I'd really like to see Infinity Ward break away from the Call of Duty brand. This franchise is going to be milked to kingdom come, and it's a shame they have to share it with other sub-par development teams.
@ThisCharmingMan: I agree, but at least this gives Infinity Ward, and the other 2 sub-par development teams 3 years to make each version rather than 2 years.
@ThisCharmingMan: I'm not sure why they would do that...I mean I could see them being the team that comes in during crunch time and helps out, but those kind of deals don't last very long because as soon as you're done crunching on COD:WAW2 you immediately go back into crunching on COD:MW3...most employees don't want to crunch all the time and will leave the company relatively quickly.
@RaginKaGin21: Well as this becomes more and more of the end-all-be-all franchise for first person shooters, they might find it quite fitting to simply have a team focus on keeping quality high. Maybe they'll be handing down more specific jobs to each team? I know very little in terms of game design, mind you, but I just can't think that Activision would further put the franchise in jeopardy by having three different teams work on different games within a three year cycle. Then again, it IS Activision, so time will surely tell....
Frankly, I hope it's not another 'main' COD developer so that IW and Treyarch can take 3 years instead of 2.
My reasoning is that the only worthwhile COD games are the IW ones. Treyarch's are mere filler, at best.
Sure, I played WaW and enjoyed it. But it was nowhere near the level of enjoyment of MW or even the first two COD games. Fact is, Treyarch just isn't as good as IW as a dev.
So, for me, it would mean instead of having a good COD every two years, it would now be every three years.
My best guess, though, is that this new studio is going to focus on that new online thing Activision's been talking about. Whether it's a MMO or not, this studio's purpose will most likely boil down to finding new ways to rip off gamers.
@Fieldy: What are you talking about? WAW was the same game as MW (same engine), except the era/guns were different and the maps were bigger/better (arguably). COD 4's campaign was superior, however, treyarch has never made a good one IMO. No one continues to play COD games for campaigns, though WAW did have those fun challenges, especially for coop.
I'm with you though, I really hope there isn't another main developer, we have enough freaking COD games as it is. THey can still add dlc to WAW and MW2.
@GtheMVP99: " No one continues to play COD games for campaigns "
I do. I still have COD 4 installed and I haven't sunk more than a dozen hours into the multiplayer. I kept it installed because I often felt like replaying the campaign.
I don't do that often. Didn't do it with WaW ormost other FPS.
I do it with COD 4 and am now doing with with MW2.
I prefer single-player over online gaming. I don't play MMOs and I'll rarely play any online shooter for more than a month before moving on to something else.
It can't be any fun to be Infinity Ward, or even Treyarch, when you're being forced to compete with your own franchise. Gamers didn't snatch up CoD:MW2 because it was the next CoD game. They snatched it up because they knew it would be exactly what they wanted in a multiplayer experience. So why does Activision continue this mad rush to make it Call of Duty Hero 8: Rocks Wars of the 80's? I have no desire to pick up another CoD, even in the next year, because I am so satisfied with this iteration. I'm sure I'm not alone. You can get away with the sequel business much easier with casual, new gamers, than you can with an established, niche demographic like the CoD fanbase.
sooo with all these posts about call of duty, and the jabs at the pc gamers, you forgot to report 1 really important thing. because of the p2p nature of the shitty iwnet people have figured out how to send trojans through the game......GG IW

I can't help but get the feeling that CoD is beginning to run it's course. I don't really have many complaints about MW2 as it is a pretty good game but i really think theres only so much of the same formula the collective will take before they move on.
@ILoveBurritos: Yeah i suppose how they moved on from Halo. Since Halo 3 there hasn't been much hype for it and it seems the spotlight has moved onto CoD. I just hope it moves once again because i don' want to see 1 series of slightly above average games take over the industry.
Woah... I was just sitting there, yeah? And I had this really weird dream.. that in the future the Call of Duty games were just like the Guitar Hero games, with like 5 released every year... but at least that was just a day-dream... I hope.
But anyway, what I find ironic was that everybody was saying "Halo is milked" back in the day when there was only Halo 1, Halo 2 and Halo 3. Ah well, as long as they are good games, I guess I can't knock them. Yet.
@AncientUnknown1: Look at the decline of quality that came from a constant stream of Guitar Hero sequels and spinoffs. A decline in quality that Activision was directly responsible for.
Is it really that hard to imagine the same thing happening to Call of Duty?
@Maddogdw: To be fair, Battlefield came out really early in the consoles lifespans. Nowadays, PS3 has +25 million shipped and the 360 has +30 million shipped. And all the developers know a lot more on developing for each console.
Good! The faster Kotick can bring himself down, the better. It's as if he didn't watch one single action flick in the '80s-'90s. I predict this things going down in three years.

lol, you're definitely the exception to the rule then :)
COD 4 SP was pretty damn epic though! I find the new one trumps it many times over in the action dept, just wish the story was more cohesive.

IW: We make modernized CoD games
Whoever: We make space marine CoD games.
All three: Together we are the holy trinity.

Seriously, what do you guys want? Less games? No more Call of Duty's? Because clearly gamers are saying the exact opposites with their wallets.
