How does the intensity and excitement of differential diagnosis translate onto the iPhone?

Like this, apparently. I have no idea what the hell is going on in this screenshot, but I'm interested in finding out. House M.D. seems to be a puzzle game of sorts, translating the rather dry diagnosis elements of the show into more readily-digestible puzzle bits. You are still using logic and reasoning in a way...you're just doing it in a more colorful fashion.

The game allows you to listen to your own music while you play, and there's a Facebook tie-in that lets you diagnose and save your friends from hideous rare diseases that are almost guaranteed to not be lupus. It's NEVER lupus.

I think I would have preferred a fighting game, but this will do in a pinch. House M.D. is now available on the App Store for $2.99.

Note: I called it an NBC show because it is produced in association with Universal Media Studios, the production arm of NBC Universal Television Group. This confused some of you, so I just put FOX up there.

<![CDATA[Kathie Lee Butchers The Beatles]]> Kathie Lee Gifford had a Hard Day's Night playing The Beatles: Rock Band on NBC's Today Show. Thankfully Candace Bushnell and
Jennie Garth were there to put a stop to the madness.

I never imagined in a million years that I would have cause to thank 90210's Jennie Garth for anything. It just goes to show how funny the world can be, unless you're watching the Today Show.

<![CDATA[Helping Jimmy: Video Game Ideas We'd Like to See on the Fallon Show [Update]]]> Real or a put-on, Jimmy Fallon's apparent love of video games gives our favorite hobby quite a late night stage on NBC, so why not make the best of it?

Fallon sent someone to cover E3, played Tiger Woods a round of golf on the Wii and checked out Project Natal, but I think there are some major opportunities he's still missing.

Here's our short list of some video gaming guests and ideas that should take center stage on the show this year:

5. Video Game Club: Oprah has her book club, why can't Fallon have his video game club? We've played around with the idea of playing through older, classic and less known games over the period of a month and meeting to talk about them. And I certainly haven't given up on the idea, but wouldn't it be great to see Fallon push the idea a bit on his show?

Maybe he could pick a game and bring one of the developers on the show to talk about it for five minutes. Granted, with a mainstream audience and the show's fast pacing, I don't think this will ever happen. That's why it's number five.

4. Get Serious: You know, video games aren't just about playing. There's plenty of serious, interesting topics that gaming touches on. Just ask Ian Bogost and Steven Johnson, both of whom have appeared on The Colbert Report to talk about their thinky-take on gaming.

3. Do the Con Con: Watching Jason Sudekis tear up E3 for Fallon's show just left us wanting more. If Sudeikis can have that much fun at E3, imagine what he'd do at Cologne's Gamescom, which features the public and plenty of alcohol, or the Tokyo Games Show, which features... well, Japan. If Sudekis can't make Cologne maybe he could get David Hasselhoff because you know the German's love Hasselhoff.

2. Peter Molyneux: He's witty, smart and has a keen British accent: Why wouldn't you want Molyneux on a late night show? Plus now he can talk about the creepy child he keeps locked up in his Xbox 360.

1. Tim Schafer: When I talked to Fallon about his love of gaming last month, he mentioned trying to book Double Fine's Tim Schafer and Jack Black for the show. Great idea, but why do you need Black? Schafer is as funny, or funnier than the bombastic comedian, and his crazy hair is made for TV. Do it! Do it now!

Update: Late Night With Jimmy Fallon co-producer (and former Attack of the Show executive producer) Gavin Purcell tells Kotaku that the show is already working on a few of the ideas I listed here. "Ultimately," he says, "it's finding what works in the format."

<![CDATA[Today Hosts Play Rock Band, Hilarity Ensues]]>
Oh my god. This is not something anyone should have to wake up to. The hosts of NBC's Today, Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker, and Natalie Morales take on Bon Jovi's "Living On A Prayer" in front of a live crowd on the streets of New York City and somehow survive. While Roker is just a C away from rocking out on the drums, becoming Al Rocker, Meredith is definitely the ironic weakest link in this all-star rock band. Thanks to Dan for sending us the link.

<![CDATA[NBC Readying XIII Mini-Series, Forgettable FPS To Remain Forgotten]]> Ubisoft's cel-shaded first person shooter XIII—based on the Belgian comic book series of the same name—didn't exactly blow back the gaming community's hair. Despite a fairly big marketing thrust from the French publisher and a four platform push on the PC, Gamecube, Xbox and PlayStation 2, it would appear we won't ever see a XIII II. Fans of the series will be thrilled to learn, however, that broadcaster NBC has picked up the property for a mini-series to air this winter.

XIII will feature the electric performances of white hot superstars Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff, chronicling the adventures of a tattooed amnesiac in the wake of a presidential assassination. Its said to be both "adrenaline-charged" and "gripping", leaving audiences "gasping for more." I'm so excited to potentially asphyxiate while watching!

<![CDATA[Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal Announced]]> Confession: I've never watched more than 5 minutes of Law & Order. But since I know most of the world is crazy-nutso for it, I feel it necessary to share the news on Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal, a new game for cellphones coming soon for $6.99. With gameplay sounding a lot like Phoenix Wright (you collect clues at the crime scene, interview witnesses, and present clues during the proper moments of the trial) and a branding that, according to my mom's DVR, is pure crack—who knows? It could actually be decent...for a cellphone game.

For the Law & Order buffs, here are all the details (cue that annoying Law & Order sound effect that's played like 1,000 times/episode).

NBC UNIVERSAL AND LIMELIFE PARTNER TO LAUNCH NEW MOBILE GAME - "LAW & ORDER: CELEBRITY BETRAYAL" - BASED ON THE LONG-RUNNING CRIME DRAMA "LAW & ORDER"

"Ripped From The Headlines" Game Draws Users Into Challenging Celebrity Murder Case

(NEW YORK) - March 11, 2008 - NBC Universal and LimeLife, Inc. today announced the launch of "Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal(tm)," the mobile game extension for NBC's long-running crime drama, "Law & Order," now in its 18th season. Capturing the fast-paced drama and intrigue of the hit series, "Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" will draw players into a complex murder mystery where they will interact with cast members, interrogate witnesses, solve the crime and proceed to trial. Executive Producer Dick Wolf and his team were instrumental in developing the game with LimeLife to reflect the signature storytelling and energy of "Law & Order."

"One of the contributors to the show's longevity has been its commitment to evolve with the times and stay fresh which includes allowing our audience to experience 'Law & Order' in different ways and on different screens," said Dick Wolf, creator and executive producer of "Law & Order." "'Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal' is the closest fans of the show can come to experiencing a day in the life of their favorite 'Law & Order' characters."

"'Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal' delivers the same suspense and procedural drama that have kept 'Law & Order' an audience favorite for 18 seasons and one of the most successful brands in television history," said Jeremy Laws, Senior Vice President, Mobile & Broadband, Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group. "We know that fans of the series will really enjoy the chance to immerse themselves in the crime solving and trial experience that they have come to love on the show." Laws continued, "Creating mobile games based on popular television series like 'Law & Order' is one way NBC Universal is looking to extend our audiences' experience with the brand."

"NBC excels at creating seamless digital experiences for all of its brands," said Kristin McDonnell, CEO of LimeLife, Inc. "We are pleased to support NBC's cross-media integration strategy, delivering the 'Law & Order' brand experience to show fans and crime buffs alike on their mobile phones."

How to Play "Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal"

Players work to solve New York City's latest celebrity crime by investigating the crime scene, interrogating witnesses and bringing their key suspect to trial. The object of the game is to build as strong a case as possible and win a conviction with contextual advice and feedback from popular Law & Order cast members like Sam Waterston and Alana De La Garza. Players exhibit the evidence they have collected throughout every stage of the story during the game's complete trial experience, and try to win a conviction to become the rookie "Law & Order" star.

"Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" also features four mini-games that directly affect the strength of a player's case. At the game's precinct location, players can help process evidence and obtain warrants by playing the Warrant Race game, and search for rumors playing the Coffee Run game. While in court, players can try their luck at Case Overload or Takeout Dash.

"Law & Order: Celebrity Betrayal" will be available for a one-time download charge of $6.99 or $2.99 monthly subscription fee (where available) on most major U.S. carriers. Consumers should check with their carrier for availability and handset compatibility.

<![CDATA[Heroes Cop Just Not Condemned Enough]]> You may know Greg Grunberg as the mind-reading cop from, NBC's Heroes, but you may also know Greg Grunberg from even earlier in his career, as the protagonist from Condemned: Criminal Origins. So now that he's on a geek-hit TV show, you'd think he'd be a hot commodity for Condemned 2: Bloodshot. But you'd think wrong. From Monolith's Dave Hasle:

We struggled with this one somewhat. Greg was a pleasure to work with, and he was willing to make the time to work with us on “Condemned 2,” but we felt we wanted a darker, edgier tone...We loved Greg’s work on “Condemned; Criminal Origins” and found him to be a great voice talent as well as a fantastic person to work with. It was purely a directional choice.
Purely directional, aye? Or was it that you didn't like Mr. Grunberg reading your mind?

One of NBC's shaky pilots this season is a show called Chuck. In it Chuck Bartowski accidentally downloads the countries top secrets into his brain... whoops. Of course now Chuck has to transform from computer geek to spy to help save the world, weekly.

And what better way to quickly identify a nerd than to slap a copy of PC Gamer in his hands. Right? [Thanks Drew]

<![CDATA["The Office" Game]]> Oh, you heard right. Bobble-head versions of your favorite Dunder Mifflin employees from NBC's The Office will be available for you to play in MumboJumbo's new video game coming out in the fall. The Office game will be accessible as an online download for your PC, PSP, or Nintendo DS. It will play similarly to how Diner Dash does, but would also feature audio and video content from the show. Playing as Jim, you will have to interact with the other employees at the Scranton office and (I guess) do your job, though I've never really seen Jim do his job on the show. Of course, it's too bad you can only play as Jim. A Trivial Pursuit game based on Dwight's "FACT"s could have been the shit.

<![CDATA[New Heavenly Sword Footage On Tonight's Heroes]]>

Viewers of tonight's episode of the NBC hit Heroes ("Like Any Parasite") will have one more reason to geek out, as brand new footage of the upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 game Heavenly Sword will be shown.

About 8 seconds of real-time footage will be shown of Ninja Theory's hack and slash action game, most of it focusing on the timed button pressing cinematic moments similar to Shenmue's quick time events or the boss battles in God of War. How's it look? From what I've seen of last night's early Canadian broadcast, pretty freakin' amazing. YouTube doesn't do it justice.

Thanks for the heads up, Kyle.
