@Instant_Awesome:
Haha, yeah I meant the home console versions obviously. I just don't think any of the cod's on the ds felt anything like their big brothers at all.
I'm still confused as to how they are ignoring the Wii for this game. With the announcement of a DS version, I'm flat out flabbergasted. Wasn't the Wii version of CoD: WaW a million+ seller?
As much as I love my DS, and has high-quality as some of the FPS games on it may be, I have never warmed up to the control scheme for FPS games on the DS. It looks good on paper, but it makes my hands cramp up pretty much instantly. I've tried playing it on a flat surface, which is a bit more comfortable, but then it's awkward to hit the shoulder buttons.
I hope RMC (GoNintendo) pulls it off and some brave publisher takes a chance.
Theres simply no good reason why the "adult" market wont take off this year on the Wii with stuff like 'Dead Rising', 'House of the Dead', 'Madworld', 'Deadly Creatures' and 'The Conduit' hitting the Wii in the next couple of months.
@excaliburps: Marketing has always stereotyped; they dont look at an audience and think "hey, there is a drought right there!" and let someone create for it, they go for the biggest and easiest money. Unfortunately, while doing so they always ignore what gamers want and in the Wii's case, they churn out shovelware under the name of "casual games", because they are obviously under the impression that casual games are easy to make and easy to sell.
Eventually, they find out it isnt so easy and that time has been put into the games that first started the hype and then the blame game begins. "Only Nintendo titles sell" are popular phrases now.
Really, its so easy to see that these people have the braincapacity of a peanut; they cannot create anything innovative even if they wanted to. All they can ever hope to be is being a bunch of wannabee's that can only do "Monkey see Monkey do". Just look at the sudden growth of MMO when WoW started dominating the world. Or when Halo came out. Or when jump and run games like Mario sold well.
I hate 'em not just for the fact they are keeping games like this from even being made, but also for dragging down the name of casual games so much casual is pretty much shovelware right now.
Goddamn, it's the GameCube fiasco all over again. The Wii isn't some fucking kiddie console. "Madworld", "No More Heroes", "Resident Evil 4", "Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles", "Red Steel" ... there's quite a few titles on there that aren't for kids.
The sales and marketing groups that passed up on this should be drowned in a vat of acid.
@Torgen got his apology faceplate but not his fixed GH3 disc: Having less zombies does not mean it's "aimed at casuals." That's the dumbest thing I've heard today. Some of the zombies are much faster now. I think it'll probably break even on difficulty.
See, this is my big problem with the Wii anyways. Its not the system, the system is fine. Its the perception it now has by the general public. Madworld looks like the riskiest thing for it, and goddammit, I hope it sells like hotcakes (even though I sadly predict it wont) just so that the Wii gets some damn recognition and taken seriously.
Well done you pinstripe marketing and sales mofos, you really show why you earn such a high salary compared to the people that _actually_ make the games.
It's a Chicken/Egg problem. If they only make kids games for the Wii, "core" gamers won't buy Wiis. If core gamers don't buy Wiis, publishers will only make kids games. Nintendo should subsidize games like this to stop the vicious cycle.
@schtum: I think as long as the money's rolling in, Nintendo sees no problem or vicious cycle, just a profit cycle. See Cammy Dunaway's letter posted earlier this week if you think Nintendo even pretends to care about core gamers anymore.
@AoE: You're really lying to yourself if you actually are trying to say that Nintendo cares nothing about the people who have always supported them when they've already put out entries in nearly every major series they've ever had, and even revived a couple that no one ever thought would come back (either Punch-Out or Sin & Punishment...though that's not really a series...but it deserves to be).
They don't market your "core" titles like Microsoft and Sony do with retarded in-your-face explosions of screenshots ever few days because they assume that gamers are smart enough to find good games on their own, which many people have, such as the person with the rather large list of upcoming titles just a few posts up from here.
@Ueziel: Hey tell yourself whatever you need to to feel happy with your Wii purchase. 15 games a "rather large list" does not make my friend.
You know the difference between the PS3/360 and the Wii when it comes to core gamers? 3-4 good hardcore gamer type games, minimum, released on each console nearly every month. The Wii gets a trickle of them, which is washed over by a torrent of shit (and I am not trying to call casual games shit, I do play quite a few of them; I am referring here specifically to shitty games). Nintendo has no quality control, as it doesn't serve them to have any. They also don't pay attention to the hardcore anymore than is absolutely necessary to keep fanboys like you on the hook. The rest of us aren't fooled however. Talk about lying to oneself! Maybe you should go back and read this story, go and read cammy dunaway's letter... but try it with fresh eyes this time. Do go into it looking to be a nintendo apologist, read it like you haven't been a fanboy for decades... I think you'll see what I mean.
And believe me, I know your pain, I'm a sega fanboy and nothing hurts me more than admitting they are a shitpile of a company these days... but that doesn't change the fact that they are any more than your not wanting to admit that nintendo really couldn't give two shits about hardcore gamers anymore (look how much bigger thier casual market is!) means that they still care about thier hardcore audience.
@AoE: There are several good, solid titles on the Wii with Nintendo responsible for many of them. We have Metroid, Zelda, Smash, Galaxy, and Warioware. 4 out of the 5 are considered AAA titles. Are you just new to Nintendo? It has always been like this. In the past, we would be lucky to get one blockbuster title from them a year. A YEAR! In the Wii's short run so far, Nintendo has tapped into all of its franchises and released as many games as they can and what's amazing is that they were all high quality. We hit this one drought of games and you're already crying foul.
What's more is that you're forgetting all of the exclusives you can get on the Wii that you can't get anywhere else: World of Goo, No More Heroes, Zach and Wiki and even Nights (I like it) all immediately spring to mind. No one has more exclusives than the Wii. Period.
I have all three systems, but I feel that the Wii is a great compliment to my other two systems simply for the fact that its line-up is way more diverse than what my 360 or PS3 can offer on its own.
Companies will continue to license these shovelware games that are only 13% of the market, as opposed to the typical 20%, yet they won't take a chance on something that might actually appeal to the core demographic of the competing consoles?
@Floyd Bailey: Obviously that's why they refused to green-light it. The only people who own Wiis enjoy playing with refuse, as evidenced by the majority of games available for it. People who own Wiis and enjoy good games? The demographic simply doesn't exist.
Dan and Erik gave me my break into the gaming industry. They've built a wonderful family here at N-Space. Like any family, they'll get through it. But its a sad day.

I have a DS and as far as I can tell, it is real. You never can tell, though... plastic surgeons do some incredible work these days.

Not to say it's unwarranted. But I mean how much would it take to make this game happen? I don't think it has the budget of say a 360 game right?
Not sure who to blame here, the marketing people or for the gamers who perpetuated this stereotype...
