GameStop Sponsors Race Car With Call of Duty Skin

Watch NASCAR much and you notice the winning driver's post-race genuflection to his sponsors can get to be a mouthful. So it's probably a good thing Joey Logano finished 16th in last night's Food City 250 at Bristol, Tenn. in stock car racing's Nationwide series. Otherwise Logano would be like: "Well, Jerry, we just have a super group of guys on the Call of Duty World at War GameStop Joe Gibbs Racing Number 20 Toyota team. Just a great car, ran super good and I'm glad we could get a win for the Call of Duty World at War GameStop Joe Gibbs Racing Number 20 Toyota team.

"I thought we was gonna run out of gas there at the end but I got a nice push from my teammate Jerry Jeff Jeeter McPheeter racin' in the Peter Jackson's King Kong The Official Game of the Movie ... Number ... 14 ..." [starts breathing into paper sack].

Goshdangit! My NASCAR 09 Gamesave Done Blowed Up!

WTF is going on at EA Sports? First came the manifold glitches and problems in NCAA 09, now we're seeing accounts of corrupt profiles forcing Xbox 360 racers to ditch their gamesaves and start all over.

After reaching a certain level of progress — the theory is cumulative laps driven, as it's struck gamers at differing points in their careers — the profile becomes corrupted and freezes the game right at the load screen. There is no other way to play the game except to delete the file and start all over. You can see a video of it here — but it takes 7 minutes to explain what was just said above. There is, however, a swell parakeet whistling in the background.

Of course, using a memory stick and disabling auto-save is one workaround. That doesn't help anyone who had no idea he'd bought a defective game and finds out about this after putting 20 or 30 hours worth of effort into it.

Reader S.H. (who tipped us here) says EA Sports is not responding to forum posts, emails or any calls for help (which the video helpfully points out). No wonder they're putting Peter Moore's face into a boxing game. That'll probably crash, too.

Seriously, EA Sports, why is it amateur hour all of a sudden? What the fuck is the matter with you people?

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Does NASCAR

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you living, speeding proof that Activision is officially marketing the living hell out of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Presenting the Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Target Chip Ganassi Racing number 40 Dodge, appearing June 29th at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway to commemorate the launch of the game. This beast will be piloted by Ganassi's Dario Franchitti, who is just pleased as punch.

“I love video games and actually have versions of Guitar Hero that I play on my bus and at home. To have Target, Activision and Aerosmith on my car for the New Hampshire race is pretty cool,” said Franchitti. “Who doesn’t love Aerosmith’s music? It’s perfect for getting ready for the side-by-side, non-stop action of NASCAR racing.”

In addition to the co-branded race car, Target stores will also be selling a special Wii bundle for GH: Aerosmith that includes 2 wireless controllers and a tour book for $149.99. You might as well just buy the damn game before Activision starts marketing on you. Believe me, it's extremely difficult to breathe in a full vinyl wraparound.

Jeff Gordon Is The Face Of NASCAR 09

Gamers racing to picked up EA's NASCAR 09 when it hits store shelves this June will be greeted by the smiling face of NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon. The four-time Winston Cup, three-time Daytona 500 winner will be lending more than his face to the franchise, as he will also be acting as your guide and mentor throughout this year's new career mode, "Sprint for the Cup".
"It's exciting being on the cover of NASCAR 09," says Gordon. "The game is as real as it gets and it's been great being involved with it on this level. I look forward to helping gamers in NASCAR 09."
Awww, the guy is just too damn nice. It also helps that he is the only person in the entire world I would instantly recognize as a NASCAR driver, mainly due to his cameo in Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Sad, I know. More »

Peter Moore Goes NASCAR

By John Gaudiosi

HOMESTEAD, FL—New EA Sports President Peter Moore was at Miami Speedway over the weekend to hand out the $10,000 check to NASCAR Challenge winner Brandon Coppinger of Nashville, TN. Before heading to a meeting with the NASCAR drivers to talk videogames, Moore took some time for this exclusive Kotaku interview.

When asked how the unique NASCAR experience compared to his F1 racing, the Brit said that F1 had gotten boring for a while because Michael Schumacher seemed to win every race. Moore was recently in London, where he had the opportunity to meet the latest F1 sensation, Lewis Hamilton.

"Between Hamilton and the scandal involving the exchange of information between McLaren and Ferrari, F1 is getting more interesting," said Moore. "But. I'll tell you, there's nothing like a NASCAR race. This is my first NASCAR race in the flesh, although I follow the circuit."

Halo Car Red Rings, Wii Car Takes Second in Race

With the release of Halo 3 just days away the ultimate faceoff went down over the weekend at the Dover Speedway: Halo 3 took on the Wii in the form of a NASCAR racing pitting Greg Biffle versus David Stremme.

Exactly 306 laps into the 440 lap race Stremme's number 40 car blew its engine and sidelined the racer. No, I'm not making that up: The Halo car got a red ring of death.

Meanwhile Biffle's Wii mobile landed a respectable second place. Ouch.

Wii Versus Halo 3 At Dover

This weekend at the Dover Speedyway, it isn't a battle of Ford versus Dodge. It's not #16's Greg Biffle versus #40's David Stremme. This is a battle between the Wii and Halo 3. Last week we told you about the Halo 3 car that would be racing at the Nextel Cup preview event, but Nintendo dropped us a line to let us know that more than one gaming property would be represented on the track. I see one of two things happening here. Either the Halo 3 car will start early and be disqualified, or the Wii driver's steering wheel will slip out of his hands and he'll end up with his car stuck in the Halo car's windshield.

Halo 3 The Ride, The Car

We've shown you the ride—now drive the car. Planned for the Dover NASCAR race, it's encouraging to see the Halo 3 The Ride finally making its way car form. We hope to get a hands-on sometime in the future, but given the media blitz that this news will become, we hope that Bungie's latest creation is not endangered in the process. For this we can only hope...and pray.

Halo 3 + NASCAR + Target + Hype = Dover 400 Nextel Cup Race?

Week in Games: Guitar Hero Rock The Eighties Edition

Looks like some good titles coming out this week, so here's a smattering of the best ones! Guitar Hero 80's is a sure fire sale for me, but unfortunately my game budget is rather small so that's all I'll be able to afford. there's actually several other games I'd like to pick up like Persona 3 and Alien Syndrome. I'm even slightly intrigued by Escape From Bug Island despite my earlier suspicions that it will suck. Anything on here look like it will end up in your console for days on end?

Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s (PS2)
Oh my god, dude! It's like totally tubular! It's Guitar Hero 80's!

Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword (PC)
Expansion pack number two includes ten new civilizations.

NASCAR 08 (X360, PS3, PS2)
The power of NASCAR on your next gen and one last gen console.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS2)
High school and the occult. No it's not Harry Potter, it's Persona 3!

Alien Syndrome (PSP, WII)
Blast off into space and battle aliens in this action RPG.

Escape from Bug Island (WII)
Giant bugs block your escape from an island. Will you make it out alive?

Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition (PSP)
The Square Enix classic is revamped for the PSP.

Dynasty Warriors DS: Fighter's Battle (DS)
The popular and seemingly never ending series comes to the DS.

Combat Mission: Shock Force (PC)
Help restore order in Syria after a coup.

Nintendo Sponsoring NASCAR Car

Nintendo looks to expand its reach to more 8 to 80 year olds as the company is sponsoring a Wii branded NASCAR this season. Greg Biffle's Ford Fusion will sport Wii colors at the NASCAR Nextel Cup at the Glen on August 12 and the Dover 400 on September 23 reports the Sunday Hauler. If you're into NASCAR, Wii or collecting tiny toys, a diecast model of the Wii version at 1/24 scale is up for pre-order. Can it possibly get any better than driving around in an oval at high speeds with waggle white and blue? I think not!

Games of the Week: Yakuza!!!

Now that I've got some free time on my hands, I'll be able to put on my comfy PJ's, pour myself a tall glass of red wine, and beat the life out of some Japanese gangster thugs. That's in Yakuza of course. My choice for purchase of the week. Here's what's shipping this Tuesday. More »
