That's straight-up speculation. Siliconera hazarded the guess when it found the registration, and it sounds good to me, if only because it sounds better than the same old run-around (a maze).

<![CDATA[Namco Bandai Digging Into The Archives For Re-Releases]]> Got an interesting press release today from Namco Bandai. It goes a little something like this.

"Leading video games developer and publisher NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc., announced today their intent to increase its digital distribution presence."

Boring so far, right? It is! Thing is, it gets better, the company pledging to spend 2010 plumbing the depth's of their back catalogue and releasing them on the 360, PS3 and PSP.

It'll begin with Beautiful Katamari appearing on the 360's Games on Demand service in "Q1 2010", but more encouragingly, will continue with a range of PlayStation One "catalogue classics" throughout the year.

The PSN needs a lot more quality PS1 games. It's nice seeing at least one publisher publicly committing to release more games on it.

<![CDATA[First Look At Japanese Poster For Tekken Movie]]> Back in early November, Kotaku posted the first Tekken movie sales art. It's now late December, and time to post the movie's Japanese poster. Funny how that works. No, not really.

The movie is set in 2039, when fighters from around the world compete in the Iron Fist Tournament and centers around character Jin Kazama, who enters the tourney to avenge his mother's death — something he places the blame on Teken Chairman Heihachi Mishima. Jin hopes by winning the tournament he can get close enough to Mishima to kill him.

And no, the actress who plays Kill Bill's Gogo Yubari is not in this movie.

<![CDATA[New Clash of the Titans Screens Are All Greek To Me]]> Namco Bandai is drumming up support for its video game adaptation of 2010's Clash of the Titans remake, releasing a batch of new screens of the game that should be as good as anything developers Game Republic have ever done.

That means that Clash of the Titans should be as on par (or close to it) with efforts like Folklore or Genji. And given the strong source material—or at least source material based on strong source material—is interesting, Clash of the Titans the video game could be worth looking forward to.

<![CDATA[GOD EATER Lets Players Dine On Custom Bullets And Bikinis]]> From the looks of it, GOD EATER is Namco's take on Capcom's Monster Hunter. A game that looks to borrow so heavily from the MH franchise really needs to create its own identity as a PSP title.

What better way to do that than via customized bullets and customized clothes.

The "Bullet Edit" feature allows players to customize their bullets with five different "Modules" with settings like Type, Elemental, Distance, Path, etc.

There are also custom costumes, which do not affect your character's abilities, but might affect yours.

GOD EATER is out this February in Japan.

<![CDATA[Ridge Racer: Accelerated Coming To iPhone Soon]]> Namco Bandai is taking the old Ridge Racer franchise for another spin, its first in almost three years, this time on the visual powerhouse that is... Apple's iPhone? Yes, Ridge Racer: Accelerated is an iPhone game.

But at least Namco Bandai hasn't forgotten about the arcade-style racing game, with plans to release Ridge Racer: Accelerated some time this month. Further details are still forthcoming, but Famitsu has in-game screens and swears it'll be out before the end of the year for an unspecified price.

<![CDATA[Tekken 6 PSP Review: One Is the Loneliest Number]]> Tekken: Dark Resurrection was not only the best fighter to ever hit the Playstation Portable, it is still considered one of the top games to hit Sony's portable.

The arrival of Tekken 6 on the PSP could only mean great things, right?

Loved
Graphics: The PSP version of Tekken 6 is a surprisingly attractive game. The portable version does cut a few corners, for instance there's no option to turn on blur, but overall it's a sharply detailed game.

Controls: With four face buttons and two shoulder buttons and a snappy directional pad, the PSP is a perfect match for the Tekken series. Each face button controls a limb of your fighter and the heavy reliance on single direction controls for special moves makes pulling off attacks on the PSP a breeze.

Responsiveness: There's no stutter, no lag here when playing the game. Controls and the fighters are smooth and responsive, making taking Tekken 6 on the go a joy.

No Filler: The PSP version of Tekken 6 doesn't include that annoying, seemingly never ending Scenario Campaign that bloated the console versions of the game. Everything you find in this version of the game you'll want to do.

Faster Load Times: My other chief complaint about the console version has also been fixed in the portable version. The load times, especially if you pre-load the game onto a Memory Stick, are lighting fast. I experienced almost no wait while working through the single-player story lines and arcade mode of the game.

Mappable Buttons: It may seem like a minor thing, a no brainer. But it's nice that the developers allow you to map all of the buttons on your PSP to whatever controls you want. That way you can make use of the shoulder buttons or ignore them. Your choice.

Hated
Stories: While cutting the scenario campaign from the portable version of Tekken 6 was the right move, it would have been nice if the team spent some of that extra time on beefing up the character's cartoon story lines.

No Online Multiplayer: Dark Resurrection's lack of true online multiplayer was, perhaps, forgivable, but why doesn't Tekken 6 have it? Worse still, while the ability to save and share ghosts of your fighting style with other players to use as AI is still in the game, that data can no longer be uploaded or downloaded online. All ghost data, as with multiplayer matches, can only be shared via a local connection.

No Replay: It's nice to be able to check out your finishing move after playing a difficult match in Tekken, and there are plenty of them. Unfortunately, the PSP version trimmed this feature from the game for some reason.

Tekken 6 is a fantastic game, one that improves the graphics and playability of the fighting franchise for the portable. What it tragically doesn't do is push the envelope in anyway to extend the reach of multiplayer gaming for the franchise. In fact, it actually cuts down on the ways the game can deliver more lasting fun.

While the game will be a must-have for fans of the franchise, it still disappoints on that key issue.

Tekken 6 was developed and published by Namco Bandai for the Playstation Portable on Nov. 24. Retails for $39.99 USD. A download code for the game was given to us by the publisher for reviewing purposes. Played multiple arcade, story, ghost and challenge matches.

<![CDATA[Pac-Man: Championship Edition Waka Wakas The iPhone]]> Pac-Man Championship Edition, the Xbox Live Arcade remake of Namco's classic arcade title, was far better than anyone was expecting. On Xbox. How it fares now it's heading for the iPhone is anyone's guess.

I've played the original Pac-Man on iPhone and didn't really like it, for the same reason I don't really like most iPhone games: the controls sucked.

Since CE is better than Pac-Man, though, we're willing to give the iPhone port the benefit of the doubt.

Pac-Man CE should be out sometime today.

<![CDATA[The Boob Panic Button]]> You want boobs? Upcoming PSP game Queen's Blade: Spiral Chaos has boobs. You don't want others to see you want boobs? Fret not, this game has you covered. Literally.

The Namco Bandai game, out later this month, features highly suggestive cutscenes — the game is rated 17 years-old-and-up, but nudity free. If players are watching said cutscenes in more refined company, it's possible to swap out the boob-heavy scene for a much more innocuous 8-bit image by pressing "Start" and "Select" on the PSP at the same time.

Queen's Blade is originally a Lost Worlds style "combat picture book game" and has been published in Japan for the last couple of years.

Queen's Blade features only female characters, and its spin-off series Queen's Gate has showcased the likes of Iroha (Samurai Shodow), Mai Shiranui (The King of Fighters) and Dizzy (Guilty Gear). Queen's Blade has also been spun off into an anime in Japan.

<![CDATA[Dead To Rights: Retribution - Puppy Power!]]> As this gameplay clip from Dead to Rights: Retribution shows, more games need the option to sic your dog on the bad guys.

After watching this clip, I'm of the belief that games that don't include dogs need to be redesigned in order to take advantage of today's canine attack technology. Imagine how much more enjoyable playing Rock Band online would be if you coud set loose packs of wild dogs on the opposing band. I'll just leave you with that lovely image.

Oh, and don't watch the video if you are under 18.

<![CDATA[Muscle March Buffs Up WiiWare Next Year]]> Namco Bandai's incredibly bizarre Muscle March, the WiiWare game featuring posing races between buff, bikini-clad bodybuilders and bears, is coming to North American next year, believe it or not. Really, there's nothing I can add to this trailer. I'll shut up so you can watch without distraction.

<![CDATA[This Is What "Toned-Down" Looks Like In Dead To Rights]]> When I first got a look at Dead to Rights: Retribution, I had to ditch a whole plate of food lest I upchuck in front of the producer at a Namco Bandai event.

If the level of violence I witnessed back then has been "toned down" in this developer diary hosted by Character Art Manager Dan Calvert, I might still abandon all foodstuffs to save my stomach. Sure, it looks like there's less blood — and I can see what they mean when they say the "stylized" art sort of subtracts a layer of disconcerting realism — but people's necks are still getting snapped.

See for yourself:

<![CDATA[We're Up To Our Elbows In Splatterhouse Screens, Blood]]> Call me cautiously optimistic about the new Splatterhouse, despite the developer switcheroo and year-long delay for the re-imagining of the arcade and Turbografx classic. New screens from Namco Bandai keep me cautiously optimistic.

Despite some of the character design choices—that Terror Mask isn't doing anything for me and, Rick, please pull up your shorts—I've long been a fan of bloody beat 'em ups. With the right mechanics, Splatterhouse may be the kind of disposable single-player experience I'm looking for.

Since the game's not out until Q3 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Namco Bandai has plenty of time to convince me to get excited.

<![CDATA[More DLC for Tekken 6? Maybe. Would It Be Free? Definitely]]> Tekken 6's producer told PlayStation Europe his team is eyeing additional DLC for the game, and it doesn't sound like he's talking about the Cardboard Tube Samurai outfit or online modes. Whatever comes out, if anything, will be free.

Asked about plans for more downloadable content, Katsuhiro Harada, the Namco Bandai producer over Tekken 6, said, "There is a strong possibility we will. However, even if we were to do so, it would be free to the end user."

The "strong possibility" qualifier would make it seem that Harada is not talking about an online cooperative scenario mode, nor network patches, both of which are in the works. Either way, if they do roll more content it's nice to know it will be free.

<![CDATA[Tekken 6 PSP Is Out, And This Is What It Looks Like]]> The tiny handheld version of Tekken 6 is in stores and on the PlayStation Network today, and we've got a video showing you what you can expect from the tiny fighter.

It looks like Namco Bandai did as fine a job porting over Tekken 6 to the PSP as they did Soulcalibur IV. I'd run out and pick this up right away, but I've still got a great deal of Tekken 6 on the Xbox 360 to get through before I dare go smaller.

<![CDATA[Splatterhouse Gets Appropriately Splattered Shoes]]> We weren't sure if Namco Bandai was taking the new Splatterhouse game seriously until we saw the exclusive Globe International Superfly model Splatterhouse shoes.

We're big video game shoe fans here at Kotaku, though Crecente's collection is far greater than mine. Perhaps I will 1UP him with a pair of Splatterhouse Superfly high tops. I am lacking in the sneaker department at the moment, and I do like the "moody yet playful" combination of red and black used to add that Splatterhouse flair to the Superfly design. Or I might not, seeing as the product page over at Club Namco only lists them up to size 11.5, and I am a size 13. Oh well. Crecente and his baby feet win once again.
