First, we have breasts. They never fail to draw a crowd. Second, slapping some logos and character art on an automobile. Third, alternate reality game. When these three have been either vetoed as tasteless, stale or consuming of too much manpower, they default to their rare alt—shoes. Sneakerheads will cover the cost and at least one Kotaku editor will post about their existence, ensuring the program is a success.

To wit, the NBA Live 08 Gil II Zero, Gilbert Arenas' signature shoe in an EA Sports-appropriate colorway. That the cover star of this years hoops effort already has his own shoe design is simply serendipity. Looks like only one retailer is offering them, for around $130 US, so unless you consider these "straight fire", move along.

<![CDATA[Week in Games: Phantom Hourglass Edition]]>
I'm so behind on games right now after Tokyo that I really shouldn't be buying anything new, but I fear that the siren call of Phantom Hourglass will be too strong to resist. What's on your game purchasing horizon this week?

<![CDATA[NBA Live 08 To Feature Disappearing Players]]> It's no secret that the screenshots marketing departments distribute are regularly touched up by someone in the art department. As they're often not indicative of actual gameplay, what's the harm? None. No one wants to look at ugly screenshots. However, today's screenshot debacle comes from EA's NBA Live 08, also famous for the hilarious single-wheeled car shot from The Godfather. Can't quite see what the hubbub is about, bub? Make the jumpshot for a detailed pic.

Oopsie! Either someone forgot to review the art assets for NBA Live 08 or an unspecified player for the Raptors is about to be wiped out of existence forever because his parents are in danger of never sharing a magical kiss at the Enchantment Under The Sea dance.

<![CDATA['Wait' Draft Commercial]]> During last night's 2007 NBA Draft, EA's Live 08 commercials began airing. The three commercials feature Washington Wizard's point guard Gilbert Arenas and new NBA rookie Kevin Durant discussing the finer points of playing the game. This is my favorite of all three, probably because it feels like some of the stuff Arenas says feels improvised. And, uh, oh yeah, I don't know a thing about basketball. What in the heck is a "shoot button"?!
