Jordan is the one human being on the face of the planet I still idolize, that I would be absolutely star-struck if I ever saw in person. I mean, there's no-one else like Jordan.
I don't want to hear anything about Kobe. He wasn't even the best player on his first three Finals teams, hasn't had near the longevity of absolute, unbridaled excellence, or charisma.
He was on the 2002 team. Also, Jordan's charisma was a product of incredible marketing. If you listened to Jordan's Hall of Fame acceptance speech, you will see that behind the PR speak, he is really a huge dick.
Doesn't mean he isn't the greatest to lace up on the hardwood. Just means he wasn't what Nike portrayed his personality to be.
@maraxusofk: Watched his HOF speech. He's an ultra-competitive SOB, it's been widely reported. Do you really think he could have been the best if he wasn't?
Have you ever heard the phrase, "Don't confuse the artist with the art"?
@ysdarkfact: this and the ending of the titans/rams super bowl were the two most amazing things i had ever seen... even if the titans came up a yard shy which made me incredibly upset that fateful night lol
Man, that made me nostalgic. Gonna have to go home and plug in some of my MJ videos.
Don't care what people say about lebron or kobe....nobody brought as much grace, talent, raw determination or moments where you couldn't help but hold your breath as time slowed down for that fade-away jumper at the buzzer for the win. Nobody!
@Capp: yep, although im 21, i rarely remember MJ playing, but he is def. the greatest player of all time (or one, depending on who talking) but Kobe, needs some props too, in this day and age Kobe is the man, i barley watch any basketball, but i watched the final 10 seconds of that Lakers game with Kobe hitting the buzzer beater. its just amazing on what these top players can do.
@d4rlp3nc1l: I'm not saying Kobe and Lebron aren't talented, they are. But in my opinion they are only offensive players. When is the last time either of them did anything useful on defense or racked up high stats for assists/rebounds? Never. MJ was voted Defensive Player of the year more than once, all the while maintaining his scoring records. He played all areas of the court. He always had a high number of assists, and rebounds. Kobe/Lebron's stats are always about shots taken and points made. If you watch enough of MJ's highlight films, you will see a reoccurring theme and it will involve him stealing the ball, or blocking the shot, then hauling ass to the other end of the court to make the play.
@Capp: You clearly don't watch enough basketball if you don't think that Kobe is an elite defensive player. Just type "Kobe Defense" in YouTube. He's been on the All-Defensive Team 9 times in his career, 7 of those times being on the First team.
LeBron used to lack in his defensive skills, but if you've seen him play much this past year, you'll notice he's grown into a great defensive player as well (still not the defender Kobe is, though). Also, LeBron averages 7 rebounds and 7 assists per game for his career, along with his nearly 1 block per game and 1.7 steals. Not too shabby. Watch his highlights of blocking dunks and layups on the fast break. He hustles on both ends of the court.
@Quaro: I believe it's more a sponsor thing, rather than his own ego, he seems a rather humble guy.
I think it's Nike that would have to be paid a shiteload of money.
It's the same situation with LeBron, but since he's a current player he still has to be on the game. But he's the last big current player who hasn't been on the cover of a game yet, due to sponsor issues I believe.
@☆Y2Jason☆: Y2Jason, Jordan wasn't even in the video games when he was an active player.
And I wouldn't put Jordan at humble, his recent Hall of Fame induction speech seems to contradict that. But the man has skills, there's no reason for him to be humble.
@hansamurai: He was playable in NBA Live 2001. And he was unbelievably broken. And I mean beyond how unbelievable broken he was in real life. I remember him scorching me for 84 points in one game.
