you’re after one or two, great, hope you got ‘em. If you’re after all four of them, this may be of interest: NECA are to release a box set, which includes all four Gears of War figures in the one pack plus a couple of minor additions, like a new Locust head and the Hammer of Dawn. No word on price yet, but it should be out in a few weeks time.

<![CDATA[Comic-Con Exclusive Gears Figure Is Here Today, Gone Very Soon]]> Going to Comic-Con in San Diego this year? May as well pick a couple of these up, make some cash money off some die-hard Gears fans unable to make the trip. This NECA Gears figure will only be available at this year's Comic-Con, and depicts Delta Squad's Anthony Carmine, presumably only moments before his untimely demise. A pic so big you can almost smell that newly-opened toy smell is after the jump.

<![CDATA[NECA Announce Fourth Gears Of War Figure]]> And here we were thinking there were only three Gears of War figures from NECA. Hah. How wrong wrong wrong we were. Turns out there's four figures, with the fourth announced today as being a Locust Sharpshooter. He comes with a great big gun and beady little goggles, and will be shipping right alongside the other three figures in April.

<![CDATA[Assassin's Creed: The Action Figure]]> Being a bit of a toy collector myself, I used to subscribe to ToyFare because it was an excellent bathroom reading material. Then one day they realized I had never actually paid for my subscription, which is why the folks over at bits, bytes, pixels and sprites caught this highly detailed NECA figure of Altair from Assassin's Creed. It's due out in November to coincide with the game's release, and will most likely end up a one shot. Assassin's just don't lend themselves well to plucky, action-figure friendly sidekicks.

<![CDATA[NECA's Castlevania Figs That *Don't* Suck]]> The 8-bit take on Castlevania's Simon Belmont was so bad, some made concessions for it, thinking it was made of delicious milk chocolate. Not true. This series of Castlevania sculpts, leaning heavily toward Castlevania: Symphony of the Night helps to redeem NECA just a bit. In fact, the company's inclusion of a bare breasted succubus is good enough to maybe pull them out of the muck for their Comic Con exclusive mistake.

<![CDATA[Castlevania Simon Belmont Comic Con Exclusive Confirmed To Suck]]> After standing in line at the NECA booth to secure this painfully awful Simon Belmont... thing that's not only an eyesore to anyone with a modicum of respectable taste, but also a Comic Con 07 exclusive(!), I realized I was the only one of dozens to point at this ghastly monstrosity and semi-convincingly utter "I want that!" Confirming that my glass case poking was directed at this garish waste of ten dollars, the NECA booth girl handed it over.

"Just one?" she said. "Are you joking?" I thought.

Even though I knew that this was nothing more than a joke purchase and will ultimately be destroyed by myself (or a lucky reader!) I still felt like a sucker. I can confirm that, yes, this thing is indeed disgusting to look at in real life but it does not, as Luke suspected, to actually be molded human excrement.

Final grade: F. Will mock again.
